  1. I'd recommend you look for someone that has something from the Hotshot family for sale (Hotshot, Hotshot II, Super Hotshot). It's a big departure from the kits you already own; they're really like nothing else you find nowadays. Spare bodies and parts are still around, so that's a plus. They can also take a medium beating without complaint for the most part. I see ppl put in crazy brushless combos in them without (much) issue. Here's my SHS (modified, obviously), which in my humble opinion looks great even without the body. It gives off this "terminator endoskeleton" look:
  2. Thanks @Re-Bugged, I just impluse-bought another M06 kit because of this thread lol. Just a chassis kit; no body yet (can't decide) This is a big milestone for me: First duplicate kit If anything it's a testiment to how enticing this thread is!
  3. The dampers work just as well upside down, and they are mounted by some people that way specifically to help prevent excessive shock fluid leakage. Drawbacks? Well they're not as realistic mounted upside down, and technically the setup increases un-sprung weight, which is supposed to negatively impact suspension effectiveness, but it's hardly noticeable on the SRB, because it handles so badly to begin with.
  4. Please do NOT use loctite for screws that go into plastic! There have been several posts on here specifically warning against this, as loctite eventually breaks down plastic and makes it form cracks around the screw hole.
  5. I hear you need to be a fluffer for a certain number of years before you can qualify as an actor. Is it true?
  6. Isn't this a decidedly un-RC topic? Unless someone turns out to be a hobbyshop owner lol. That being said, I'm currently doing something that can't be described in less than 50 words, but for the sake of brevity, let's just call my profession "strategy advisor".
  7. Look up seller ewippler on eBay. He sometimes puts up an MF01X rolling chassis NIP for sale. Shipping might be a little steep if you're not in the US though.
  8. Good Lord! This one comes with an ESC as well! I stand corrected Just so you don't think I'm insane (.. or a knob lol), I was joking the whole time buddy
  9. But the YR label is nice and shiny. Also they give you wires, so you have to give them props for at least attempting a value-add. The wires are even different colors.
  10. Welcome back @Wetman, I took a break from RC myself over the past year or so, but in the last 6 months I've picked up at least as many kits, so it's safe to say I won't be going anywhere soon lol. Currently working on a TB EVO7, and I've had a TFE 2021 arrive 3 days ago, and there's a TC01 on the way. I just realized something: I've only driven 4 of my now 24 kits, even though many of them are built to the point of being ready to run, with electronics and all. Is that odd?
  11. When I restarted this hobby 2 years ago I felt I was a perfectionist, but I quickly discovered that seeking perfection would mean I'd never finish any builds. In fact most of my builds still aren't finished, probably for that reason. But you quickly realize that if you constantly seek perfection, it eventually sucks the enjoyment right out of everything. I've toned down my expectations nowadays, and I've been able to finish more of my kits, and also enjoy myself more while doing so. Am I making any sense whatsoever? On a separate and unrelated note, it's so nice to see several newcomers to the forum these past few days. Welcome (or welcome back?) all!
  12. Hey @Mad Ax! We found one!!! Welcome, Active TamiyaClub member but non-Tamiya owner! I was hoping you'd eventually show up and prove me wrong lol. Edit: Ok so you do plan to get a Tamiya, so I'm not 100% wrong. But still... Just so you're in on the joke @Albert Attaboy: I'm referring to my own "How many RCs do you own" thread that was started a couple weeks back where I suggested that nobody who doesn't have a Tamiya at all would be an active member of TC.
  13. In approximate order of acquisition (my memory fails me often), all NIB except where indicated otherwise: Lunch Box Black Edition TT02B Plasma Edge II TT02S DF03 Dark Impact M07 M08 XV01LDS M02 Porsche Boxster M06 TB04R MF01X Super Hotshot Blitzer Beetle Egress Sand Scorcher Fire Dragon TB EVO 7 Ferrari F40 (Group C) - Pre-owned DF01 Top Force Evo 2021 TC01 (in transit) The Avante and VQS are both calling out to me, but I'm resisting........ !
  14. Out of curiosity... Why not get a modern Sport Tuned? From what I hear they're a little bit better than the black can ones. Not that expensive either.
  15. Yes, they are made of clear polycarbonate plastic; Lexan is a brand name for this material, but it's the same stuff. As far as I know, most of us try to do our best to protect and/or reinforce bodies with backing tape to avoid tears/cracks. Once they happen, there's really not much you can do to fix it cleanly.
  16. It seems like there's a challenge with maintaining the thickness of lexan when it curves inwards, like it does on the Alfa body. I have a Tamiya Boxster M-chassis body that I cut a while back, and that was VERY thin in some places as well. My blade went right through while I was scoring it. It was thicker near the top of the wheel arch area though.
  17. Very interesting take on the Plasma Edge II. You're right, most of the TT02B's I see have very nicely done Neo Scorcher bodies, but very few stray from box-art when it comes to the Plasma Edge II, me included lol. One thing though: where'd the nose go? It was there when you started. Or are you going for an "Ice Sphinx" look?
  18. I used my soldering iron (which I bought specifically for RC) to "finish the job" on one of my solar-powered lawn lights. It was DOA, so I cracked it open and found a loose wire that wasn't connected to the pcb. As for using RC-specific things like parts, springs, o-rings etc., I haven't yet had the opportunity, but I probably could at some point if the darn maintenance team at my residential compound wasn't so efficient. They keep FIXING everything before I get the chance to try!
  19. The Scorcher handles very badly on anything except beach sand, and even then it's not FANTASTIC. Give it any sort of grippy surface and it'll spend more time on its roof, which is very bad news for those who have spent time on the body to make it look just right. As for Avante vs. Super Avante, I'd say if you intend to use it at all (i.e. not a shelf queen), then the Super Avante is your best bet. It's apparently quite rugged and promises pretty decent handling. That being said, while I have tried the Sand Scorcher, I don't have either of the Avantes, so consider my advice couch-based in that area.
  20. I have the opposite problem (parts genies?); I order and re-order parts because I forgot I already had them, leaving me with many 'unplanned' spares. I wish I could just send you a couple hex's and pins, but shipping them would be expensive to say the least.
  21. Fantastic work as usual, but to be honest I'm not feeling the 'stance' (ride height), or the all black wheels. Something about those two things is keeping it from being perfect, in my humble and mostly irrelevent opion at least
  22. I have a couple of family-less weekends coming up at the end of this month, so I will most likely try to tackle it then. I'm still not very good at painting bodies, so don't expect wonders lol.
  23. Work continues on the youngest member of TB royalty:
  24. Wait... You mentioned that this started life as a TA01. If you'll be replacing the chassis plates, and the gearboxes, and DF01 has nothing else in common with a TA01.... Am I missing something? It sounds like you will eventually end up with a DF01 that is made completely from scratch. Right?
