  1. Well I need to dig up my camera and post up pics on how the DS turned out. I wound up not being able to get a hold of NIMROD and ran the car stock. I used a Brushless Novak set to power the car. The car is so smoothe. I was running it last year at an indoor track in Cali. The track had a few big jumps and the surface was packed clay. Ideal for the DS. I never raced it but it was a fun car to run and it appeared to have the same poise and speed as the new wipper snappers, that is until I broke the rear bulk heads!

  2. PS

Plus I still do not understand what made the car handle THAT bad, now I never realy raced that seriously even as a kid I just enjoyed running what I had built with my own two (at the time little hands) and the look of that sexy car running was a hoot. If you look at todays RC cars the Avante was one of if not the first to run: A mid ship motor inline with the chassis, center ball diff, and dual deck composite chassis. Was it the shot wheel base? The gear diffs? I tell you what though, I am hoping someone puts up the dual ball diff hop up soon on the bay because that is a deffinite must!

  3. Not me. When mine is built it will hit the shelf and stay there for eternity. For all of the nice little tweaks the re-re is getting you just know that it will still be almost as hopeless as the original. I don't have the heart (or the wallet) to thrash the living daylights out of a $400 piece of R/C art.

I will I can not wait too! If the plastics are better the car shouldnt break as much, and tracks are alot smoother these days so the limited suspension wont be such an hinderence. I dont plan on racing, I havent in years but itll be fun to put the Avante through its pace knowing that replacements parts are just an internet order away

  4. i just dont get why people are selling up there original Avantes just because the re re is coming. it dosent de value the car in any which way or form. it is one of the most or if not the most desired Tamiya buggy anyone could own, and that dosent lose value. lm an Avante nut myself having 2 nib and 2 new builds and ive been wanting this for a long time as much as the next guy but in the end its a re re and and not an Original. nothing will top the Original.

I totaly agree, I would imagine that alot of the people who are selling their NIB are looking for quick cash or realy arent true fans and were just in it for the money.

  5. I know I know, I love it, I feal like a kid durring Christmas. This car is going to be ran, I wonder how much 16 ball ends will cost ,I polished the ones on my orginal Avante because they were tarnished. If spare parts are abundant the original and its technigold might come out of retirment too. I havent ran it in a looooooooooong time because as you all know spare parts are few and faaaaaaaaaaaaaar between.

  6. I think that is in reference to the seals at the bottom, before like the HI-Caps the seals are preinstaled and kept in place with a c-clip. Modern dampers, starting with the sleaved Dyna Storm shock have had a cap on the bottom of the shock to ease maintance and replacemet of the seals at the bottom of the shock.

  7. I feal like a kid again! I use to check this forum once in a blue moon to see what was in the news. But now, I check this one thread atleast three times a day for more news. I just checked out the Japanese page with the Avante information. Looks like we will be getting a 99.9% representation of the 1988 model. Im going to purchase an extra top plate, dremel it out and make room for a brushless motor and have some fun, Long live the Avnate. And with a plethora of spare parts I wont feal bad running it, my 1988 vintage might get jealous, she hasnt seen dirt since the late 1990's. Now if only I could find one of those big Avante display posters that use to hang in the Hobby Shops.

  8. Never in my life had I thought that the the Avante would be a legit Re-re and the old "G" 1988 version at that. I would still be completely floored if Tamiya was doing a Re-re of the 2001. This has got to prove that there is no ryme or reason for what Re-re is produced. Well maybe Im wrong, was the Avante one of the Coffee Cans?

  9. I wish I could put into words how great this is. As a grown man in the United States Marine Corps I feel a little childish being so excited about a toy. But wow! I can not wait to see this car sitting on a hobby shops selves again. This is the one and only car I will purchase two of. One to build and run (have an original which hasnt seen dirt since 1990) and another to stay in its box. COlection complete!

  10. Hello everyone. last year I was running my DS at a indoor track in So Cal, it was great fun. So much fun that I brought the TF Evo out of retirmement, gave it some brushless juice and even more fun. Anyway of course the DS rear suspension blocks broke (rear suspension mount). I can not find a replacement part any where. I can not get a hold of NIMROD and there are zero parts on the bay. Do any of you have a pair of rear suspension blocks/bulkheads for a DS, Dyna Blaster or TR15 that you feel like letting go? PM or email, tjm7671@hotmail.com. Thank you

  11. Has to be 1988 and 1990 for me, I remember jstairing at the two page spread of the Avante in the Tamiya Catalog and doing the same thing with the Astute. They were so beutiful and a blast to build. I didnt really care that they werent the fastest or the best. They ran better than the frogs and foxes and looked awesome doing it (well when the Avante wasnt broken or when the Astutes press nuts didnt fall off ...)

  12. Hello everyone, well I also like to build static models in my free time (my gf is a little jealous ;)...) and I am currently working on Tamiya's 1/12 Porsche 935 in Martini livery. Im willing to bet that the body and decals are the same of the 1/12 Tamtech 935 as well as the original 1/12 RC. Id be willing to pay someome to paint and decal the beast. The decals have many curves and Ive ruined a set of decals on the 1/24 and the first 1/12 I built as a kid. Anyone willing to help a guy out? Thank you for looking. Ill post in general too so mods by all means put where you think this should be. Thank you.

  14. Well I don't agree on this, there was a shell that was as "official" as it could be without having released the 211X as an official kit. That shell is pictured on the documentation that was sent out with each numbered car, and as somebody already pointed out it's quite similair to the Dyna shell, although less detailed and not as rounded. I have a couple of pictures somewhere which shows the "manual" or whatever those sheets of papers should be called. Also, all the TRF211Xs I saw in person on the tracks during the latter part of 1992 (4 or 5 ones for Finland+Sweden) were sporting this shell.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that some teams, notably the british one, started running the car in prototype form before it was dubbed the 211X and sent out to team drivers around the world. I've seen some examples with Astute shells early 1992.

Getting pics up tonight of the brushless beast ;)

    PS

    Paul (Origineelreclame... ),

I think the websites PM are messed up. I would like to purchase the suspension blocks fromm you. My email is tjm7671@hotmail.com. Send payment info there please. Hope all is well!!!!

  15. Do not get me wrong, I am very proud that Tamiya's name can be spoken in the same sentence with Associated etc when speaking of top of the line racing RC cars. Why couldnt Tamiya include a sexy body on the 511X or 201X? If I buy a 201x im either painting it Astute REd with Astute decals or DS blue with DS decals to add some style back.

    PS

I just bought an Audi A5, that car is pure sex on wheels!!!!!!

  17. Is it me or do the new cars lack soul? Back in the day when I was a kid I no kidding lusted after the Avante, Egress, Astute, and Dyna Storm. Sure they werent the best racers out there, but it was more than that. The new care are no doubt better, their race victories are of testament, but they feel soul less, like a Honda Civic. They feel more utilitarian than fun. Is it becasue we are older now? I use to stare at picture of the Dyna Storm. badword my GF catches me starring at my Avante and Dyna to this day. Whats missing??????
