Yes you can and its as straightforward as Frog Jumper suggests. You don't have to buy the Tamiya parts, Yeah Racing and other cheaper brands also work well. I like the clamping ones as they stay on when you take the wheel off
Have you got a link for the correct clamping ones, Jonathon?

I wish! Rough Rider Christmas '81 or '82.

REX RC's made it look easy on Youtube. Sorry I dont know how to post a link here yet but it appears a straight swap.

I'm starting a Rough Rider replica from a DT-02 Holiday Buggy.
Obviously the dampers need upgrading. Any suggestions as to whats best?
e.g. These any good?
RC Aluminium Oil Front/Rear Damper Shocks Absorber for Tamiya DT-...

Thanks guys. No racing for this one but just wanted to try something thicker to compare to my other builds. Cheers!

Heard thick grease in the standard Tamiya geared diffs are a good improvement. Starting a DT 02 Rough Rider replica over Christmas and wanted to try a thicker grease.
Whats best?

Yes mate, I’m in Gateshead.
There is an indoor winter club meeting at Nissan and an astroturf outdoor track at the same venue for 1/10 off road.
I’ve only been once, wasn’t for me.
I must admit, i just prefer building them these days
Yes, that's my fear. A middle aged bloke turning up with a rere vintage Tamiya. I do miss the old days of racing on grass/mud/dust. BITD it seemed that every other town had some sort of club!

I see your just up the coast. I'm only newly back to this. Where do you run RC in the NE? I've not been on track since'88 and would love to get a bit of casual track time in!

Absolutely beautiful. Good work!!

When you turn the rear wheels, both, by hand does the drive shaft and motor spin?
Yes they do now. Not ran it properly yet but am confident that it was loose ball diffs. I just had not tightened them up sufficiently.

I've lost mine. Before I spend 15 quid on a new D parts set is there any hop up available? Maybe alloy or something. I've fabricated something in the mean time but want something right. Not sure whether something of another chassis might work.

Thanks Andy!

I'm ashamed to say that I've just come back to finishing this build due to other issues and having too much fun with the Blitzer and Hotshot.
I've checked the one way and its right its just nothing else is consistent to the drive to the wheels. On the ground it just like a slipping clutch on a 1/1. I'm convinced I've built the diffs correctly. Is there an idiots guide somewhere on how tight to build the ball diffs?

Just seen this thread. Absolutely brilliant all round. Thanks!!

A large part of my RC journey was an annual weeks holiday over the Mayday Bank Holiday at Primrose Valley, Filey, North Yorkshire when I was a kid. I believe it was organised by MAP (Model & Allied Publications) who produced Model Cars magazine and the car racing side ran by employees Bill Burkinshaw, John Bicknell and Richard, whos surname escapes me.
I attended from around '83 to '88 for a weeks holiday with my parents for racing RC and drinking copious amounts of full fat coke. I have some great memories especially since I lost my dad in '95 to cancer.
I'm aware there's a Facebook group but it appears more recent than my attendance from when I was 11 plus.
Does anyone else have similar memories? We used to race off road in the grass gardens next to the swimming pool catering for 1/10th electric and 1/8th I.C. I used to race electric starting with a Rough Rider, a Mardave Maurauder, an Associated RC10 & finally a PB Mini Mustang which I still have. I remember one year the weather was so bad that the swimming pool garden was waterlogged so we had to use an adjacent patch of grass next to some chalets. Another year I got a *****ing off the caretaker for getting in the swimming pool outside paddling pool with my wellies on!
All sorts of modelling and RC was catered for and there was even a temporary modelshop in a chalet opposite the reception.
Happy days!

Do you any of the indoor electric clubs ever hold events just for vintage owners to parade their models at all?
I have absolutely no idea to be honest. I only got back into RC at the end of last year. Tamiya Junkies is looking interesting for me but not been back on track since around '88!
Luckily I'm 2 mins from the beach so just finishing a Blitzer Beetle for beach bashing. I didn't really want to use HS (or Top Force Evo ReRe I've recently finished) on beach.

Very nice, love the white body and wing, goes really well with the wheels.
is it a runner, or does it live on the shelf?
Well it was meant to be a runner but it hasn't done many miles over the winter! I just wish there were more places for a middle-aged bloke to run them round here!

Love a HS thread. Its what got me back into the hobby. I got my original from P&S models in Scarborough August 1985. Wish I still had it but at least have an ReRe now.

RC-related things you'd love to do (but probably won't)

Just would love to get back on track for the first time in around 35 years. Just for a go. Preferably old school grass!
