Basically things seem to have moved on a little since I last took my RC10 out for a race meeting, however since being given a on old frog recently I seem to have the bug again! Now the reason I stopped racing was that it was getting too expensive even with some sponsorship, regualrly attending Regional and National events was very expensive. My question is, what's the score these days, what classes are people racing? I (think) I fancy a touring car (Tamiya ) as I hear that offroad 2wd/4wd is pretty much dead. If I go for a touring style car, what is the most common classes, electric, IC, carpet or tarmac. I have just read a couple of other posts about different chassis and they mentioned Corrally RDX and hread a comment something like 'everyone is racing associated these days' If I buy an electric 1/10 touring car can I use this indoor and outdoor is it best to go for shaft or belt drive? I just don't know where to start after such a long absence from the sport, I guess no-one is still running 1700 SCE's? Any info greatly received Thanks Karl

Painting lexan bodies on the outside!!!!
Dangerbus replied to Dangerbus's topic in General discussions
Thanks for the reply, some great info there, as for the finish I'm not after a shelfqueen but I do want a respectable looking car. I will give it a go and see what happens. Thanks again DB -
Hi, I am restoring a porsche 959 and the chassis is pretty much complete however the only body I have is a pretty battered one. My question is can I repair the lexan body on the inside (how?) and then paint the body on the outside? This may sound odd but this will enable me to rebuild the body and reinforce the body on the inside. I guess I can use lexan paint on the outside but how do I get a gloss finish, can you get clear lexan lacquer? Any advise much appreciated? DB

Miramar, Thanks for the reply, not what I wanted to hear but thanks for the info. Cheers Karl

Hi all, I am in the initial stages of modifying my blazer, it is no shelf queen but at the same time I don't want to start butchering it. I have fitted Juggernaut (spelling!) leaf springs which jack the car up by about 20mm and was wondering whether I cam fit bruiser/mountaineer wheels and tyres? Are the hubs on the blazer/hilux the same wheel fitment as the bruiser? Where can I get wheels from? Thanks Karl

Disco, Thanks for the reply, I tried what you suggested (RES) but the speedo still doesn't respond, I even reset the TX back to factory settings but no difference. I can't think of anything else to try. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Karl

Hi all, I have a Futaba FF3 TX mated to a Futaba 1024 PCM receiver, I am currently running 2 channels plus the switched 3rd channel in my Tamiya blazer through an old futaba electronic speedo. My problem is that the speed does not have a linear reverse, it is either all or nothing. So to get round this problem I purchased (via ebay) a new electronic speedo that has a one-touch set-up, the speedo is unbranded (ACME) and has come from Hong-Kong, it is basically a copy of a Futaba MMC330 but my problem is that it doesn't function with my FF3 radio gear. If I plug the speedo into my old Futaba attack radio gear then it works ok. Any ideas or advice greatly recived. Cheers Karl

3 Channel Radio in Blazer
Dangerbus replied to Dangerbus's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
Thanks guys for all the replies... However I managed to get my transmitter in to '3 position mode' for the switchable 3rd channel, this means I have full travell right, neutral position and full travel left on the servo. I rigged this up to the blazer and hey presto a trip-tronic gearbox! After a bit of fiddling with the linkage the shifting is great, I have a '+' and '-' buttons on my FF3 TX and I can go up and down the 'box at the press of a button. Thanks again guys. Karl -
3 Channel Radio in Blazer
Dangerbus posted a topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
Hi all, I finally got my balzer running at the weekend thanks to the proper pinion installed (thanks Jakes). I am just running 2 channel radio at the moment and am looking at the cheapest way to have 3 channels. I have a FF3 (Field Force 3) Futaba radio that has a (switchable not variable) 3rd channel but I have no instructions for it and have no idea how the 3rd channel works. I'm guessing that it work like a switch which means I could turn something on or off? Can I use the 3rd channel to work the gear slection on my Blazer even if it were just to switch between 1st and 2nd gear. Apologies if I'm talking rubbish! Any advice appreciated. Karl -
Jim, If you still have a spur gear for the hilux/blazer I am certainly interested. Thanks Karl

Thanks guys for the replies, at least it confirms I have the wrong pinion - Doh! On the bright side, at least if I get hold of the correct pinion then I have half a spur gear still to use! Thank again Karl

Hi all, I have just finished my balzer resto (or so I thought) I ran it for the first time yesterday and after only a very short time I seem to have stripped the spur gear - doh! My problem is that I have sourced parts from different places for this car and the motor, gearbox and pinion all came from different people. The pinion I have has 10 teeth, is made from steel (should it be brass?) and has a grub screw to secure it to the motor shaft, but only has about 5mm of useable width (teeth)that can be in contact with the spurgear, is this correct? Looking at the spur gear it has stripped but only half way across the gear as this is the maximum I can extend the pinion into the gearbox case before the grub screw fouls the teeth of the spur gear. I have looked through the manual and on the web for photos/diagrams but all seem to show the motor fitted to the gearbox, I did find an exploded diagram (bruiser/mountaineer) of the gearbox but it was not clear on that either. Basically if the pinion is not correct (seems too short) then I need a new pinion and as a result of the damage I now need a new spur gear aswell. If someone could kindly take a photo of the motor/pinion they have fitted to there 'standard' blazer/hilux I would be most greatful. Thanks Karl E-mail - Karl_boak@yahoo.co.uk

Hi all, I have been watching several videos on here involving 3 speeds and the amount of suspension articulation that people seem to have varies. I have nearly finished my blazer resto (never run since I got it) and the leaf spring suspension seems far to stiff, is it possible to fit suspension from other tamiya models to increase the articulation? I don't want to butcher the car to achieve good suspension travel but thought that there maybe a better solution. Any info greatly received. Dangerbus

I have recently got back into Tamiya cars after having many models as a kid. I was amazed at the prices people on ebay were asking. I always wanted a 3 speed truck but with current prices in the hundreds for an example needing some serious tlc I thought I would never get one. I decided to post a wanted ad on my companies internal mail system and with in a day or so, I had a frog, holiday buggy, hornet, all being offered with people only wanting beer money for them or in some cases free! The icing on the cake had to be the blazing blazer, which although had a damaged gearbox was offered for just £5. I hope this reply give you some encouragement to keep looking as there are many places people get rid of these little gems. Keep looking!

Hi, This is my first post as a new member to the club so I hope it's in the correct place! I am restoring a blazer and need to get hold of suitable radio gear to get it running. Can anyone recommend a modern radio set to use so that I can operate the steering, speedo and gears? I was looking at the Futaba skysport 4 as this is a 4 channel affair for surface use only - anyone familiar with this set? Many thanks for any advice given. Cheers Karl
