  1. I hadn't though of reinforcing it, was just going to rely on epoxy, but this is a much better idea!
  2. I didn't know the tubs were different, I've got another one which I'll have to check to see if it's the same...
  3. I've got an old TA-01 which I fancied making into a rally beetle after seeing the Tamiya kit one, only problem is the wheelbase is different! I did a rough measurement and figured it would work out ok, but as you can see the chassis is just a bit too long for the body... As I wanted this to be as authentic as possible I have removed the front gearbox contents and the drive shaft, so it'll be RWD and rear engined, so my solution at the moment is to try sawing a chunk out of the chassis to make it about .5cm shorter! Has anyone tried this before or have any more sensible solutions?
  4. I've recently brought by 1990's Top Force back to life, including it's MC210 speed controller, plus a Tamiya Sport Tuned motor. During it's first runout it didn't seem to be as fast as i remember - I had the same motor in by GH2 SG previously and it went like a (bouncy) train! Then after about 10 minutes I noticed the motor whistling when running so I stopped to check it and the ESC and motor were unbelievably hot! I was wondering if this could be related to the battery? When I used to race it I used 1400SCRs, but the new ones I have bought are 3300s, which seems like quite an increase, could it be that the old ESC can't cope with modern batteries? I've just swapped the ESC out for a cheap one I bought from modelsport (a Sniper RV20) but haven't tried it out yet, anyone have any ideas? I am driving on grass so would expect it to be more strenuous than the tarmac/carpet racing I used to do, but the GH didn't suffer the same problem!
  5. good tips there, thanks! ultimately I can see me ending up with both, but I'm seeing if I can find a repairable MB on ebay to start with, if not then I'll get a new LB, fate will decide!!
  6. Yes I agree, am interested to see how it drives with those rear wheels, but it's on for £900 so not for me! Looks good with the black bodywork!
  7. Keeping an eye on MBs on ebay - anyone seen this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273817304000?hash=item3fc0c87bc0:g:4LMAAOSwpclcvduX
  8. An idiot driving a Grasshopper 2 Super G badly on grass. Watch out for the bit where I try to jump over the camera, as if one of these ever goes in a straight line!
  9. I think I'm going to play it safe and get a LB, then when the kids wrestle it off me I'll have an excuse to buy an MB... (then not let them drive it)
  10. I'll do a post when I get to it (got to finish the top force first!) but agree about the realism. To be honest I saw the 58650 Beetle and wanted one but couldn't justify it when I had a perfectly good chassis not being used... I'll make a note of your suggestions!
  11. So this BF is just a black plastic hardshell polished with car polish? Does that work out more scratch resistant than paint?
  12. ok, so what you're saying is I need to get a (or 3) Lunchbox, a Monster Beetle, a Midnight Pumpkin and possibly a Blackfoot... DO YOU GUYS TEND TO RUN OUT OF MONEY OR SPACE FIRST? i think I'll start with the LB and see how out of control the addiction gets. Thanks for all your advice!
  13. I'm doing this same conversion on a TA-02 so thanks for the useful tips everyone - I removed the propshaft and all contents of front gearbox/cups etc, haven't tried driving it yet but seeing as it's going to be a Beetle rear heavy would certainly be more authentic!
