  1. what are these "stickers" you are referring to?? it anything those smudges are personalized touches to the paint job to make it unique. in all honestly, i really didnt examine the masking lines i did after i removed the masking tape. the smudges are more unintentional paint transfer as my fingers made contact with the black painted area when i put the red paint on. i should've let it dry for longer. im not the biggest fan of stickers unless they are to make it look like factory parts ie lights, window seals ETC. one side is fairly nice barring some minor paint bleeds on the black/red line the other has more unique marks as i held the body with my left hand. alot of this was avoidable with more care but i cant do much about that now. the rush you get when you see progress on the paint job is very deceptive...
  2. So my paint job on the slash wasn't perfect, I forgot to closely inspect for paint bleeds and smudges. It's not terribly visible so I can live with it. There were some areas the red wasn't thick enough and the silver backing came through a bit. I just took off the protective film to see these areas, was hoping the smudges were on the protective film, nope. Can't do anything about the minor black smudges but the silver backing was dealt with by lightly spraying the exterior of the shell. The thing will likely roll a bit in the future so some minor external touch ups will happen eventually. I need to cut 4 washers from juice box and reinforce it before running the she'll. I managed to do a 2.5x front flip with slash in the park road. Full speed at bump gave the she'll and chassis a test. No serious damage. I really like how it's fairly robust, I don't stress over smashing it too much and the rolling thing is part of the package. there was a minor jouge where the curved road edge and sidewall sent it onto the grass instead of stopping it. It's bound to take some damage to front bumper so it's nothing to lose sleep over.
  3. I just put the 2nd layer of ps 31 on the slash body windows. Might go for a 3rd layer but I want the black window lines to still shoe fairly well . Probably going to tale the slash and OG body for a run today. The new body is far from ready to use ATM. I need to finish the tint and reinforce the body first.
  4. nah, i think it stands for more chassis. many chassis in that tense/phrase is bad inglish. its only makes more sense if it stands for more chassis.
  5. I don't deny that it would be an extra bonding experience. He is a fairly busy person with his occupation so free time isn't the easiest to come by. He does have more current financial situations to take into aspect. His pay is pretty good but things like recent house purchase do divert attention a fair bit. It seems he is content driving my current slash for the time being. should it bite him harder, i will help him into the addiction. I do wonder how much more different a 4x4 slash handles but alas I went 2wd and am happy with that. The slash might be faster the TD or Manta Ray but I don't mind. The TD is 4wd so I can then handle areas the 2wd can't. I'm sure 3 RC kits will occupy more space than I intent to allocate so I need to be more careful of future?? Kits size.
  6. please delete, tablet super annoying...
  7. Unfortunately that's not in my books, I got proline trenchers coming in relatively soon and a battery ordered. A LCG tray is somewhere in the medium term future for the slash but I'm just content having fun with its stock stuff. I had a full metal gear steering servo for it but it's now earmarked for the TD. If there is anything I will spend my acorns on, it would be a vintage Manta chassis or a TA01/TA02 should I find the right deal. I want my Depth charge err Manta Ray but nothing is reasonable these days... The slash is good but it's size makes sto5age space interesting... We did have a true shelf queen back in the day, a sprint dirt racer RC car. It didn't have a radio and back then I just thought the weight and sproingy metal stick was just for fun. Now I know it had something to do with a RC transmitter. It was a yellow body with silver or grey huge deck wing on top and one on the front end. I didnt like it's huge spoiler back in the day, still don't but it's a RC regret I just realised I might have. It was a hard body and I'm sure my mom tossed or gave it away long ago. I hope she gave it to an RC fan who put it to use... I'm 95% sure its gone as I remember seeing it stored away long ago then remembering that we got rid of it later on. It could've made for an interesting (butt fugly IMO) restoration project these days.
