  1. Rubbish. The re-release boom got me back into the hobby, so much so that I am now collecting all of the great new modern stuff too. I bet there are hundreds, maybe thousands like me in the same position too. I reckon the company must be going through a boom period similar to the mid 1980's to be prepared to go ahead with something that no-one ever imagined they would.
  2. I agree, it's such a lame name, and didn't The Frog have a different name in Japan yet they re-released it worldwide as The Frog? This is one thing that will definitely please the owners of the original NIBs I guess as the blister packs on this release take it dangerously close to near identical on initial appearance.
  3. The re-release Brat came with Sand Blaster tyres didn't it?
  4. That is a thing of beauty. I have to have three of these, and that will be the first time I've done that with any Tamiya model.
  5. Thought I'd bump this for a chuckle too, now that the "dream" has happened in reality. For all of those who were not around these parts in 2005, this "wind-up" thread gives you an idea of how big a deal it is that the SRB is getting a full and unmodified re-release. Alright it's not the Scorcher but the principle remains the same if you read through the thread! Some people almost put their NIBs on ebay before they "lost" any value. You were right Mr Shopkeeper. Just a year and half more than you estimated eh?
  6. Maybe your right, but I doubt it somehow. I think it's just a case of researching what the vintage collectors want, making sure there are no licensing & production issues and then finding the right window of opportunity to release it. I'm sure they would just offload all of the 1980's stuff all at once if they thought they could get away with it but that would do a lot of damage to the brand as they would look rather desperate. Instead they carefully plant the odd re-re here and there in amongst all the latest high tech stuff and it is clearly reaping a reward for them.
  7. Read pages 8 & 9. Practically everything that I said with regard to a Rough Rider re-release is about to come true. Wish I could predict lottery numbers as well. I did have 4 numbers on Friday's £110m Euromillions draw.....and won £19.
  8. So you are saying that Tamiya dont believe there is a market for a Monster Beetle re-release? If they read these forums regularly (and we are led to believe that they do) they will clearly know that is not the case.
  9. *Bump* Sorry to gloat...but clearly Mr Tamiya was reading this thread when I was posting on it.
  10. Finally, FINALLY this one can be put to bed. I mean in the 5 years I've been on here it is without a doubt the most debated subject. All I can say is there are a lot of people who will have to eat humble pie this week. There have been some crazy statements over the years why a SRB re-release would be impossible......"they cant make it because it's metal" or "it would cost £500" or "if the Japanese dont want it then it wont happen"....are some of the common views voiced here over the years. Well lo and behold here we are in the middle of a chronic recession and they go and re-re it in near completely original form and it will cost less than £200. The only thing I think they have got wrong is the timing. This should have been done 2 years ago when the value of the dollar was low. I accept that the 30 year anniversary is a major factor in this though. It's incredible that they are manufacturing a completely new battery for this model. I've always expected a re-re but not with this much attention to detail. I mean, blisters for crying out loud! Talk about retro heaven! Once again we have clear evidence that the coffee pot minis promotion was a huge to us in what they were planning. Only the Astute to go now from that promotion. I fully expect the FAV & Wild One to get a re-re sometime within the next 18 months. Possibly the Fox too. I highly doubt we will see the Scorcher or F150 coming back though. It's nearly 4 years since Tamiya re-released the Frog and we still have not seen the Monster Beetle or Blackfoot and I think it's safe to say we never will either. I'll happily be proven wrong though. One thing I'm surprised about is why this subject has not developed into a 20+ page thread? A few years ago the board went into meltdown when Netsmith posted his SRB re-re wind up...today we have a 7 page thread after 4 days. Are people losing interest?
  11. I bought a Subaru Brat from their online store a couple of months ago. It arrived in good time but on opening the exterior cardboard box I discovered the Tamiya box lid was ripped in several places. I was not impressed at all with that and was sorely tempted to fire off an email of complaint. I also bought a Hotshot direct from the Newcastle store and it wasn't until I got the kit home that I realised the price tag had been carelessly ripped from the box lid, meaning it had pulled off the actual print from the box art too. These might seem like petty complaints but having a new kit come in immaculate box is a big part of the Tamiya experience for many enthusiasts.
  12. No big deal, I was just a bit disappointed cos I thought I'd missed a chance to enter.
  13. Now now, no need for sarcasm. The fact of the matter is that the line "The competition is now closed to entries and voting is open" is clearly untrue and misleading. Surely it should should say "You must be a subscriber to enter this competition" And voting has not actually started yet has it?
  14. After this line..."If you entry is removed you will be welcome to enter a different photo.".....just above all of the entries. And I also see none of this text...."How to enter? If you wish to enter click below and you will be taken to your showroom to make your entry. You will then be taken to your showroom. When viewing items in their showrooms subscribers will then have the option of adding a model to the competition. Easy I understand and wish to enter" I think I know why this is happening though...my subscription has ran out and I'm about to renew it. Do non members see a different page?
  15. The last piece of text says..."The competition is now closed to entries and voting is open"...???
  16. Erm, why does it say the competition is now closed when we have until January 31st to enter?
  17. Cheers for the reply TWINSET, however that sounds like a good explanation of what happens when the seller is a fraudster.....but what about when the buyer is the fraudster? ie if I am paid from a stolen card, but transfer the funds into my bank before the bad card is discovered, can the money be taken out of my bank account by anyone?
  18. Apart from body and wheels, are there any parts extra you need to convert a Frog to a Brat? Might just be cheaper to buy a Frog than go hunting down a Brat for OTT money.
  19. For a while now while selling items on ebay I have stated that I would send the item to the winning bidder once the PayPal payment has transferred into my high street bank account, which takes 5 working days. I started to do this because I was sure I had read on these forums cases where people have had money taken back off them by PayPal when they were paid by a fraudulent credit card. I have just had an email from a prospective buyer categorically stating that is not the case and that PayPal dont have any right to do this. Can someone clear this up for me once and for all? Did I read correctly on here or have I just imagined it?
  20. Interesting that you should say that as I spoke to the guy at Models in Motion this morning who are offering the Boomerang at 91 on pre-order. When I asked him if he expected the actual price to be higher he said no, he speaks with his Tamiya rep every day and they fully expect the Boomer to sell at around the 90 mark.
  21. Wow, what trouble I had finding a Hotshot in stock. Time Tunnel, Fusion, Models in Motion plus a host of others are all sold out. I was panicing as I needed to have one before next week. Lo and behold after all the searching on the net I found one....the LAST one in stock at my LHS, Modelzone and only for a fiver more than I would pay on the net. Seems like the 'Shot (and other re-re's maybe?) are proving popular over Xmas. Has anyone else had trouble getting a kit at the last minute before this Xmas when they thought it would be no trouble at all?
  22. But regardless of whether they are guessing, they seem to have offered the kit at 91 regardless? And with the ESC included too.
  23. On the Boomerang thread someone has posted the link to these guys offering the Boomerang for 91... http://www.modelsinmotion.co.uk/product.as...&tamiya=268 ...but I notice that you are predicting your price to be around 130. Have you overestimated or are these guys able to offer the Boomer for such a low price for a particular reason?
  24. pauljking yeah? On a different note I notice your not selling any of the Hotshot gold wheels at the moment. Any news on if/when you will be doing some more?
