Surely with the Hotshot re-re, the Boomerang & Super Sabre can't be far behind ? Lots of shared parts - Gearbox, front and rear suspension arms.
Will we see a Bigwig re-re for its 25th anniversary ?
Would really like to see the Sand Rover & Holiday Buggy re-re'd too - nice simple kits suitable for both the new R/C modeller and the nostalgic enthusiast !
Yeah the Boomerang seems a logical choice. It was the best developed of the 'Shot series cars and was hugely popular. The Super Sabre was a sales flop so I doubt whether we will see that re-re'd. I hope not...it's ugly!
Bigwig? Very unlikely. It was the 10th anniversary car and Tamiya would not want to contaminate that legacy. It also has lots of unique parts that are unable to be used on other cars.
Also highly doubt we will see the Supershot. The fact that Tamiya have made a point of changing the re-re Hotshot box art to white wheels tells me that the company have no intention of reproducing Supershot parts. Hope I'm wrong though!

Hornet, 'hopper, Lunchie, T'Shot, T-Force & Brat.
I have an innumerable amount of old & new Hotshot parts so am struggling to justify buying the re-re. However I DO want to see what the new dampers are like and whether the front suspension slop has been improved. Is that reason enough?

Anyone got an educated (or even ignorant) guess what the next re-release will be, or for that matter, if there will be any more? I got burned recently - I restored a Hotshot I at quite considerable cost, and literally weeks after I finished, the re-release was announced! So, rather than hoping for something to be re-released, I'm wondering what vintage Tamiya I could restore without having my thunder stolen, and without feeling like I wasted my money. I'm thinking Porsche 959. Surely too complicated/costly to justify a resurection?
Do a search for the 'coffee pot minis' promotion that Tamiya did a couple of years ago...or just look here http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...42180&id=16 ...It featured a variety of miniatures of some of the vintage R/Cs. Nearly all of them from that promo have had the full size car re-released (Hotshot being the latest). The only ones from that promo that have yet to see a re-re are the Boomerang, Astute and Rough Rider.
I'd say expect a full Boomerang re-re, an Astute 2 (similar design principle to the Avante 2007....old bodyshell on modern chassis) and a modernised SRB along the lines of the way the Hi-Lift recreated the spirit of the Toyota Bruiser.
Of course there have been other re-releases not related to the coffee pot promo (Lunch Box and Subaru Brat) so other re-releases could be in the pipeline. My guess would be FAV, Wild One, Monster Beetle and Blackfoot.

Front bumper is hard plastic and better than the Hotshot one...
Hmm, dunno about that Terry. The Boomerang bumper is the same as that of the Bigwig and I well remember the head on collision I had with a Hotshot on driving my 'Wig.....resulting in smashed to smithereens bumper and front wishbones. The Hotshot was barely scratched!
Rear uprights are known for being fragile, the plastic seems too brittle for the part and they do crack. Unfortunately they aren't the same as the Hotshot so you will be stuck looking for original Boomerang parts. Rear wishbones are also known to break. They are also the same part as those used on the Hotshot 2 & Super Sabre, albeit in a different colour. Probably no stronger though but at least you have a wider scope of replacement parts to chose from!

Ouch! $219 (roughly 115) makes these the most expensive re-re yet.
Just done a quick compare of Jason's prices with those of Stella. I think Stella will probably offer the Hotshot for approximately $190 all in.

Wont be long now, released Mid July !
Hmm, that's interesting...does that mean that the box art will now feature white wheels? If so then I think you can forget about the gold wheels being available as hop-ups....

The rules are clear enough and you just have to look at the proportionally small number of items that we delete to show that the majority of users understand them.
Basically entries have to be RC hobby, Tamiya, model related - the exception being real cars which can be allowed to stand as long as they are classed as 'real/car reference' when they are entered. Not sure how it can be set out any clearer, there are always going to be borderline areas as there is with any rule (although I'm open to suggestions for changes to it, if someone can think of a way that makes its more black and white) - those borderline cases we have to take a view on. Obvious things which don't fall into the category and we have had to delete in the past include, bikes, skateboards, drums, pictures of families, rocking chairs and cuckoo clocks - most of which received some positive comments.
Positive comments in themselves though does not justify an item being there, with a userbase of 16,000 people a day you could probably post a picture of anything and someone would find it interesting, but you only have to imagine if everyone started posting everything that they personally found interesting the showroom and site would then soon becoming less useful to the majority (even those posting the images) as they have to wade through countless random things to find what this site is really about - RC related material.
If you think the area is grey now, imagine how grey it becomes when we allow the posting of cycles - how do we tell people with scooters, unicycles, space hoppers etc that theirs can't stand? Bottom line is we are not a generic photo hosting site and the line has to be drawn somewhere.
With nearly a quarter of million entries over 6 years and only 4 mods, you are always going to be able to find exceptions that get missed. They change nothing as far as the rules go - all they mean is that the mods missed them and no-one reported them (on the really old ones you list I don't think we even had a reporting system)
We understand the ones that got left can cause confusion, which is why we never come down hard on anyone that does it now but placing accounts on moderation, its a genuine mistake to make and we are just pointing it out. Its not personal for us and we hope its not taken personally.
We even provide alternatives for the people that want to post pictures of other stuff. There is both TCphotos.com and the outside world forum.
Cheers
Chris
Fair enough Chris, thanks for the response.

