So, here's a little back story if you wish to hear it. I have a son who is nearing 1 and a half years old and I bought him some cheap crap RC from Ebay to smash around the house with and get him handling something that isn't the Xbox controller. It lit my bulb. It wasn't long before I was rummaging around in the attic for my old Kyosho nitro. The ****** still runs, can you believe it?! After all these years! I wound up shattering a gear in the rear differential and I'm still waiting on that part to fix it (I've pretty much given up on it arriving). Yes, I had a look around online and found the TT-02B....I wanted the Plasma Edge 2 and went through a bunch of stuff that I won't bore you with. But I took it, and went for the Neo Scorcher. Here's a build diary...not that you haven't seen this before.

Have you ordered any hop ups - think you said you were gonna grab some shiny blue bits
bearings from RC Bearings

I've got some on my watch list. I've not succumbed to clicking the button yet.

Thanks
it’s mainly about taking your time.
rebuilding the cars I had in my childhood has been fantastic (I had to buy these again as I had no money when younger and traded and only bought 2nd hand)
new builds just work through with no rush
the chassis build is the simple bit - putting some time and thought into the shell and then the decal placement is the bit that you should take as much time as possible. Even with some of mine I’ll be half way through and which id masked something else off or cut something differently
whats your project?
JJ
Thanks!
I've got a Plasma Edge II coming and it's due in 12 days. I've had to pre-order it as stocks are low right now in many models. As you may well know. I just bit the bullet and ordered, instead of emailing shops here, there and everywhere to see when they're expecting stock. I'm playing the waiting game now, yet eager to start building >.<

Incredible!
I've just taken a stroll through this thread and "Oh my days"....12 days to go for my first project in 20 years and I can't wait. Your stuff looks beautiful!

Both tamico and modelsport seem to be expecting stock next week
JJ
Thanks!
I have actually already ordered the gun metal edition Plasma Edge 2 from Wonderland models. It's due in just over two weeks. Can't wait!

Great choice, cheap, robust and reliable.
I’m pretty sure you can bind 2 r/x to this model as well,
It certainly feels cheap.. But, as long as it get me bashing about for now.. I'm happy...who knows where this leads - _- ...

Have you had a look to see if you can get the parts?
I'd say it's worth having a look. Nothing wrong with a bit of window shopping to see how much it will cost you.
I've just started refurbishing my old nitro and I'm sort of regretting it. The parts I need are coming from Madrid, as it's the only place I could find them. They are taking forever to get here due to the pandemic (I'm guessing).
If you think it would be worth restoring then I'd say go for it, if parts are available.

I have a TT02b chassis with an MS shell I could sell you but it’s already made

I've been looking at cars online..ebay etc...But, I do actually want to have a new kit to build. It's half of the fun, and It will feel like my car. If that makes any sense.

TT cars were designed as road cars but them adapted it with different suspension arms etc to put buggy bodies on them, they did the same thing previously with the TL-01 chassis.
TT-02 road chassis
TT-02B, same basic chassis but longer arms and shocks etc
Yes! These look amazing. That was my original thoughts. Because the TT-02B is out of stock, literally, everywhere in the uk. I was thinking of buying a TT-02 and sourcing parts to convert it. But, it will cost much, much more. So I'm going to sit tight for now. I'm waiting on a part to fix my nitro, so I've been tinkering and cleaning that up at the moment. Just ordered some new radio gear for the Plasma Edge II, when i'm finally able to get get it. The shop i'm in touch with are stating mid June now. I'm guessing stock is difficult at the moment due to the pandemic.
I've been picking bit and bobs for parts for the kit so far. Bearings, and aluminium prop shaft, high speed gear set etc, ready for the build when I can get the kit.

DT is a 2WD buggy, TT are on road or drift, apart from the TT-02B which is a buggy.
DT-01 https://tamiyabase.com/chassis/64-dt-01
DT-02 https://tamiyabase.com/chassis/104-dt-02
DT-03 https://tamiyabase.com/chassis/149-dt-03
TT-02 https://tamiyabase.com/chassis/145-tt-02
Note the chassis variants tab. OP has mentioned the Plasma Edge, which is a 4WD buggy on the DF-02 chassis https://tamiyabase.com/tamiya-models/58399
Sorry, I'm referring to the Plasma Edge II...Not the original kit, which makes the TT-02B. Sorry, if that confused things.

