  1. Thanks for the replies. 👍 I plan to head to the circuit later today to confirm what motor can be run. I'm probably going to go with either the Dirt Tune or GT (whichever is permitted) for the extra torque and better cooling. The rules also state that you can run a different machine in each round, so I'm planning to prep three machines - the Genova, Dirt Master and S1 RM. The plan is to compete with a different buggy in each round to keep things interesting. CoreRC are not very common over here and the track I run at prefers to spec "slower" motors for the races (usually silver cans). But while the speeds might not be so high, the races are no less fun. Nevertheless, it would be good to use a motor with a built in fan! We have to build custom mounts to install them on the DT-02 and Grasshopper.
  2. Thanks for the responses! I'm a huge fan of the Kyosho Legendary series and it would be great to run a Turbo Scorpion or Tomahawk. But they aren't really suited to indoor high grip carpet tracks. Likewise, I love the looks of the BBX, the Blitzer and Wild One. It would be great to see them out on the track, but perhaps not the best choice for racing. I'm leaning towards the Dirt Master, Genova or S1 RM. What about motor? The regulations are either 540 silver can, OP.68 Sport Tune or Dirt tune. (I need to clarify the race regulations, as the text states "Dirt Tune" but the item code given is OP.779, which is the GT Tune.) According to Tamiya's website, here's how they stack up: Sports Tune 23T 350gf・cm and 18300rpm @ 7.2V GT Tune 25T 500gf・cm and 19,000rpm @ 7.2V Dirt Tune 27T 37.24mN・m and 17,000rpm @ 7.2V The latter two also have the benefit of replaceable brushes. What's would you consider more important - turn, torque or rpm?
  3. I'm after some ideas for what to run in a new race series being held at my local indoor, off-road carpet track. If you're familiar with my channel you'll know I raced in both the DT-02/03 and TT-02B Race series last year. This year a new race series will be held and these are the regulations. 🤗 Must be RWD with the motor mounted behind the rear axle. Must use the kit supplied body, gearbox and spur. Must use either a Sport Tune or Dirt Tune motor Gear ratio must be 8.0:1 or above. Control tires are Tamiya Square Pin Spike front and rear. Aside from that, new or old anything goes! A few notes about the races. Small(ish) indoor high grip carpet track, narrow lanes, jumps and banks. Races are generally 3 to 5 laps and points are awarded depending on finishing order. Death Match style rules. There are NO MARSHALS. Flip over or get stuck and you're out! Some of the "suggested" chassis include the DT-03, Wild One, Blitzer Beetle, BBX, Ultima, Turbo Scorpion, Dirt Master and Genova. (based on what is commonly run at my track, the latter two will likely be the most popular choice.) I'm not very competitive and I enjoy racing just for the fun of it. Nevertheless, I took 2nd place overall in the TT-02B Cup and I'll admit it's nice to cap of a fun nights' racing stood on a podium. 😁 So if you were in it to win it, what would you run and why? (Here are some links to our recent races)
  4. So far no word on spares for the 870c here in Japan. I doubt they’d release a buggy without parts support, but until I can order spares (if needed) it is making me hesitant to run the 870c on the track!
  5. Blue is the best color for the Tomahawk! (I may be biased ) And I thought I was addicted to the Legendary series, with about 15 kits in total! 😅 But you've taken it to the next level! Quite the collection! 👍🤩
  6. It’s due here in Japan on the 15th. I’m not in any hurry to build it. Still haven’t built my JJ Ultima! 😅 Next build for me will be the Super Dogfighter. 👍
  7. The G15 is a sealed motor, much like the 540 silver can. It is now discontinued though, so finding one could be difficult. For the money they are plenty fast. I run one on my Javelin. Another cheap option is the G2X or G20 motor. It's slower at 20T, but with the right gearing isn't too bad. Another option is Kyosho's G14 Single. It's a 550 motor, but *should* fit in the Optima. (I've not tried though).
