  1. I knew I was going to buy this the moment I saw it.
  2. rcMart order arrived. Bought a LOT of Yeah bearings and some parts for my riders.
  3. Using both the dry and wet technique now. Didn't have enough soap before; needed a drizzle instead of a dab haha. I seriously underestimated how much work putting all these stickers on would be. Couldn't quite match up the sticker on the rear fender with the one on the quarter panel. That thin grey stripe bugs me :| Wish Tamiya left a tad extra size on it so I could overlap them better. Cutting and placing each sticker is like a puzzle. I prefer to do as much cutting with the knife as possible and be strategic about where I start and stop the cuts. Some touch up with the scissors. All concave curves I try to hit with the knife.
  4. Ah, I'll check that out. I believe I ran the black up a bit higher from the bumper knowing the stickers were going there(and masking that section was a bit of a pain due to the shapes). Really struggling with the stickers. I tried two on top with Windex and went for soapy water on the hood/bonnet. But the soapy water barely takes the sticky out of these things. I resorted to submerging them for a few seconds, maybe multiple times, and even wetting the surface additionally. But I don't really get that "sliding" effect people talk about. They are STILL too sticky. Then I need to hit it with heat to get the contours, but it dries it out too fast and water bubbles get trapped that are a super, super hard to remove. Maybe I didn't use enough soap?
  5. Finalized the chassis this evening. Electronics and everything sorted; just needs a bit of cable management. Removed my 45USD powerhobby servo and replaced with a popular el-cheapo 20kg from Amazon along with the kit servo saver(even though the cheapo came with an aluminum horn). The powerhobby was overspecced for this and will probably go into my Avante or TRX4 build. Unless I'm imagining things, the new cheap servo seams less responsive. The plastic servo mount and two(!) screws the kit prescribes for attachment is a bit wonky IMHO. I see a hop-up mount in my future. May end up ripping that receiver out too and DUMBORCing this. Is there a better way to mount this stuff for removal? Mounting putty? Now I need to steel myself for applying the insane number of stickers on the body :|
  6. I was sold a Spektrum DX5C(overpriced and etc but I splurged a bit at local shops) and discovered just how un-economical the receivers would be with many cars. Augmenting that with a DUMBORC and their ~15USD receivers. Better for sharing too. These LiPos were a great deal as long as they don't blow up on me. 20USD for the lot! Should fit the trikes and other cars requiring the rounded sticks. Both arrived at 3.85 on all cells. Needed to "open up" each of the female pins on the balance lead individually before I could get the LiPo alarm/meter plugged in. Kind of an odd quirk.
  7. Built and installed the super mini CVA shocks. It was pretty straight forward but there are a mess of different size bits and shims; no clue what a proper setup is supposed to be like. The instructions also reference a "yellow spring". Not sure what that is, but these shocks seem super soft. The front is pretty lively but the rear, while better after I swapped in the largest shims, feels like mud. This is my new favorite tool full stop.   9. Thanks! Yes, a jig would be nice.. One of the biggest challenges, outside general soldering issues, was getting the battery into a good position. The leads are pretty short, and not super pliable, so the battery would move around and then pull the wire away unless I held the wire in place with my free hand. The female cups also being the shallow cups doesn't help either.
  10. Not super specific to the GT-R, but I knew I wanted to standardize on XT60(and bullet for the motors).. Time to learn how to solder.. Lead-free.. 'Cause YOLO. ESC first. It was tricky getting enough heat locally. If I take too long to get the heat up too much travels down the wire before it gets hot enough to melt the solder. I found I needed at least 800f for my solder and tip and adding a bit extra to the contact point between the piece and the iron can help.. May need a bigger chisel tip and/or hit my current tip with some grit; it's not tinning very well. Lipo time. Sketchy! Womp womp. The joints are super stiff and I can't get the hard plastic boot over. Will likely touch that up to at least put some longer shrink tubing on.. May not do the boot though.
  11. So shiny. I really like how the front grill and "bumper" came out with the flat clear.. I munged the bottom right of the grill on purpose to figure out if the protective coating was under the matt coat. Had a small issue with the film tearing away and staying under the edge of the coat. Might try to touch that up but might not. On to the stickers next. Feeling lazy to use soap and heat but I don't want to waste the opportunity to try those techniques.
  12. Ooof. Was not looking forward to that. It crossed my mind as to if people just tossed them and bought new if it went sideways with the screws haha.