...and the forthcoming re-re does not seem to be affecting old stock kit prices either.

Amazing what some people will pay for a couple of blister packs......

Looks like the prices of the old hop ups for the Hotshot will now start going through the roof as it doesn't look like Tamiya will reproduce them.

Not so long ago these could be bought for an average price of 25!
Wonder if people are buying these to convert their re-re Hotshots into Supershots?

Hi,
I'm afraid I have to agree and also disagree with you on this subject as it's also something that really gets on my nerves. I agree with the mods deleting your post as sadly it has nothing to do with Tamiya or R/C but I agree that there needs to be a standard to follow. The other items you listed shouldn't be there either.
If I wanted to look at bikes, clothing or any number of other stuff, now matter how old I would be subscribing to www.oldbikes.com or something similar not www.tamiyaclub.com. I myself have a large collection of old toys inclusing a chopper, Big Trak etc but they have nothing to do with this site and you have to remember a lot of members won't remember them anyway.
Just my opinion.
Adam
Yeah, dont get me wrong, I understand why it was deleted but it does seem that the rules on this subject are wishy washy as some members are being allowed to post their stuff which is every bit as unrelated to Tamiya & R/C as mine was...probably even more so actually.
-
Last week when updating my showroom I decided, after viewing some of the stuff in other member's showrooms, to post pics of my vintage Raleigh Bomber bicycle. This is a bike that has been in storage for 25 years and unused....and I likened it to finding the one and only NIB Sand Scorcher in the world and me having it.
Now fair enough, listing this had nothing to do with Tamiya or R/C but in my opinion it was worthy of a listing as many fellow members who were into Tamiya as teenagers would also in all probablity have owned a Raleigh bike at the same time.
As soon as I listed the bike there were a flood of comments - all positive - about how much they appreciated the sentiment of the listing.
12 hours later it was deleted by the mods.
In my opinion, compared to other stuff posted in Miscellaneous>Other this had a lot more connection with our love of collecting vintage stuff...even if it was not R/C related.
There is even a Raleigh Chopper in there that has been listed for years! Is there one rule for some members and another rule for others?
Can someone tell me how these listings can be deemed acceptable and yet mine not?

Now I am NOT asking for these items to be deleted, but I think my bike did not deserve to be deleted bearing in mind the nature of the above links. I think this site is more than just a homage to Tamiya but it is a homage to our childhood experiences and I think it is not too much to be allowed one or two listings that are not directly related to Tamiya but ARE somehow related to our childhood/teenage years...hence the seemingly acceptable posting of a Raleigh Chopper, MB Big Trak etc.

Is there an English speaking link to these RC-Champ guys?
-
P.S. Never mind the Monster Beetle....Boomerang will be next I reckon.
-
As I expected, the re-re gets the Hotshot 2 "trap door" chassis.
Only other difference I can see is that the damper springs are different....much more coils than the originals. Wonder if this gets rid of the woeful slop in the original car? Also wonder if they have done anything to the front gearbox wishbone mounting holes to eradicate the slack that occured?
I'm really surprised they have included the heatsinks, even if they are dummies. The new ones look even better than the originals, as they look to have mounted on a plastic strut rather that the old GRP one.
One thing that the re-re really does miss out on is the old KC daylighters. They were a huge part of the car's character. Oh well, I guess original decal set prices will go through the roof now!
Also think that the chances of the old hop-ups, ie gold wheels, HP suspension set, pin spikes etc getting re-re'd are very slim so I think that NIB/New Built Supershot values will be unaffected by this re-re.
-
This re-release gets more interesting and yet controversial by the day! Here is someone elses take on it http://tamiyablog.com/ .
Scroll down a little and read on. He absolutely savages the old car! I agree with some of what he says but surely the car was not that bad! I dont remember having too many problems with my car back in the day but then again I didnt race it into the ground like some did!
Some people are missing the point about these re-re's. They are being produced as durable back yard bashers and not as something to compete with modern racers.
-
Ok I'm now fleecing myself but this has to go to fund other projects so I will take £250. [
] -
Dropped the price down to £275 as I need a quick sale. Please see the trades section of my showroom.

