I do not know what the kit ones were, since the previous owner has mounted all the blue bling from YR in the world. The ones which came mounted on the car were 21mm end to end. The short ones I have mounted now are 14mm. The shock parts pack I have bought also included a set of 18mm eyelets. The latter is probably a good compromize for all conditions I would drive in, but I want to try the shortest together with the new tarmac tires for now.

Despite signs of use and wear it is nice. Park Green is pretty close to Emerald Greeen from the 1:1 version and that is as right as can be in my eyes.

Out of curiousity I got up early and mounted what could be the next Racing by post-setup. It's no groundbreaking stuff. I just got a package of shock -parts the other day, so tried out the shortest eyelets. If it's too low i will just go up one size. This is going the opposite direction compared to other XV-01 -owners, but for postal racing on tarmac I do'nt need that tall rideheight. With more grip it would griproll more anyway. It feels something like my M-05 now, which is not a bad thing.

Finally it was possible to get the Thunder Dragon around the corners. It improved by a massive 9 laps, only 2 laps short of the Lancia. Not bad for a buggy with such a soft setup. No wonder that Ferruz is doing so well with the more high end version. The phone just would turn itself off, so no pick of the Thunder Dragon wearing the Grasshornet body and doing donuts on tarmac.

In the last couple of weeks I have focused on running the Lancia. I have run on tarmac under different conditions from dry tarmac with increasing snow, damp with patches of snow and ice, wet and this week I finally got two days with dry conditions and could max out my lapcount. I gotta say this has been a tricky one, but I finally found some sort of rythm and is satisfied with the result. Today is my last chance and I do'nt think the surface has dried up since yesterdays rain. The Lancia stays fresh and cleaned on the workbench and the Thunder Dragon gets it's chance to improve its until now rather miserable lapcount.

New kicks for the M-05 Golf and the XV-01 Lancia. Shimizu in medium and soft compound and some Ride tarmac spes. Focus on Postal Racing .

Congrats the completition. It looks stunning. I see there is a nicer stance with this body compared to mine (which I think must be a Killerbody). Now go enjoy .

I have had the same experience as Jonathon with stripping grub screws. They all were from the 5 pack from Surpass. Quick fixed with one from a cheeze pinion. The one I have from Yeah Racing (looks exactly the same as mentioned) had a good grub screw.

Congrats with the completition of your first kit. I wish you happy times with that clever, little car. It is great fun and when you mark up a course it is super addictive to chase the ideal line and try to go so consistent as possible lap after lap. I see you run the Torque Tuned motor, which is a good choice. If you have not got a steel pinion by now I would get one soon. And I would stick to 20t.

Not today, but on Sunday I rebuilt the BZ-motor, so it is now ready to move into the XV-01 again when spring comes and it dries up.

@SlideWRX. I have been thinking about spikes for buggy tires since my teens. Have never seen any, but have thought that cut down nails for roofing felt may do . In the last weeks i have had many attempts an variable conditions. On two occations I have had wet tarmac and dry with patches of wet and/or ice. Last week I have only ran the Lancia, since I got fed up by the understeer of the Tomahawk and I think I have reached the maximum on gravel with the Grasshornet. The brushes in the BZ in the Lancia wore down, so the last week I ran the 17t YR in the Lancia. No surprice it ran too hot for my taste, but the somewhat lower perfomance did good, so now I have soldered up a Torque Tuned with 5mm bullets for this week. I 'm starting to get a sort of rythm here, but this is a tricky course for a resurposed, half old basher. At least I know where to go on the course by now.

Congrats with a top result. The looks and the technical solutions are top notch, as always. Cannot wait for the first driving impressions on proper ground.

Good and the clever mod. I think I'll copy that on the Terra Scorcher for the kids. The OE servo saver is not surpricingly sloppy.

Yeah Racing, LRP, Gool RC, Kyosho, Reedy is the first that fall into my head. The Yeah Racing and Gool RC appair to be the same motor with different sticker. I have a couple of the Yeah Racing Hackmoto and they are good for the cost. The Yeah Racing 23T is allthough not so agile as a Tamiya SS, but adjusting the timing helps. Here in Norway you get almost 3 YR for one SS, so good value if you ask me.

@Ferruz. I'm with Re-Bugged regarding not painting the undertray. The paint will also chip when using pressurized air. I see that on the painted tub cover of my Thunder Dragon. When driven on gravel or dirt the outside will be matte soon, so painted or not does not matter.