  8. Another +1 for the Le Mans 490 and Hobbywing 1060 combo. Perfect fit for the Tomahawk, just the right amount of power and the motor suits the look of the buggy. I use this combo in all of mine: Tomahawk, Scorpion, Beetle and Turbo Scorpion.
  9. I painted my PR Racing in JJ Ultima colors and it came out looking pretty good. I find the colors and design make it easier to see on the track. Though I used pearl white instead of PS1. Still haven’t got around to building my JJ Ultima, yet! Hopefully I can find the time to get it done before the Super Dog Fighter and WC Worlds Spec Mid arrive in December!
  10. Thanks! It was a fantastic day out. I got to chat with a lot of really nice people. And thank you for supporting my little channel on YouTube!
  11. Well after seeing one in person this weekend, talking with Kogawa San and watching him drive it on a track I've made my mind up! I Ordered one.👍😁 I probably won't even try to match the green paint, so it won't be box art, but that's cool. There were several JJ Ultimas at the event too and not all of them were done box art. I attended Kyosho's Vintage Meet here in Japan this past weekend. I have a video up on my channel. If you're into vintage buggies, it might well be worth your time. (shameless plug😅)
  12. Exactly! Snapshot_rccars on Instagram posted this from the manual, so I guess that's all the info we have. I don't have an air brush (or the skill necessary to get good results with one) so my best effort would be to try combining cans of Tamiya PS paint in the hopes of getting a match. I estimated my chances of a successful result to be slim to none! 😅
  13. I'm really on the fence with this one too, but in all probability I'll just pass. Mostly because as it's a replica, it makes sense to paint it in the correct colors. I'm not a fan of the mint green! And it seems replicating the exact color to match the wheels could be quite tricky. Quote from Kyosho's instructions: "Approx blending ratio of Peppermint green = White: 70% + Green: 30% + Blue: Few drops (use water based lexan paint)." In my case, I'm sure I'd screw its up! 😅
  14. I tried running a Sport Tune with the standard gearing 6.9:1 in my Beetle (essentially the same buggy) but the motor ran too hot for my liking. The kit includes a second pinion/spur combo that brings the gearing up to somewhere around 8:1 or memory serves. Might be worth testing that out. A heatsink would help to keep things cool. Be aware there is a cage that protects the motor and it might limit where you could attach the heatsink.
  15. Thank you for sharing your build with us. I'm also in the process of putting together a BBX. As I *may* run it on an indoor carpet track (and because I hate ball diffs) I've also gone with the gear diff upgrade, along with the slipper clutch. By the way, it seems Tamiya made a mistake on the instructions for the slipper. One of the flanged tubes is shown being in the wrong direction. Caught quite a few people out over here. Someone contacted Tamiya directly and they acknowledged it is a mistake. Looking forward to seeing your completed BBX. 👍
  16. @Willy iine @toyolien Thanks for the kind words and positive feedback. RC has been a passion of mine, like many others on here, since childhood. I enjoy making the videos I put out, but I know that they won't be to everyone's taste. For me, my channel is purely about sharing my passion with others. Hopefully some will find it entertaining and maybe even useful. @finder75 I don't think anyone took your comments personally. You quite rightly noted it's impossible to please everyone all the time!
  17. @Rinskie, @Pablo68, @_Ben_, @Misterp180, @Saito2 Thank you all for the kind words. I'm really glad people find value in my content. I'm often in two minds whether to publish a video as I tend to be overly self critical and worry that the video I'm about to put out isn't good enough in some way. Tamiya USA and Tamiyainc Youtube channels are fun to watch and have some great content. However, I can't help but feel if they'd done the BBX promo video in the retro 80's style manner, even more people would watch and enjoy it.
