I know it's not Tamiya, or even surface RC, but today I maidened my Carl Goldberg Electra. I learned to fly on one of these back in the mid-90s. My instructor made me learn on and solo his old Electra before he'd even let me touch my fancy nitro trainer, saying he was 'teaching me to fly the wing, not the motor'.
After all these years I decided to build my own. It's built per the plans with an Astroflight Geared 05, a 12x8 folding prop, 2s 2200MAh lipo and HS-81 servos. The plan originally called for an all-up weight of 48 ounces (with a 6-cell 1300MAh NiCD, RX battery, full-size servos and a 550 motor with an on/off switch toggled by a 3rd servo). With modern electronics and built mostly with Titebond II, it came in at 24 ounces. HALF the original AUW!
Flies beautifully! Couldn't be happier.
