  1. I’m lucky enough to be building one of these, and think it could really do with wing mirrors per the actual race car and the box art…. What other kits have wing mirrors which I could use and which might work well? I’ve got a Mercedes gtr which has high mounted mirrors - they could work, but not “quite” the right shape.

Is anyone able to suggest something?

    Many thanks!

My Dad has collectibles insurance for his Comic Books. Pays around £350 a year for £100k of cover. I could ask him for the companies name?

While I’m not quite at the 100k level I’m certainly in for a very substantial amount (!) -  that’d be great if you don’t mind (probably Hiscox or someone?)

  3. Yeah. Some of the vintage kits are tricky to replace though. I love the box art (can I claim for trashed boxes after some scum burglar tears through them looking for hidden rolexes (which don’t exist!)).

Not sure I can claim the time back though(!). I spend around 80 hours a kit - As I am an ocd lunatic.

Will see if anyone else has any feedback. And will then report back after speaking with my insurer in case of any interest.

  4. Hi All,

Has anyone with a sizeable RC collection insured their cars as separate items?

I’m in the UK and have household contents insurance which would cover the cost of my collection, and each car is well below the individual item limit. I have receipts for most of it, as much of my collection comprises reres - so think it should be OK?

I have around… er… a hundred cars (😳 er…. fck) , plus motors and electrics etc, and before I phone my insurance company to check, does anyone have any experience in the UK insurance market with this? Is it as simple as: they are individual items, and as long as each is below the individual item threshold, and as long as the aggregate is within the overall policy amount, it’s all good?

    Many thanks!

  5. Ha. Very good! What colour this tome?

Incidentally I use those black metal savox low profile servos (SC-1251MG) - but find the cables far too short. I’ve been able to solder a replacement black servo cable (from Core RC (part of Schumacher I think) in a half-almost-acceptable/bit-messy fashion - although find they do “jitter” a bit.

    Any tips on that?!

  6. …. And while I’ve got a fellow Kyosho enthusiast - I absolutely love the Javelin - and I love the orange  - but having built mine, am really not sure whether to use the decals. Any pics your end

    ah, life’s first world problems…

  7. Awesome. Thank you. I have all of the Legendary Series. :ph34r:Built half of them. Had really bad luck/skill failure with the Fantom shell though. I painted the driver and then realised the shell was too thin and had split/cracked in the corners of the cockpit from the factory (definitely not my fault!). Bought a second shell, and messed up the rear post holes (they seemed bang on when I put the holes in - but clearly that one is on me!) and the rear tyres rub the shell…. So am on to shell number 3…. And I have the DEXT to do. Am hating myself! It’s my nemesis.

I have a hanging on rider in the build queue too, and really fancy a mini z - but for the money, find it tricky to justify over a 1/10 kit!

  8. Fabulous mate. I haven't managed to get tyre writing down yet. I have some oil based white sharpies - not managed to get the nack for that yet. Will have to practice a bit more I think!

  9. I watched a really useful you tube video ages ago about how to do drivers heads - mostly the eyes. I can’t get the same detail as you can achieve, but getting my head round the fact that irises are actually partially obscured by eyelids - and hence you should paint part of a larger circle than you can actually see (even partially square….) gives a much better result than the wide eyed scared look where you can see a round iris!

Amazing work at your end. I haven't got a wild willy in my collection yet and can you’re a bit of a fan!

  10. Amazing work mate!

I noticed your Avante on a shelf in one of the pics. I’ve just finished one - apart from the driver. I find the drivers put me off builds - as I have to do as good a job as I can - and while I’m not at the shading/highlighting level - I do try to do a decent job. Any tips - I am thinking about an airbrush set up, as hate brush strokes - and have experimented with thinning and using Tamiya paint delayer. Not sure how to mask it is I were to spray the driver otherwise.

For comedy - as I was just showing someone - I refurbed my own personal Terrascorcher from when I was a kid in the late 80s - the before, and then after I’d stripped it and repainted (now I realise he had a racing balaclava on!!!).

  11. I’m only slightly off the darkness of the wheels - so probably went too mad with ps6…. It is an egg yolk yellow though.

Will see if I can be brave enough to use a different colour for the other shells!

  12. Thanks! Yours are on another level. I have a psychological block about doing anything other than box art. I lack all imagination!

spent hours on the driver, and you can hardly see him!

  13. Ah thank you. I got worried about uneven coverage and went mostly Tamiya ps6 and then backed with camel (which is almost an orange in colour, and didn’t seem to do much!). I have a second car and a spare shell as needed some decals and there weren’t any available other than with the shell when I ordered them (was a while ago now!). Great looking buggies.