  18. *looks around nervously* Interesting thread. I have my own little YouTube channel that started out purely for a way to share my builds with my brother back home in the UK. Though I must admit, wanting to recreate the Tamiya promo videos I grew up watching was part of the reason I started shooting running videos. When I began, I didn’t have any plans to do anything but pure running videos, after receiving so many comments asking how I filmed my running videos I decided to take the plunge and make a video explaining my shooting techniques. And it went on from there... Few thoughts. Long intros…Hmm. Guilty, on occasion. I’m not a fan on intros myself, but they can sometimes serve a purpose. I felt a short 10 second montage of my running videos showing the kinds of RC featured on my channel could be beneficial. Though I tend only to use them on a video that I suspect will attract many first-time viewers. As for rushing to put out content, for me, not really. Despite being based in Japan we are typically a month or more behind when it comes to Tamiya releases.. So there’s little point!! Plus I don’t do YouTube for the views, subs and certainly not for the money! The only time I kinda rushed to put something out was the recent Kyosho Dirt Master release. That said, if you're a proper "YouTuber" making a living off YouTube, then I can see why you feel the need to get a video out as quickly as possible. Views are money after all. I agree,. AFAIK no Japanese YouTubers are ever given a kit in advance from Tamiya Japan for the purposes of reviewing it on YouTube. Some are given the chance to see/drive a new kit before its official release, but that's about it.
  19. UMB52 is the number you're looking for. (Ultima SB Dirt Master Non Decoration Body Set)
  20. Thanks! 😊 Kyosho's manuals can at times be a little cryptic and their translations sometimes not quite right! 😁 With the LA43H/R, you are correct. You can either have red, or hard. But not both. I had no idea the 240S was discontinued! 😩 I was thinking to use one in an up-coming Dirt Master build. I hope they replace it with something similar. (I like the fact it doesn't need a cooling fan) You've assembled quite a selection of option parts! 👍 I was tempted by a lot of those myself, especially the carbon. But ended up putting the funds towards other kits. It does look great when complete though - by chance someone brought in a freshly build Mid with full carbon options to the circuit my local circuit the other day. It looked 😎 And fingers crossed Kyosho release another buggy in the Legendary Series line up!
  21. I'll try and answer a few. OWT125B are not discontinued. Kyosho recently ran a batch off, but they sold out in like a day. You've got to be quick to get them! I replaced UT019 with BRG007F. OTW143 does include the flanged bearings. AFAIK BRG002 are sold in a pack of four, but you only need two. UM516 slipper pads are better for higher powered motors. They should last longer and stand up to more abuse. LA43H/R are stronger than the stock ones. You can use them with the W0201H balls. Personally I find the stock ones strong enough. Hope that helps!
  22. If you could only keep one RC. Everything else had to go. Everything! 😱 Gone for good. What would you choose and why? Just curious! Me? I thought about it. As I like to run my RC's, so it would have to be something I can get parts for. Something fun, something that I could run just about anywhere. Hmm. 🤔 I'd keep my Terra Scorcher. One of my first RC's as a kid. But what would you keep?
  23. I use a G15 in my Javelin and it's pretty quick, as Nova1 said on a par with a Superstock and a pretty good performer given its price. My Optima runs a G2X but it's a little slow for the Kyosho 4WD buggies. For the 2WDs I run the Le Mans 490 in my Scorpion, Turbo Scorpion and Tomahawk which although 30T, is quite fast given the standard gearing. My Beetle runs a Sport Tune, but it runs a little hot, so I guess the gearing isn't ideal. My Ultima has a G15 too, and it flies! 🙂
  24. The Mid shares many parts with the re-released Optima/Turbo Optima and Javelin. There are however some subtle differences, swing arms being one of them! I recommend you check out the detailed article recently posted on https://theoptimahouse.blogspot.com. The interview with Akira Kogawa on Feb 14th has the info you need. Hope that helps! Oh, and check out my YouTube channel - I have already posted a couple of running videos with the newly built Mid. 😁👍
  25. Thanks for the responses. Your help is very much appreciated 👍