  8. So I had to modify my Traxxas battery order to the flat 8,4v 4200MAH, still happy with it as the 5000mah were not in stock. Managed to put 2 paint layers on the body before heading to work. Got back now and put another layer, still need 2-3 more for good coverage before silver backing goes on. The window lines need more attention when silver is done. the painting looks well enough to start posting it now. i think i have an unhealthy obsession with the Tamiya PS paint 88919 metallic wine red.... also 2 tone issues. the FD3S will be PS black and no other color aside from smoke. so its mostly finished painting now. just used a small paint brush(polycarb cleaner) and toothpick to clean up some paint bleed. i just need to put some smoke on the windows. a trophy will go to the first person who guesses the theme of the truck paint job. im gonna do the smoke tint on the windows another day. the window design didnt make sense on the car it came on back in the day either. the protective film is still on the outer body until i get the ps-31 on it.
  9. so my 5000MAH battery is off the table, hard to find stock of that one, ive asked the the LHS to check stock with the 50008.4V hump battery and then look at 4200MAH flat if no 5000MAH are available. getting a 3000 or 3300MAH battery is far from ideal as its the same or slightly bigger capacity than current 3000MAh one in the slash... its an ok one if i need any sort of back up one the cigarette lighter port battery charger i have only accepts the special ESC variant... i took off the masking on the main body, cleared the end overspray and saw the windows have slight overspray due to too many masking layers to fine tune it. i forgot to tamp down the tape before putting the color but its something a small paint brush and wood toothpick can fix later on. i put on the first later of 2nd color on main body and have time for a 2nd before i need to head out for a while.
  10. I took the time to try and hand draw the window pattern on the new slash shell. One looked great the other hand drawn one had slightly different curves. I cut the window masking and put it on the she'll. The gaps and curves didnt match so I chose the nicer one and placed 3 long strips of masking tape. I drew the pattern with pencil and realised the outer shell I put it on matches the inner area I need it on. I cut and put the masking tape one after removing the one supplied with the she'll and fine tuned the gaps. Was running low on masking tape in general so 2 note pad ply papers layers and some tape to hold them on the inner she'll seemed to go good. Just put the girst thin layer of black on the shell and waiting 15 min so I can continue painting it fit 3 more coats. When the black is done all the masking tape and paper ply covers can be removed. I forgot how long it could take to mask and prepare the she'll for painting and I almost shot the black paint without masking the areas for the other color LOL. EDIT: so i finally got the first color ie black painted on the RC body to a sufficiently low level of light getting through it. took 7-8 light layers and 2hrs to do all that as some places were still looked like TV static. there are still some minor static areas but the overall coverage is dark enough. id say tommorow but its already 3am here so after i get some sleep and wake up i will do the other main color and then will just need to put smoke on the windows. it should effectively be done painting on friday PS-31 or not. id love to post pics but the paint scheme is a unique one and why tease with a few preliminary pics that might give away the theme?? aw shoot one of my tape lines came off the body surface and paint bleed got in there but polycarbonate cleaner will do the trick. i also ordered a 5000mah Traxxas flat battery 2960x for my slash from LHS. for an extra 2 dollars i can get a 4200 MAH flat battery with that stupid connector on amazon or save $2 and get a 5000MAH battery delivered to the LHS. both have that stupid connector plug but thats fine with me, i dont feel like soldering the battery wires and the 3000MAH battery doesnt last too long if its being used fairly aggressively and still having a good walk in the park.
  11. I got my 2nd Tactic TTX300 radio transmitter today. This one is missing a 2021 TD kit to call home/best friend... Its a basic but capable model and best of all, no antenna post needed.
  12. I dropped by my parents house and my brother happened to be there. I don't see him too often these days due to work. Had a family meal with him and our parents and then I went for a walk with him. I brought my slash along with me, ripped around on dry grass leaves a bit then moved to defunct parking lot in the park. I let him drive the slash a bit, it got the attention of some small children who tried chasing it. They weren't able to catch it but they sure tried. It got a bit more crowded from 4 kids to 7 and one bike. I took his suggestion to head to a better area to avoid any unforseen incidents. I did play race the kids a bit near the end before moving onto the pedestrian road. I weaved between items and children with safe margin and good rate of speed. I finished off with some straight line runs and he took a short video of one of them. He had alot of fun and so did i watching the kids futilely chase it the weren't any older than 8yrs old maybe a 10yr old was on a bike but I can't really be sure of his age. We parted ways after the speed run video and the battery finished after a few more speed runs. I need to buy a 2nd battery for the slash...
