05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Sounds good, that is exactly how I will be running my Astute. I don't think heat will be an issue, the gear ratio is good with the TTC even with the 26t pinion. Thanks for commenting, it gives me a little more confidence to run it with this setup. I'll be using a HW 1060 or 1080 ESC and a 2s lipo. -
05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Update for anyone who is interested... I bought the 26t 05 mod pinion that was available...and it fits! It is the largest you can use with the original TTC. The Mesh is perfect, and it is steel, not the soft aluminum so it should last. I did purchase a Super Stock BZ motor and upgraded the bushings to bearings. It has a lot of torque, so hopefully it will be a good combination for my runner Astute. -
05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I was thinking a Super Stock BZ motor should work also, has a lot of torque and will handle 2S Lipo without an issue. The TTC gearbox might have a large spur, but it is quite smooth, not a lot of resistance. I don't think heat will be an issue...fingers crossed. But I do like the idea of the shorty Lipo, anything to save weight is welcome. Would love to see where you positioned it. -
05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I saw the Arrma .5 pinions, unfortunately the bore is not correct. They use those for their smaller 1.18th scale RCs. The 540 motors have a bore of 3.17mm. I just ordered the 26T df03 pinion, next problem is will the motor overheat with such a big pinion (max should be 23T). As long as I use a motor with a lot of torque and adjustable timing, I think that should work. I do plan on running it, and I think the Dynatech 02H has plenty of torque. Might try to find one if it is cheap enough. -
05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I saw the 26T, I can get that, but the motor plate only allows up to a 23T pinion. Also the gear cover might not fit over a 26T even if I file down the motor plate to make the 26T fit. I saw that FTX makes a 22T .5 mod but the bore is 2mm so I would have to drill out the center or find a machine shop to do it more precisely. I'm going to keep searching. -
05 Mod Pinion Gears for Super Astute TTC Gear Set and DF-03
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
The original TTC Gear Set from 1991 has a different slipper clutch than the one from 2018. Looks like I might be able to do it if I have all of the modern TTC parts (plates/pads/spring...and so on). But those parts don't seem to be available anymore. The hunt is on! It's getting harder to find the vintage parts to run these cars...I like to run my vintage cars too. -
Hey Everyone! I am working on a vintage Astute and Super Astute and I'm running into a pinion issue. Seems like the 05 Mod Pinions are super hard to find these days. I have TTC Gear Sets for both and I only have one 20T pinion. I would love to get 2 23T pinions for both...but yeah, no luck at all finding them. Looks like Tamiya sold a set for the DF-03 (53922) with a 23T and 25T pinion but I can't find them. Does anyone know where I can find 05 Mod Pinions that will work with the TTC? I would rather not modify anything at this point. Any help would be appreciated

Anyone else? I think there would have to be more of a response for him to make them. -
JC Racing - BigWig Front Suspension Arms...Who Needs Them!

Yes! hoping more people respond...reach out to all BigWig fans you know! -
Really! you have a set? 11796

Attention all BigWig fans! I wanted to take a poll as to how many people would be interested in buying replacement BigWig front suspension arms (F parts) I reached out to John with JC Racing and he said if there were enough people interested he would consider making/selling them. I run my BigWig and front arms are impossible to find because they are only used for the BigWig, no other models. They can also be used to convert a boomerang to a dual shock setup. They would be much better quality plastics and be great for runners or to replace old cracked arms. Please reply back to this post if interested...Hopefully I'm not alone in this. Also if anyone has the F-Parts tree for a BigWig let me know!

I'm in NY

Tried Tamico, RCMart, all the usual places...I can't even find someone making 3d printed ones. I'll have to find a parts car I guess, and hopefully the front arms are good.

Any BigWig fans out there have spare parts? Looking for front suspension arms
-
Does anyone have a set of front arms for a BigWig? I restored an original 1986 and of course on the second run one of the lower arms cracked. Doesn't look like any other arms from other models are the same. Checked the obvious places and no one has a set. Also checked on Shapeways with no luck. Any help would be amazing.

All, I'm looking to finish an original Madcap project, I am missing a few parts...the motor protector in the rear that attaches to the gear cover, and the front blue friction dampers/shocks. Anyone have these parts? I do have the springs for the dampers but need everything else. Thank you

Vintage V1 Hi-Cap Damper Oil Seal Replacements?
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I ordered some...I have a set of red seals but they are too big (don't remember what kit they are from). I ordered item number 9805486. Hopefully they will work. Thanks Max! -
Hello everyone! I'm trying to bring back to life a set of vintage Hi Cap oil dampers (version 1)...I'm struggling to find a replacement Oil Seal (Top oil seal to replace the original Blue ones). Has anyone found a replacement or had this issue? I've tried a few different seals I had laying around but they are either too large or too small. The original Blue ones are hard and just leak oil through the aeration hole. Any advice? Thoughts?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a Tamiya Madcap chassis...hopefully one with no cracks/repairs/plastic missing. I'm restoring one and I have all the parts other than a good chassis. Reach out to me or reply back here if you have one!

I have been looking and haven't found the gear, I did find a second Ultima that has all the parts I need to complete my project. Luckily the center gear is perfect in this one. Seems like parts are getting harder to find for the vintage Kyosho kits...and when they do pop up on ebay, people are asking a fortune for them.
-
Thanks, I was looking at a few on Shapeways (yes, the nylon 12), but if you factor in shipping and processing fees it might be better to either find another donor car, or just upgrade to the re-release gearbox/gears. It would be great if Kyosho supported the old vintage buggies, but I understand why they wouldn't at the same time. That being said, I was able to find another complete Ultima with radio for $110...should be delivered tomorrow...if the gears are destroyed I'll probably go the Shapeways route. Unless one pops up here or on EBay. One nice thing about the Tamiya kits, I am usually able to find replacement parts.
-
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement "Center Gear" for a vintage Kyosho Ultima? I saw some 3d printed ones out there, but I'm not sure they will hold up...this is for a runner that I am rebuilding. I have been looking forever and no luck. Any help would be awesome! Erick

Wanted: Manual Speed Control Ceramic Resistor 7265006
EEK2112 replied to EEK2112's topic in Sales, trades & wanted
Unfortunately they are not the correct size/value resistors. I have been checking there too. They used this resistor on the Falcon/Monster Beetle/Blackfoot/Striker only. -
Hello Experts...I need some help. I am looking for a 3 prong resistor for a manual speed controller. I am restoring a Falcon and it is the last part I need to bring it back to life. Any idea where I can find one? The Falcon manual calls out part number 7265006. If anyone has spares or knows where I can find one PLEASE let me know! you can email me too at eek2112@gmail.com Thank you! Erick

Upgrades for Fire Dragon/Terra Scorcher/Etc.
EEK2112 replied to Jacques.Eloff's topic in General discussions
Dave...Do you have and use the metal driveshaft from shapeways? Is it smooth? no binding/friction? I'm not sure if I want to try that or go with the Hotshot joints/TT02 prop shaft. Any opinions on this anyone?
