  1. What do we think the price will be this time?
  2. Thanks for the info. I keep thinking about pulling the trigger on a HS re-re for my son (rather than letting him use mine, so we'd both we able to run cars). And then the Avante is being re-released this year, and I'm like "that would be cool for me, and he could use my old HS!"
  3. This is probably where I'm going to end up at. I have been seeing "Early May" turn into "Mid May" and then "Late May" and now "Early June" on various online shops as far as when they will be restocked. It's funny, when I started looking back in February, there was plenty of places here in the US, even Amazon, that had kits in stock, I just wasn't in a rush and hadn't decided. Then things started shutting down, and apparently a lot of people rediscovered their love of RC.
  4. When I started looking into a new re-re to get my kid, I thought RCMart was amazing - low prices and great stock. Then I saw the shipping charge. I mean, they seem to be a great store for those who are in their area, but I can't do their shipping here in the states.
  5. I don't have an easy way to post a spreadsheet but that's the million-dollar question, and maybe needs its own thread. I've got a Hot Shot from when I was a kid that I intend on restoring, but that's not going to be my regular/main car. I'm kicking around one or two of the following: Terra Scorcher, Hot Shot, Hornet, DT-03, with a few other options in the mix.. My budget is either going to be one car if it's pricey, or two. I will post a thread tomorrow with some more info, because I've reached the point where I could really use other eyeballs to shoot down or reinforce my views, and tell me whether I've let nostalgia cloud my judgement (a real possibility). I've probably read about 75-100 threads from start-to-finish on here, not mention looking at dozens of entries on TamiyaBase, and I've got some analysis paralysis going on. And that's not getting into trying to find a place here in the US to order from at a decent price.
  6. I’m looking through about half a dozen options for a new/re-re to build with my son and get back into RC, and I’ve spent the last hour looking through about half the hobby shops on the Internet it feels like, trying to find something in stock for a decent price. Edit: here in the US
  7. Hot Shot and Frog. I loved he little technical things about them, and the stance and the colors on the HS was just awesome. Iconic, looking back on it.
  8. Also @FoxShot If you want get lost in nostalgia for a few hours, the Internet Archive has many RC items in its archives, including a lot of magazines going back to the 80s and earlier. Some books may require a free account to borrow (like a library) but much of the older stuff doesn’t. Just scroll through here https://archive.org/search.php?query=radio+control&and[]=mediatype%3A"texts"&page=4 This is a how-to guide from 1990 (requires free account to read) https://archive.org/details/110scaleelectric0000gree Lots of magazines RC Car Action 1989 RC Car Action 1990 1988 1987 1986 and so on
  9. 47 with a couple of younger kids, including an 8-year-old son who I was easing into RC with a couple of cheap and small RTRs, but with the recent virus stuff and having him at home for the rest of the school year, I am now pondering having him jump in the deep end with a new Tamiya kit. I had a Hot Shot in the mid-80s, took me almost a year of a paper route, and birthday and Christmas money to get. Stopped when I was in high school (lack of time and lack of nearby RC fans). About 15-20 years ago, I went on a spree on eBay and picked up a couple of wrecked/incomplete Hot Shots, a Super Hotshot, a bunch of parts, a Boomerang in need of a restoration, then changed jobs just as I got everything, and so that stuff all went back into storage. Hopefully going to pull everything out next weekend, and take stock of what I have and what I need to get my original Hot Shot up and running, as well as the Boomerang, and then maybe one of the other Hot Shots (the Super is tempting, but could be expensive). My goal is to take my original Hot Shot and take it back to a fully stock setup, minus the mechanical speed control *shudders*, and fix up/hop up one of the other Hot Shots to be a fun little park runner for me. I'm not too keen on my son taking the controls of my older RC vehicles just yet, so I'm looking at a handful of cars that would be suitable for our situation (plenty of pavement, some dirt/mulch, lots of fairly short grass) and that he could grow with. I'll start a separate thread for that, since I've narrowed it down to a few kits that I have not run, nor have I seen in action.
