  1. Buggy Champ ball diff could be considered a hopup too I guess - but you have a point about the hopups. Ah well, it leaves room for aftermarket manufacturers to come with something nice :)

$415 back in '88 was a lot! That is, if you look at the lower end cars of which the prices are mentioned in the magazine - in '88 I was minus 3 years, so I guess I can't say much about the numbers relative to the average income and costs of more primary supplies in life back then :)

Or you could purchase the factory as I did for 59 dollars US on fleabay. I also have an extra set of the titanium rods.

    PS

The car didnt handle all that bad, it was the fragility that didnt make the car so great. Hopefuly modern manufacturing techniqes have cured that issue.

  2. Thank you for the pictures of the box open. Can you take a picture of the contents under the blisters? Or atleast varify that the old school wheels are there. If they arent I need to buy from the bay. It is nice that the MkII wheels are there for fitment of modern rubber.

  3. Someone will know...

I have a NIB Avante Carbon Chassis Set... would this be of any practical use on the re-re... given that it is already carbon? Any other bits in the chassis set that could/should be applied to the re-re? Would it even fit?

OMG yes!!!! If the kit is complete it will convert the Re-re to an Egress, minus the ball diffs, and some other tiny bits. Check your PMs.

  4. I think he meant in terms of sales, not performance. Besides the allure of a vintage style vs. modern homogeneous plays a factor, especially at Tamiya prices. Now with Losi's game changing "22," I would never buy a 201x.

I'll get flamed for saying this, but pretty much everything modern from Tamiya doesn't do it for me anymore. I only care about the vintage stuff. The cost of things is not big T's fault. But, the lack of imagination is. I predict tough times for our favorite R/C company, considering the economy around the world, especially in their biggest markets. I think Mr. T knows it, and that is partially why there are these re-releases. It's a brilliant move.

There may be a cooling off with the re-re's at some point, but you can bet we will see more of them in the future. Isn't the FAV going to be re-released?

I hole hardily agree, I even started a thread a few months ago about cars lacking sole. The fun things about the Astute, Avante, Egress, Top Force etc is that they had an intangible "something" that you cant put your finger on. They weren't the best buggies but they could hold their own and were great looking doing it and fun to build. The Re'res capture that fun, yes nostalgia factors in, but being able to ring out an Avante again on the track that is 8/10's as fast as the brand x xyz car but looks 100% better is what it is all about. RC cars originally got HUGE because it was fun, when individuals had to worry about matching batteries, timing motors, and gluing tires for that extra stick the incense was gone. The Re're are bringing some of that fun back.

  5. I doubt serious racer will consider these buggies

Serious no, you are like 10000000000000000000000% correct, Tamiya fans getting back in the game that want something slightly competitive, yes. Just like real race cars, modern fighter jets etc, its 90% about the person at the controls. I believe a Egress or TF EVO in the hands of someone waaaaaaaaaay better than me could get one of those buggies in the Top ten against modern cars.

  6. Heh heh. Why introduce the family members & not let us shake their hands? Why Tamiya tease us? :P I hope & keep my fingers crossed....

You could just make your own. Ive got a Avante Graphite Chassis set, the uber rare Egress shock tower and front shock mounts, and replica decals and bodies are available. Purchase a new Avante and create your won. I dont think Tamiya will do an Egress for the same reason they didnt do an EVO. They would compete too much with their top of the line current shaft and belt buggies.

  7. Since you will have them all, just give em a try. I run my Vanquish with tripple diffs and it runs quite well. Unfortunatelty, the only racing I did was on Traxxas Anaconda tires. I personally believe that the smaller diameter front tires resulted in considerable understeer on the track. Kinda a shame considering how it handles in the dirt with just spire-spikes mounted on star-dish wheels. With this setup it would turn on a dime...

With a set of DF03 wheels and decent tires, I believe you will be ready to start tuning the car. Otherwise, just run it stock.

Yes sir I agree, Ive got my Avante MkII wheels on the way too!

  8. Well Ive got my Novak Brushless and Lipos waiting and just ordered a egress ball dif upgrade for the Avante. Now a question, and I bet 94 can anaswer. What combination of Ball difs, gear difs, center ball diff, and one way have you guys ran and liked the best? My TF EVO and its dual ball dif and one way is a turning demon should I just go the Egress set up? Will running the Avante center diff and one way be counter effective? Im thinking the center ball dif might protect the gear train a litte. Ideas?

  9. I had an original and ran it like I stole it!.....I only broke the front once, and it was only a couple of bits that broke :)

I also had some racing success with it, when they are set up well they corner pretty good, I also found the "Bulk" of it useful for "nerfing" Optima`s and cats out the way.... :)

That my friend is the best thing about this Re-re. Toss in a brushless, charge up your Lipos and see what she can do! The OG is staying on my self this one is going to get beaten! Im going to paint mine black, install Avante MKII wheels with modern tires and give the new cars a run for thier money. Todays smoothe tracks wont point out the Avante's limited suspension travel as much as the older bumby tracks. Cant wait.

  10. Agreed, BUT that carbon looks thick and very strong, Ive got a few original upper decks, I might experiment with those. I dont think Ill be filing away on expensive graphite.

So who thinks we'd get an 2001 or Egress? Less aloy should equal less price. And now with the Avante out all the peices are available. Itll take a second to reprogram the Cad-Cam to make a Egress chassis, and the Egress/Vanquish Suspensions arms are plastic (molds are cheap).

  11. It looks to me like filing out the top plate to fit in a brushless motor will weaken the mount for the control arm significantly.

  12. If you have an Avante project that has been waiting to be completed due to dwindling parts and high prices, now is the time. In the last week Ive seen THREE seperate auctions for the impossible to find ball ends! Currently there are three body sets available, and once again titanium rods are the norm, its 2000 all over again. Now if someome would just sell a ball dif upgrade, I want that bad! My new avante is going to be a runner with novak brushless motivation.