  13. i would be careful how you use that eraser/spinning top to wear it down evenly, it looks like it could get unbalanced easily LOL
  14. thanks, i wasnt that familiar with the BBC series but i knew it was around for a long time. i dont mean any offense but the BB series is more American in the damage potential combinations. BB has a habit to show the more destructive ones on air but there seems to be a fair amount of designs to balance it out. they have a fair amount of flippers but there are more destructive varieties of weapons in BB. probably a 30/70 split but there are many BB matches that dont make the airways as they are the newcomers and flippers seem to be more common there. i like the matches where the participants gang up on the house robots, its a fun side battle option.
  15. So I got around to setting the body lines for the sandslash paint job. I also drew some cut lines on the window cut outs to have a custom window appearance. Likely won't post any pics of it until the first of 2 colors are completed and window areas are painted. Might keep it under wraps until I get the second main color started...
  16. It still is a battle to destroy each other's robots but BB has a regular season which narrows down to 32 robots and eventually 1 sole survivor. 3 minute battle time for judges descision, KO if it's destroyed or has no transitional movement or a ring out to win whichever comes first. They play for a giant nut and they do have some special formats, 1v1, 3 to 6 robot rumble and also a desperado tournament where those on the line of qualifying can opt to do 4 battles (pyramid roster/path) for a guaranteed spot in tournament. Any that don't win are put back in general listing for convetinal route. The robots need strong potential for damage or control but if a robot malfunction could do serious damage to arena then they need to drop out or tone it down. The arena traps are different but there are no house bots looking for opportunities to go for the actual contestants. Weight limits are 250lb wheels or 500lb for walkers. Not sure what sort of robot wars format has for a final prize but seeing robots destroy each other is still good to see.
  17. Bricks do fly, just ask the wet bandits from Home Alone LOL.
  18. That's impressive, the speed runs and the damage done to the chassis and other components.
  19. I've followed that show for a long time. I love the series and I recently found it very therapeutic. If you are ticked off that you broke your RC kit or something related to it the just watch a few BB fights. You see the damage they take and it's likely not as expensive or serious as your kit. Son of Whyachi, Hydra are my favs in that series. One of the older fights with Son of Whyachi vs End game was rather short...
  20. Thank you for the reply, running it in the park is a bit of a dusty area it seems. Its more fun to run the slash in the park due to versatility. Hopefully sone clean indoor track will open up soon, it's currently closed due to restrictions...
  21. so i just finished working on the TT02, the dog bones and related areas got a bit dusty from that run in the park. i removed the top screws of the suspension to clean and lube the bones and oiled the 4 bearings on the diffs. i took off the 4 wheels and greased the outer bearing also. i just let the oil seep into the the bearings for a bit and reinstalled the wheels. now i need to source some more grease for the dog bones as im almost out. any suggestions? i believe its ceramic grease but not completely sure.
  22. trust me, sideways was always an option i was stressing out about when working on that. i put a bit of grease on the first one and a ton of grease on the other. if i remember correctly i unscrewed both of them and used the less greased one to remove excess from the over greased one. one diff was easy to move while the other had more resistance. my standard automobile tools were sufficient for the majority of the kit, none of them prepared me for the 4 diff screws...........
  23. welcome to the club. i had to take the screws off 2x on one diff myself with insufficient driver head. i dont know how many years of life i lost to stress those 15 minutes. i got the JIS tools now but i still stress with those diffs...
  24. i got this big shot of nostalgia in today. loved these back in the day and it sure as heck brings me back to them.
  25. Had a blast today, took the slash to the park and found a good area of dried grass and dead leaves to let it rip on. It went pretty well on that terrain. The rest had snow or was too wet to bother with. I continued on along the pedestrian road and found some one to race :). AA family of Asian descent walking in the park, their 3 kids saw my road and really liked it. They were using those push scooters, I raced them a bit and they had fun at the same time. The area they/we happened to be was narrow and busy enough where I didnt have great areas to really go ful speed but I found a few areas to drive past them :). They seemed to enjoy it alot and so did i. I actually had to carry the slash back as the 3000MAH battery was almost dead when we parted ways and the last 2km i had to walk back.