This looks really nice. I love the retro looks and the fact that it looks like a real thing made on the planet Earth. Thank you, Tamiya!! I wish they had something like this in their lineup when I returned to the hobby in 2020. Then it would have been a nobrainer.

It's been a produktive weekend. Yesterday I mounted the wider Turbo Scorpion front axle and steering rods on the Tomahawk. Today I have rebuilt the TZ-motor and broken it in again. The brushes do not last that long in these. Not near the Yeah Racing Hackmoto.

This is looking more and more good. Looking forward to read about the first driving Impressionen. Enjoy the last stages of the build.

I got to make a few more stints yesterday. The receiver in the Grasshornet was playing me games, so I took the Tomahawk out instead. Already on the first attempt it was on par with the Thunder Dragon. After one pack it had improved with 3 laps. There is room for more, as even the best /less worst stint was way off clean. The Thunder Dragon did not work good at all. It simply does not have enough steering lock for this track and with the TT it lacks the power to spin around the markers with a blip on the throtle. Yesterday it was only -2C (on Friday it was -10C), but today it will be over 0C, which is not good. The ice will still not melt more than slightly. This means the surface first will be wet and when the temperature goes down again in the coming weekend the surface will be polished. I hope for more hoar frost on top, so there is some grip to be found. I ran the Hopper body on the Thunder Dragon, because I like having a proper buggy from the planet Earth next to my dear Tomahawk.

I agree with you that Schumacher full spike and Mini spike are more or less THE tires for low grip conditions. After trying different tires bought on clear out sales on the Tomahawk I have come to that I wear out one set of each of the two Schumacher-tires pr season. That is when I use them more or less only for postal racing. When they are not grippy enough they can be used for bashing. Halfway worn down Mini Spikes are superb for the Grasshornet on astro, if I feel for running it there. With your BL motor you probably wear out at a more frequent rate than I do.

Hehe. This course is hefty and by far the most intricate we have had so far. It is hard just to remember where to go, but I have only done 6 stints so far. It is just to take it as learning and enjoy the time. Two things contributed to massive improvement for me in 2022. I bought flat markers and I got the M-05 that I bought already in 2013 built and ready (today I would probably have got an M-07 though). With flat markers it was no more cones flying around in the wind, no flipping of the car when you missed the line and if I drove over a marker I could just keep on in the rythm. With 210 mm wheelbase the car is super nimble and could approuch the corners in a different way than I was used to with buggys. So there is a bright future with the M-08R finished .

This buggy is so sexy. I feel just so excited about this as I was after ordering the Tomahawk and was waiting for it to arrive. I think this could be a good postal racer and a nice step into the brushless world for me. And might just put the dream about an Optima Mid /Turbo Optima on ice even longer. It is also a good opportunity to get RB5 parts. I am looking forward to get RB5 knuckles for the Tomahawk like Siang20 did some years ago. It will be nice to have a front end with less slop again.

Made a couple of trips to Mugello in winter conditions on Thursday and Friday. Gotta say this track is complex. I had for the first time to paint up the lines. Not to run the ideal line (on these conditions the line is random and the question is more to go on the correct side of the marker) but more to have the slightest chance to remember where to go. I have painted the track up on a remote spot which had the snow cleared off on Thursday. That day we had 0C, so it was wet and just frustrating. I drove the Thunder Dragon and thought I should try fitting the 380 into the Grasshornet again. On Friday we had -6C so the track was hard and partially icy. I had also changed the TZ-motor for a Torque Tuned. Because of the ice the whole thing is controlled chaos. I drove three stints with each car and got some sort of rythm. The Grasshornet finished only one lap short of the Thunder Dragon. The latter is extremely hard to get around the tightest bends. I drive more over marker 5 with it than around it. For Monday I will change for a normal Silver can in the Grasshornet and fit the Scorpion rear wheels. The course is bumpy because of tire tracks from machines with the Hornet rear tires. The Scorpion ones are softer and make the ride smoother. But we'll see. This is going to be the bottom of the board anyway.

Now that is a proper 2wd buggy. Would be a nice next step for me, when I want a rear motor 2wd without quarky front suspension and loads of slop. Good to see it has longitudinal battery mount. Looking forward for it to be Angebot der Woche at Tamico some time in the future. Then the money will burn in the pocket. Hmm. If I paint it orange metallic and fit JC Racing Ultima wheels it would look like the Tomahawk for the rest of the household.

Today I got a new 10 pack with flat markers, so I have enough to mark up the current Postal Racing track. Sadly they are not longer of the same quality as the ones I've got. They are thinner and lighter, so it better not be to windy. A nice thing is that they have replaced purple with orange.