Harlan and wheel spin models seem to be getting neos in the next few days

Ok...This is really tempting. I'm just stuck on the Plasma Edge. I know it's the exact same chassis, I just can't find find a plasma edge body shell anywhere. That and I just love those yellow wheels. I may yet bite though...I don't know if I can hold out until mid June for The Plasma Edge to come into stock.

He's also got a listing for touring car shells.
Ooooooh....You people are full of temptation. I'm itching to get building!

Thanks folks. I've actually bit the bullet and gone for a trigger and wheel controller to get me moving. Shouldn't take too long to get used to.

Where abouts are you?
tamico normally have a lot more stock
try them as it’s only normally £10 postage

I'm in the UK. Thanks I've taken a look. No TT02B's in stock. I'm going to sit tight and await an email from the model shop.
Thanks everyone...I've taken a look at the unboxed kits. Seem like an interesting idea that I may persue.

Hugely insightful, thank you.
I did a bit of pricing up and yes, it's looking expensive. I'm going to sit it out as I have a shop that's going to hold me a Plasma Edge when they are in stock.
I think I'll pass on the Yaris for now, as I would like a new transmitter and receiver for the new kit. I can also start looking a pre buying some hop ups
Thanks for the reply. It's much appreciated.

Hey all. I am looking for a new transmitter and receiver as I'm getting back into the RC game. I prefer using sticks over trigger and wheel.
I recently found the Microzone Mc6a and figured it's a decent price and looks neat. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them in a Tamiya car kit.
The description states it can be used for Planes, Cars, Boats and all.
Thanks,

Hey Club Folks,
I'm Damien and I've been lurking here the past few weeks enjoying your builds and chats. I recently bought my son a really dirt cheap crappy RC Car from Ebay. He's only 1 and a half, so I thought I'd get him something to be amazed by as it zips around the rooms during lockdown and also give him something to, literally, bash about. Well, guess what? Yep...it set me off again at 36 years old. So, I went for a forage in the attic and dusted off my old Kyosho nitro, cleaned her up a bit and went for a spin only to shatter the rear diff. It's now sat in pieces on my desk awaiting parts. And yes, I am now really kicking myself for selling my old 97' Monte Carlo GT4 Celica :'(
So, I've been looking at the TT02B chassis and it has me sold on wanting one. 4WD, offroad, lots of parts and hop up options. Which means plenty of tinkering. Can I find one in any store throughout the UK. No!...****...I'm told that the nearest restock is the end of May for the Neo Scorcher (Which is a **** fine looking body shell) or the 2nd week in June for a Plasma Edge 2 (This one I would really like). However, I am wondering about making a conversion from a TT02 rally car (Toyota Yaris WRC) to a TT02B. Is this possible? From what I have read, it looks like only the shock/damper parts are the only difference. Is this correct?
Is the tub and all the internals the same in both versions of this chassis other than the damper system? Maybe someone with a bit of experience in modern Tamiya can inform me. I'm eager to get building.
Thank you for reading! Hope you are all staying safe out there.

Green Tokyo's Neo Scorcher Build
in The Builds
Posted
I've ordered the aluminium prop shaft (54501) and the aluminium prop joints (54502). Unfortunately I am still waiting on the joints being delivered...but, no fuss. I will press ahead and assemble as far as nothing getting too locked down or buried. To save unscrewing everything to swap out parts. I haven't screwed down the casings over the diff gears because of this, and made notes in the manual to remind me to do it. Fingers crossed the prop joints arrive tomorrow.
Moved on to assembling the differential gears.
...and just dropped them into position on the chassis.
...for now, that's as far as I wish to go until the prop joints arrive. I'll press ahead to step 20 in the manual and prep the dampers, so they're ready for installation when the time comes.
