I stuck some oil filled shocks on my rere pumpkin and the rear brace and it handles far better than my stock Lunchbox. I used the ones from JK-RC and they are awesome. You can see them in the build video below.

41 year old man child. Rediscovering RC's
Misterp180 replied to 16_Bit_Mr_J's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Glad I am not the only one!! I started back last year with my original retro cars. Convinced I needed a car to understand the build process in order to clean the old ones up and refurbish them…. I now have 12 new cars (3 still in their boxes to be built next year) and a plan for more! It is addictive but loads of fun. -
Final build part! I made it to the end and there is some footage of both this build and my 1980 original. Just want to get a proper running video now but it has been great fun building this Kyosho. Thanks for all the advice and support!

Here we have part 4. Finished building up the rear of the car. Gearbox is finished and I have mounted the servo. Just need to get the wheels finished then we can run it round the track!

Catching up on things last night. Here is part 3 of the Raider Project. I have build everything up to mounting the motor. Next video will complete the Chassis then hopefully I can get some footage of it running before the bad weather gets here!

Getting these onto the Raider chassis has been a right pain! They are finally set correctly although I am not sure on the front hex nut as I think it is slightly too big and comes loose too easily. Final tidy up of the cables this weekend and a quick mow of the track and we should be able to show the finished car! I have really enjoyed this build and have already started wondering if the next one should be brushless…. 😁

Hi everyone! Raider build has been progressing and I am hoping to post some updates this weekend. I have hit a huge stumbling block and waiting on some parts. However, I am looking for some advice for Raider build number 2!! I need a pinion but cannot navigate through the various options out there. https://www.rcbearings.co.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=198 I need to order a few more bearings (long story) but would any of these at RC Bearing be suitable for the Raider? Cheers community

Used some of the spare tubing this evening to protect the bug house and keep any cars out of the bottom flower bed near the grape vine. Next project for the track is clean up and some more dirt between the cherry tree and the kicker. I want to try and get as many stones out of the track and then whack the dirt down to compress as much as possible. During rainy days I need to finish the tyre chicane although I am not sure where that is going now!

@Busdriver I am lucky we only have one dog and she is banned from the track area. First time up she started digging 😂! The track is extremely tricky to drive fast. The pipe has helped with the confidence as there is less risk of hitting the trees now. I am also trying to protect the big house further up the track as there are bricks in there which will be rather unforgiving to novice drivers! Thanks for the positive encouragement and I have plenty of ideas for next season! First job is to finish my chicane.

Had some friends round at the weekend and we got out on the track. My buddy has a 12yo lad who preferred the stick controller (like the PlayStation 😂) and we spent a good half an hour racing. I ended up in a lunchbox hunting them down best I could but it was a great afternoon and exactly what I built the track for!

Video is finished! Very short but just good Sunday fun! Cheers

Been a busy weekend but I found some time to finish painting these tyres and I managed to get some time up on the track fitting the land pipe. I am pleased with how it has turned out. I need to finish some of the edges and I am going to fill the centre with wild flowers for next season. Practice laps when well with the DT-03. I’ll post a video once finished editing!

I have a cunning plan…. If it works!! Hopefully easier on the dirt track.

Homebrew spray booth is out today! Found a primer can in the workshop so that is going on first. Hopefully it helps the next coat stick!

Made these this evening. Going to build some moveable tyre wall chicanes out of them. I need to find a way of tying the together and I want to paint the stacks red and white. I have some white paint left over from previous builds but I need to get some red over the weekend. If this works I’ll be needed many more knackered tyres for the outside of the turns!

@silvertripleI hear you with the garden maintenance dude! That comes first before track!
-
@silvertriple I would love to have that sort of space but don’t envy the maintenance on a track that size! My track had to work in the small space available but also needed to be easy enough to turn back to garden should the time come to sell up and move on. I am considering a project to extend the track as I have about 2x3m of waste in front of my shed. I am considering some moveable jumps which can be put out ready for racing. Check out this YouTube channel for more ideas as Vintage Backyard R/C has been my inspiration so far!

@Tizer It has been a fun project and has saved the lawn! The lockdowns gave me the time to rediscover the RC hobby and I wanted to make sure there was space to have fun with the various cars etc I am building. We have a tarmac drive so I was keen on setting up a road track at some point also but realised very quickly that for it to work the tarmac surface needs to be very clean otherwise the cars seemed to slip about far too much! Maybe I will try a TT-02 chassis at some point and see if that is any better. Thanks for replying!

Time to stop cutting corners! I have had too many tree related incidents in the last few weeks and I decided it was time to protect them and the cars. I have been lucky to date and only had a few dampers pop loose. It is only a matter of time before something terminal happens. While doing this I am also going to try and remove as many rocks from the surface as possible. For those that watched the M-05ra going round the track you will have seen the impact of rocks on the surface. My last attempt at doing this created a huge dip past cherry tree turn which I am going to try and avoid this time. I am also going to experiment with a chicane leading up past the bug house. I have quite a few knackered tyres which sprayed up red and white could make it look quite interesting. Hopefully this adds a little challenge to my lap as I am noticing my skills at controlling the car are getting better and more of the track can be taken at full throttle. I also want to amp up the dirt kicker a little for some more air time without risking too many broken cars! Thanks for reading.

Bank holiday funday! Going to be on the track this afternoon after some tidying and a little maintenance. I know it isn’t much but having space in the garden to blast every weekend has been great fun. I am looking for ideas to improve my track so I welcome any suggestions? I have some land pipe arriving next weekend to edge the track ready for next year. My autumn project is clearing the space in front of the shed where I could put another section of track but it will take most of the winter to tidy and clear.

Part 2 with Chassis 2 This one was really nice. A little bit of grime in the gear box took some scrubbing but the rest of the chassis was in great condition. I now have all the missing parts I needed. If I could find another set of motor plates and a pinion I could almost build 2 full Raiders now! I will be well covered in spare parts for the next few years I think. The build has started and progress is going nicely. I should have given more thought how to record the build. I am still very much a novice YouTuber!!

Just spent an hour moving some topsoil up to the track to fill in the dip at cherry tree turn. It was not working out after removing all the stones so I am planning to level it out over the next week. I have also levelled off the run up to the plums bump as it was a higher kicker one side to the other. I am starting to wonder if a top layer of soil packed would help with track maintenance. It is a learning curve at the moment which I am sure will get better through the winter into next season!

Your cool dude. I joined a really good TT-02 group on FB that gave me some good advice but I went up to the TT-02b as I prefer running off road.
-
Might be better posting in a TT02 tread bud. Not sure there will be too many tarmac runners looking in my dusty mini garden bowl track!! 😂 Tyres are a dark art and most of my advice have come from the Facebook groups for specific models. Some of the DT-02/03 boys really helped me dial in my DT-03. When I reverted to the stock wheels and tyres the other day it was night and day! Good luck on the tyre hunt!
