Standard Shock Springs On Hicaps?
AndyB_Evo1411 replied to GTodd's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I know this is a bit of a thread revival, but which LOSI springs do I need to buy to fit with HiCaps on a Top force? Is it their 12mm ones for the LOSI22? Or the ones for the Mini-B? Or the ones for the Min-T? Or some other ones I cant find!! Thanks Andy -
True they are not fully adjustable as there isn’t a spring like on the Schumacher ones & the Egress Rere ones. On initial build you have a bit of scope to tighten screw MA3 to the desired setting but careful not to overtighten as sosidge said.

I know this link is for a Schumacher ball diff but the final assembly & tightness check from 13:30 onward is pretty spot on. Trish knows his stuff. https://youtu.be/wiG8_osS3f8

Hobbywing V10 G3 or Reedy Sonic 540 M4
AndyB_Evo1411 replied to AndyB_Evo1411's topic in All things electric...
Fair point, got the Reedy Sonic wired up ready for testing now. Will see how that goes for now. -
Got to make a decision between a Hobbywing V10 G3 8.5T or a Reedy Sonic 540 M4 8.5T motor for running at my local track. I bought a Reedy Sonic while on holiday, but picked up the Hobbywing as part of a combo with an XR10 pro ESC, so planning to use one and then sell the other. Any views on what one to keep and what one to sell? I had thought to keep and run the Reedy Sonic as they have been in the motor building game for decades, while Hobbywing seem to be the electronics kings.
-
So is the consensus to sell up & look at something newer & more durable? XRAY XB4 or Cat L1 Evo?
-
I honestly thought they were in the USA. 😂Looks like all of the big online suppliers are HK based then. Hmm, will rethink that plan. Fusion Hobbies are showing the DB01 Reinf M parts coming back in stock on 8th March so I was getting g hopeful this was signs it was a global supply issue soon to be resolved. Guess time will tell & will just get what I can.

I know this is an old thread but felt I should reply here to keep the chat together. I’m in the process of building up a DB01 with some upgrades with a view to attempt racing it at club level with a 5.5T brushless setup. I have already purchased: 850 bearings x4 for steering; Hex wheel adapters for rear; 54015 - DB01 Front UJs; 54018 - DB01 slipper clutch; 53926 - DF03 Alu Dampers (option for DB01); 53967 - TRF501 Belt tensioners; 950 bearings for tensioner; I am planning to order the following from RC Mart when in USA in April. (There are 4 items out if stock but hoping that changes) 50994 - Metal Suspension Balls; 54016 - DB01 rear UJs; OOS 54034 - DB01 Reinf. Front Caster block; OOS 54036 - DB01 Reinf. M Parts; OOS 54140 - Reinforced belts x 2; 54148 - DB01 alloy steering posts; OOS 51311 - DB01 Front Sus Arms (as spares); 51308 - DB01 Front Uprights (as spares); So I have 2 questions? 1) Are the alu suspension parts worth the cost if I fit the carbon reinforced parts? ie Will the carbon Reinf parts be strong enough, therefore making the alu parts just for bling? 2) Any other hop ups I should consider?

It really shouldn’t do that after 2 runs so, if you bought it from a good dealer you may be looking for an exchange.

Sounds like the bearings are binding on the shaft. Can you move the motor shaft back & forth at all. There should be around 1mm end float on it. Also can you take the end bell off & check if the rotor turns within the can ok?

New member...my small Tamiya collection pics
AndyB_Evo1411 replied to Scoob45's topic in General discussions
Welcome Scoob45. When I was a kid, my friend got a Madcap for his Christmas one year and that's what got us all started in the Tamiya RC buggy scene!! The TXT-2 looks huge compared to the buggies. How do you find the TORO 120TS ESC? Just interested in some feedback before buying one. -
I found one of these…. 27T stock with 36deg timing. Is this the kind of thing you were after? Reedy Conquest 27T Stock Brass Bushed 24372rpm @ 36deg (fixed factory timing) Very impressed for a 27T motor. Info on this bad boy is here. http://oldrc.com/download/reedy-catalog-1998.pdf

Brushless gets expensive if you go for the top end stuff. £130 -£200 for a top sensored ESC with all the toys & then £50-£100 for a similar spec sensored motor. Of course you can get cheaper ones but even then you can be £80 for a reasonable branded combo. £24 for those LRP motors (cheaper if you just go silver can) & £20 for a Hobbywing 1060 ESC you can get going a lot CHEAPER on a brushed setup. Also quite a good idea on vintage cars with no slipper too as the brushes motors don’t generate the same torque.

Sorry just I see you used to run an LRP 12x2 last year, so you’ve been there & done that already.

This could be worth a punt. 12Tx2. Might need a refurb though. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lesro-Infinity-12x2-540-Motor-Working-/224638612240?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Also a 13Tx3 in this auction. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brushed-Vintage-Motors-rc-reedy-lemans-infinity-/284655429717?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Or go new and pick up one of these. https://www.racing-cars.com/electrics/motors-brushes=brushed/lrp-v10-spec6-14-x-2-brushed-motor-lrp57146?returnurl=%2felectrics%2fmotors-brushes%3dbrushed%2f
