  3. So, not been through all the responses so far but I did spend some time with the DX5C setup. AVC is on and i've desensitised the steering but that isn't the issue, however, it has helped highlight exactly what the car is doing. Basically it can drive straight for about 10 yards then actively changes direction left and left only. Once left, it won't correct again without input from the TX.
  4. Thanks all some useful info. I'll get a short video of the issue and some pictures. Funny you mention steering binding, it sort of knocks when you turn the wheels left/right by hand. Servo is mounted on whatever the kit said to use, no additional spacers from memory. I'll look into the sub trim option on the DX5C. I'm using the Tamiya hi torque servo saver. Don't know what AVC is or how to set it up.
  5. Hi all, thanks to help on here, the XV-01 Lancia is now up and running but seems to be incapable of just driving forwards in a straight line. The servo doesn't seem to always return to center and adjusting trim is hard because the car never steers straight to start with. The only thing I can think of is the DX5C doesn't like the futaba S3002 steering servo which was the only thing I had from a previous build. Interestingly, doing a quick Google of XV01 doesn't steer straight returns an almost identical issue to mine and they too are using a DX5C. Hmm. I think the steering sensitivity is too high too but I can't get the car to track straight long enough to adjust it. Additionally, and frustratingly, at part throttle the car is kind of ok but then at full throttle it immediately deviates. It's like torque steer.
  6. Ah thanks, that makes sense. It just sounds "coggie" when hand moving the car backwards and forwards on the desk.
  7. Yes, flat solder tabs. I've had to order long wire because the ESC won't reach from anywhere I place it. That does allow me to place it where I like though once the wire arrives.

  9. I've managed to make it work but the motor solder points are rotated around by the lower front shock. It also seems to be cogging on the large spur gear. Do I need to change that too?
  10. Ok, I was hoping this would all be nice and easy. If I have the Justock rotated in the gear housing so that the solder points are upright, they foul the plastic of the motor housing meaning the motor won't mount. That's not right surely? I can't seem to find a way to position the motor so that it is mountable (with the mounting holes) and not fouling the motor solder points. Has anyone actually ever fitted one of these to an XV01? Seems like I need a shim or something to space the motor out.

  12. So yeah. It's arrived. Now what Do I still use the horn from the kit, because it doesn't "click in". I've put the two brass rings together, and the outer ring over them, and clicked them into the servo Tamiya/Futaba gear. Not sure if that's right or not. The kit one sort of all clicks together nicely using Q4, the Q3 plastic ring (which I think is the plastic version of the metal rings in the 5100 kit) and then JJ10, the horn. Any ideas?
  13. Hi, interested in this thread as building up an xv01 Lancia ATM. Did you paint the outside of the body? It looks like it, but instructions say inside. Is there a good prep for painting, like isopropyl or something?
  14. Thanks for all your help Big Jon. Will the ESC/Combo I linked to come with the motor cables and I just need sensor wire? I'm guessing a nice bit of heatshrink at the motor terminals never hurt?
  15. Oh got it. It's basically saying that if I run a 2S Lipo, then with this ESC I could run down to a 8.5t motor. As opposed to, if you run 2S Lipo, your motor will effectively run at 8.5t. So I'm good to click "buy" ?

  18. Thanks everyone, for the input. Is this ok then. I really just need something now to get my wheels moving. The chassis has been built for months and all the talk of brushless, sensored, sensorless, KV this, Lipo that seems to have just created a minefield of what used to simply be, TX/RX servo, motor, drive Will this fit the bill for now and I'll have to scrub up on my soldering skills .   19. Thanks Jonathon. I used to have a HW1050 QR (I think it was) but that wasn't programmable, or sensored. Can I still run a sensored motor and if so, do you have a recommendation? I think the Justock is ok but soldering connections isn't my forte. Not sure if there are ready made spade connector leads I could use? Do you know if the programmable ESCs you've mentioned will fit in the electronics bay?
  20. Hi all, Got an XV-01 and whilst I'm not new to the RC scene, it's been more years than I care to remember since I last bought and built up a car. So, here I have the XV-01 Lancia. I want to swap out the standard silvercan for something more meaningful, perhaps sensored brushless, which can run off of 2S Lipos. Ideally, I want speed/acceleration, but definitely don't want a handful. The car should still handle nicely. The balance is what I''m after. Some kit I already have: 2 x 2S Lipo Overlander balance charger Futaba S3004 servo Spektrum DX5C TX What motor/ESC combo should I be looking at to get that balance or power, handling and runtime? Additionally, the ESC must fit without the need to modify the chassis or electronics bay. Would a Justock 13.5t be ok for the XV01? Thanks
