I used to use sticks when I was a kid 30 years ago but it seems as though the designs haven't moved on. Are there any that don't have masses of chrome and big flipper switches across the top for all the extra channels I wouldn't need for an electric buggy?
Something like the equivalent of a Noble NB4 for style, function and value....

I have the smaller 1/14th scale 144001 and it’s a blast even with a brushed motor! So small and light, it’s great fun and pretty tough even at the skate park. Nothing is indestructible though. Wish this had been available 30 years ago when I was a kid using Nikko..... (fortunately that led to Kyosho and some proper racing)
I have Serpemt, Team C, Team Associated and PR buggies also, which are clearly another level but I wouldn’t want to bash them even though they are tough enough.
I don’t think availability is too good regardless at the moment, a lot of the wltoys spares are available pretty quick on eBay, and why not buy a few of the obvious spares anyway?
There is clearly a lot of love and promo going on for WLtoys but don’t assume cheap and cheerful stuff over here is any better is what I would say

Having got back into the RC car thing in the last few months after 25 years since doing it as a kid, I like the building cars, tuning them (just a little....I don't see how life is long enough to make use of a lot of modern buggies adjustability!?) and racing something fast. I get a bit nostalgic at the thought of Optima Mids, Procats, Manta Rays etc but I don't really care whether the cars are scale representatives of their full size off road buggies or trucks. So long as I can paint them in a smart colour scheme and race through the twisty bits and then launch it full tilt down at an insane speed down the straight....
F1 cars bear no resemblance to road going cars, yet people don't care that the cars don't resemble anything that's practical or that a civilian might drive.....
Fast kit is so relatively cheap nowadays, I don't see the merit in limiting what is used. Perhaps regulations on the actual car but if my motor destroys the gearbox because it's too powerful for a 1980s/90s or stock plastic Tamiya or whatever - then that's my look out?
But there is either a market for alternate RC racing or people just like the low faff and maintenance (clean up) of carpet and astro....

@mastino How do you get those front wheels to fit? Are they not hex fitment wheels and the RF/Aqroshot front is bearing fit without hexes?

Do You Race a Tamiya Off Road?

I know the last post in this thread was a while back now, but having got back into RC recently, I've seen a few Tamiya Racing Fighters at our club. Not going to win the A-final (perhaps???!), but in the lower finals it's as much about getting round the track cleanly and consistently. One guy was doing quite well until I think his transponder packed in. He did say it was a bit of a handful with the front end being so light but he was still going pretty quick and consistent for a new guy. My mate and his son have just got one each and again, fairing ok amongst the slower racers first time out. They've set them up low (we run on astro) and I've had a drive, they handle pretty well. They've since got faster motors and a few of the alu parts to strengthen the front end and are going to see where it gets them. And there's enough adjustability in them before considering the different position pivot blocks and all the myriad of other adjustments the more expensive buggies have.
Importantly, everyone at the club is welcoming and no one really cares what you drive, just keen to have like-minded people to race and chat with.
