  1. Seeking buggy livery advice
I did not want to follow box art and had some Momo livery decals destined for touring cars handy.  Here is a color photocopy mock up for review.

    What do you think?

I may not install the center racing stripe as I have mixed feelings on the design

  2. Worked on my first Fire Dragon last night and compared it to my recent experience with the TT-02B.   Overall the Fire Dragon is a great kit with metal dogbones and large CVA dampers.  The assembled tolerance is much better with limited slop.   Steering design is really old and could use improvement.  Lots of hard plastics which may crack more easily over time.  Ground clearance is impressive even with smaller diameter tires.

Even if yours was probably a typo, it's a fantastic name! After the Saint Dragon, Tamiya should totally come up with the Satan Dragon for it to battle with! Ahahah

+ 1 about the Manta Ray rears, they'll fit.

Sorry for typo.  Maybe I can get MCI to change the wording to Satan Dragon 😂.

thanks for confirming rear tire.  Need to find a store which sells them.  Do you know any good stores @Ferruz ?

I still need to find front tires 🤔

  4. 2 hours ago, bRIBEGuy said:

Doesn't the Saint Dragon just use the same size fronts at the Wild One (etc...), and the same rears as almost all the reres?  You could run Manta Ray rears and Wild One fronts...

The Fox front tires are a larger diameter.   I cannot confirm if Wild One front tires are same as Fox front tires.

I need to check if Manta Ray tires are same as Saint Dragon.  Does Tamiya still make Manta Ray tires?

  5. As noted in the title, I’m looking for tires to refurbish two RC cars, the original fox, and the original Saint dragon.

More specifically I’m looking for tires on the original 2WD Saint dragon. This chassis and smaller wheel size is based off the Madcap. The tires are much smaller than the newer modern buggy sizes.  I would like to stick with Tamiya tires if possible, as these will be Resto-mod cars.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  6. Picked up 2 used buggies back to back.  Original Saint Dragon chassis (missing body) and an original Fox.

Both have seen better days and all the tires are cracked or have holes.  Fox decals are peeling and will see if I can reglue them back down.  I will get a new Saint Dragon body as there is a new ReRe kit but will not follow box art.

Will send updates as I collect parts for a refurbishment project

    🤞

I'm in Scarborough, mostly tinkering and trying build stuff out of Juggernaut bits recently so not a lot of driving.

Still good.  Interested in joining our WhatsApp group?  So far no meet but lots of Tamiya / RC chatter 😂

    I hope this works

One thing i always wanted to to try with dual motor setup, is to have the front motor with a sligtly higher rpm just to get little more front traction.

This would be the ultimate rally chassis!

I am really liking this new chassis its a tinkerer's dream

Something i am realising over the years:  the models that have stuck with me are the ones i could modify/tinker with!

    Fully agree.

Love the idea of tinkering / modifying Tamiya kits to give it additional individuality

Trying to prep for some painting... but a "Hey it's Spring!" dump of 10cm of snow has killed the ability to spray anytime soon...

I feel your pain.  In Toronto it started to snow again.  Switching to the pre-paint Fire Dragon kit for now.

I keep my Blitzer Beetle next to my Axial SMT10, and every time I looked at them the same idea kept popping into my head, so I decided to try it. Had to design and print some adaptors, but it looks pretty badass. The front wheels can turn the full range without the tyres even touching the chassis. The body would have to have the wings removed for it to go back on. Think I might have to pick up another BB kit and do this as a build, likely a shelf queen though as I suspect it might go through motors very quickly.

Can she float on water with those large tires?

After looking at this picture, what you want to do comes better into focus.  I don't see why you couldn't do both.  I'm sort of tempted to buy two kits to find out!

A few guys clarified the between the left image and the center image the entire chassis has been rotated at 180°.  It is not as simple as just moving the motor and transmission from mid front to mid rear.

good news, based on the right image, it looks like the center driveshaft goes below the battery to drive the rear wheels. This means potentially you can convert this to a four-wheel-drive BT – 01.

You could just use 1 motor.  Like @FuzzyFlynn said, the diff can be flipped. So you don't have to worry about the direction.

I've seen a Japanese dude selling a shaft extension for MB-01.  Or maybe it was just a longer shaft.  All you had to do was to drill a hole on the cover.  The problem for MB-01 was that the shaft couldn't go anywhere because of the battery. (Unless you have a saddle pack.)  But BT-01 has the battery raised up, so that the shaft could reach the rear diff.  So something like that would make it 4x4.  (And it might come with a cover with a hole on this side already.)

    EDIT: I found the video.

I remembered wrong. He just stuck a 3D printed shaft to the gear.  I don't think that's the most secure way.  I wish Yeah Racing or Jazrider could make a longer shaft that could connect to both drive shafts.  Anyway, it could be done with 1 motor.

    Interesting.

if the BT-01 is 4WD, overall it will be similar to a TC-01 in layout?

    I'm interested.

Is this just an idea... or did someone actually do this?

I know very little about the BT-01 platform though.

Just a though looking at the diagrams. I do not have one and hope someone can confirm it is possible

Electrified my Baja Bug with electrics I have in the drawer ( mod touring only ) Overkill much ? 😂

It’ll probably end up with a silver can/lipo setup or a 17,5 justock I have loose. Didn’t want to spend the afternoon soldering.

Might keep this build very simple and kinda rough. It will be used directly and not be babied.

    Can anyone confirm it’s a TT02B?

Any tips on taller tires ? I’ll have a look at  1.55 crawler stuff.

By the way, where did you get the body mounts?   Looks like a great 3D printed solution

I used the Blitzer Beetle tires on my build. 2 sets of rear wheels (The stock Blitzer is only 2WD).  Clearance will be an issue with the beetle body.  I jacked up the suspension and lifted the body.
