Great build @GTodd, looking very nice😎 Ingenious little mod with the gearbox too. Hopefully she's a good runner, let us know how you get on👍👍

I went with the Custom RC alloy parts and the big bores on my build too, such high quality pieces, nothing less for the legendary DS.

Might be worth replacing the arms with 3D printed versions, those originals are likely to be mighty brittle by now and are mighty hard to come by🫣

Yes sir, they've been ordered and no running until installed!

  2. Go to fan RC and get one of these new graphite worlds car. It's actually a rere team car but for legal reasons they likely have to call it a graphite worlds as there is no such thing from AE. Stinks some of you missed out on the gold but there's still tons that you can do to scratch the itch. Heck, get the fan rc10 graphite, pick up a 40th chassis and you can make a 40th CE that AE hasn't done yet etc.  A little more but you will still end up with a super cool rc10.

  3. Well calling this one done....for now. In the future Ill add Sgt's gear box for the fitting of the 201 internals. Im just running a stock brushless set up, although Im betting itd hold up just fine.  Misplaced the darn gear box cover among all the stuff!!! LOL.

With the body on and off you can see where Tamiya got alot of their idea sitting next to the team car I just finished.

Whats next, a replica body and then some track outings to compare it to the Team Car its next to, and probably Sgts trans case with 201 internals. LIkely in Winter of 24/25.

I think I’ve just about finished building chassis number 300.

I just need some decent wheel nuts for the rears and I’m waiting for a new wing wire and diamond mounts to arrive from L&L.

That JJ body is gorgeous! That's the best view of it I've scene yet. I'll be doing up a JCconcepts Worlds Detonator to that livery for my 40th.

I ordered a JConcepts Detonator body, and I'm planning to do something similar to this. Should be finished sometime around the winter of 2028 :D

I'm thinking of doing the EXACT same thing, I have the world's detonator for my team car.

I've hit a few snags on this build. Maybe this helps some folks here:

Right off the bat, Step 1. Pic shows 4 washers, text says 2. I guessed 2 and got lucky, as I needed the other 2 in a later step.

The transmission build has been a challenge. One of the diff outdrives was binding while the other was smooth. I think it was the 1/4 oilite bushing. The internal retaining clip was a nightmare to remove. Had to buy a pair of snap ring pliers, which definitely helped. Removing the bushing proved to be another challenge as the compression fit was extremely tight. After finally getting it out, I used a flange bearing in it's place, and now everything is smooth. Maybe I just had a bad bushing?

Last step of the transmission build...that note about cutting the slot. I would definitely recommend, as it was a real challenge to get that e-clip in place with it completely surrounded in plastic. That bearing adapter should have been molded with a slot.

That's it so far. Maybe this helps someone!

Thanks for the tips. I haven't built a six gear RC10 yet. That's the only reason I chose the 40th over fan RCs graphite worlds car.

  7. There's a very few items to get to make it bullet proof.  Jazy rider makes metal front and rear hubs, and the reas suspension mounts. Blitzer beetles rear suspension mounts and hubs work too. You can also get the front suspension mount in metal as well. The rere super astute parts are still on eBay and can be used too.  Lastly the diff. I guarantee 1/10 of the people that comment on the diff had one. I ran a Joel Johnson modified in mine for a decade, no slipping. If it's not slipping now it won't unless you put a hot brushless in it. The king cab had issues due to it's bigger wheels but even that is over exaggerated.

I’m curious - what makes you so sure?

Good in their day, I agree. Their day was more than a decade ago.  the 501 and DB01 are relics now.

My son has a DB01 and races with me when I bring the 511.  I still place with the 511 in stock class. The DB01 keeps up with me. Someone brought a TD4 to the track. He had the same motor and esc as my 511. He was 1.5 sec slower then me, I took it for a spin and could only get with in 2 sec. TD4 isn't a race buggy, the DB01 is, and in club events the DB01 is still competitive.

Interesting. I didn't build it entirely standard (and it's got CVDs but you'd fit those as a meter of course if racing I imagine), but I don't think my TD4 turns in too badly. I will have looked at the parts and sought to maximise (well, get enough) steering, so I'll have adjusted stops, but I don't recall doing anything unusual in that regard. My servo is on the right, doing away with the last steering link but I'm not sure that affects the extent of steering throw.

That said, I'm no racer. It may not be right up there on the track with the racers of today and some things about it have certainly turned a lot of people off (hence its seemingly poor sales) but there are also a lot of people saying it's competent and it's nice to drive.

It's competent for sure, and no one's intent is to poo poo anyones choices.  That said against the DB01 which is based on the highly successful 501 the TD4 with equal equipment and drivers would lose to a DB01.

I haven't kept up on the complaints myself, I think people would be happier if they drove their RCs instead of seeing them as "investments".

When AE re-released the World's RC10 "hype" wasn't nearly as powerful as it is now. The fact that you can sell something called a "157624" is a testament to how easily influenced people are if you work with the right "influencers".

They could easily not "limit" the re-releases and move kits, but as far as parts go there probably isn't much of a market. Most of these will likely end up forgotten in a box or on a shelf, and providing parts for old models probably isn't a concern for AE.

I'm in the camp of "sell more kits, make the price more reasonable, and sell more parts", let people experience the RC10 instead of just making into trophy. Tamiya has done this quite well, and they've even shaved off some money off of their re-res (if we adjusted the Hornet for inflation it'd be over $300 today).

My current project is to create a runner RC10 from scraps, and I'll gladly let a curious bystander try it out once it's done. These are good cars, everyone should have the chance to try one out.

Youre not wrong. Its a tough place to be.

I had looked at the TD4, but it is quite an odd design requiring you to remove screws to access the battery and with very limited steering. Sure you can remove the steering bump-stops, by why are they there to begin with? It's a half-baked design in some ways. Now, if Tamiya would throw in a Brushless motor and ESC for the price, like the Armma Typhoon, I might change my mind slightly. I will gladly race my DB01 against any TD4. Its really no contest; the TD4 has the steering radius of a semi-truck. My DF03 would crush it as well (breakages excluded). Perhaps unpopular opinion, but the only thing I am convinced the TD4 would be better as is a "shelf-queen".

TD4 is a classic Tamiya buggy, a little wierd, cool to look at , and fun for the backyard.  The ONLY thing the TDs have on the DB01 is that the spare parts and hop ups are currently available.  To RCkicks credit the DB01 is a great car but its part support is now $$$$$

  13. Hahaha fair, I've just witnessed across numerous business lines what happens when customers complain.

Example, what's the last previously completely unreleased rere?? The Super Astute, 50 percent of the people on here complained about, said it was a week release, was a disappointment and etc. Since then what have we got??? Releases based on previous releases. There have been no new rere since the Super A.  Tamiya is for sure in here, I bet they are paying attention. Why would they try anything new again?

Same for AE, they got burned in the Words, they finally come back with the CC first and that was a huge nightmare, the 40th either people are mad that they made too many or not enough. Not to mention I'm a horrible driver, I bash the heck out the team car I rebuilt using 30 year old parts, I haven't broken anything yet. The spares are out there if some how you break something.

  14. Everyone is complaining about the limited availability. Let's look at history. We limited the number of CCs and 40ths.  All sold no stock on hand to lose money on.  AE famously lost their shirt on the worlds car which they made tons of.

As far as part supplies. Meh, Fan RC makes all the parts for the RC10 gen 1 vehicles. Heck they are now making a RC10 Graphite team car for 379, which they call the world's graphite likely for copy right reasons.
