  1. It could be the grass. I have not run it long enough on pavement to know for sure. I will test it out tonight or tomorrow. The slash is so much bigger with much larger tires so you are definitely right that it should handle grass better. My expectations could be too high.
  2. Thank you for the advice. Checked that the pinion spacing and it was correct for the 15t I had in. I was able to spin the wheels with ease and all wheels moved. While I had it out, I changed to the 13t and changed the spacers accordingly. Put it back together and ran great for a while and motor seemed cooler but it shut off after maybe 7-10 minutes. I think it is the ESC thermal shutoff? Is the issue just not having any air in that little box where everything is? It is not that hot here so I don’t think that is adding to it. Bearings are a good idea, I will give that a shot. Going to hold off on the brushless until I can get it to run more reliably. Any other ideas? I’m thinking I could try with the ESC out and the body off and see if air flow stops it from shutting off. Anyway, thank you again. I’m definitely understanding things a little better now.
  3. I built the hotshot with my son a couple weeks ago and enjoyed the build immensely. It ran great and I was surprised at how quick it was when running in the back yard on the grass. The motor would stop occasionally and the motor would be really hot and then one day the motor was smoking and was never the same. I read a bit and realized that you need to watch your motor temps. Lesson learned. Bought a tamiya torque tuned motor which I thought would be a small step up. It is, it is a bit quicker but the ESC keeps cutting out and the motor gets really hot after maybe 5 minutes. Meanwhile, I bought a used Traxxas slash 4x4 brushless and it just runs forever with no issue. My question is, can I get a low end brushless motor, I’m thinking sensored 13t and drop down to the 13T pinion and keep using the stock ESC? Would this still give me the current speed but eliminate the overheating? Any other suggestions on getting this to a point where we can run it for 30 minutes without issue? Any suggestions on a budget motor? Thanks all, I’ve learned a lot reading your posts already.