Well it depends what vintage car you are running but parts for most of them aren't THAT expensive!....and anyway this is why Tamiya are doing re-releases...to cater for this modern phenomenon of 30 somethings wanting to relive the old days for small cost.
I agree with you about NIB though, a pretty pointless excercise if you ask me. I can just about understand owning a NIB of the ONE car a person had in the 1980's (since most of us were only fortunate to own one at a time back in those days) to relive the moment of looking at/opening the box when they got it, but owning endless amounts of NIBs and then stacking them in a cupboard never to be seen by anyone except in a few website photos just seems like excess boasting to me. Still, each to their own I suppose.
I cant even justify shelf queens anymore. I have sold all of mine off and any car I own is a runner. Most of the vintage stuff, Bruiser/Hilux/SRBs excluded can be bought for around £100 in used but good condition and it is pretty easy to clean and polish up a runner to make it look almost as good as a true shelf queen.
I just cant justify paying hundreds of £s for something just to look at it. My motto is "If it dont get used then it dont get kept!"

I was one of those who speculated that the coffee jar promo was a big 'wink-wink' to all of us about what was coming, and lets not forget that the Rough Rider was one of those cars included in that promotion. I am sure that the company is working on ways of re-releasing a SRB with modern performance capablities whilst staying faithfull to the original design. I imagine a chrome finished selection of plastic parts to replace the metal ones on the originals (as in the first run Subaru Brat) and a differential in the gearbox. Whether the original linkage to the steering servo would be used is debatable but perhaps they would place the steering servo in the current reciever box? One thing is for sure..all those who said a SRB re-re was out of the question must surely now have a rethink. If Tamiya can find a way to release it and improve it whilst staying faithfull to the origianal idea AND make a profit then they WILL do it. The re-re Hotshot shows that they are confident that re-releases are popular worldwide and are not affecting the brand. If anything, they are strengthening it!
Wandy, could you give me a link to a movie of that promo, really want to see it [

http://tamiyaclub.com/CS/forums/1/67942/ShowThread.aspx
It was discussed nearly two years ago and nearly all of the cars re-re'd so far were part of that promotion.
-
Nah, I cant see this being anything other than an almost identical version of the original, minus a few tweaks. And it will be all the better for it.
Mind you I would be very surprised if they included the original heatsinks. What would they be for? It would seem like a pointless and expensive add on if you ask me...but I hope I'm wrong and they do put them on as they were a prominent positive feature in the design of the car.
The link also says that the chassis has been "redesigned". I think what this means we will see is the same monocoque chassis...but that from the Hotshot 2 (with the metal door for easier R/C access). I also think that they will have improved the metal dampers to reduce the notorious slop, especially in the front set up. I also would not be surprised if they have come up with a new and improved linkage to operate the rear monoshock, as we all know how much stress the original design placed on the upper wisbones..resulting in a need for new 'R' parts.
I thought they would use the piano wire for the prop shaft but the use of a dogbone is an even better idea.
I know for a fact it will not happen but I would be ecstatic if they used the series 1 bumper that was found on only the earliest 1985 Hotshots. It's extremely unlikely though because it was much weaker than than it's replacement...but it was soo much better looking.
One other thing that will have to happen....on the upper chassis half where the ESC switch locates the ON/OFF writing will have to be reversed because when you currently put a TEU-101BK into an original Hotshot it is switched ON when in the chassis' OFF position!
All in all I am delighted with this re-re and, as I said earlier, I am sure the Boomerang will follow shortly. If it is true that there will be loads of hop-ups available it will surely show that Tamiya has finally cottoned onto the fact that the re-re market is to be taken deadly seriously...as their sales figures must be showing. I mean, by all means continue to produce modern and forward thinking designs but there is nothing wrong with indulging in nostalgia as long as it makes a profit and does not damage the brand..which is why we will continue to see more re-releases every 6 to 12 months.

I just knew this was coming!!!...which was why I have recently sold my new built and runner 'Shot. To all those who said there would be no more releases, well WE TOLD YOU SO!! To me it was obvious that Tamiya would re-re at least ONE of the 'Shot series transmission cars. They are an all plastic affair and would be very cheap to make.
Next will be the Boomerang. Absolutely guaranteed.
I predict within the next 2 years we will also have seen the Fox and Fast Attack Vehicle too. Watch this space.
Happy days!! [

Wow! I'm glad I bought mine now! I was actually thinking of selling it on but not after seeing that. Really pleased I got one of the chrome editions now!

Once you go over 2kg you're looking at either int. standard or int. economy with parcel force which is, unfortunately, very expensive.
Airmail to USA for 2kg is £19.69 (£23.69 for insured)
2.1kg for USA (now using parcel force) is £37.70 by standard (about a week)
or by economy £31.15 which could take up to 28 days.
For 5kg you're looking at £44 or £57 (eco/stand)
Not good [
] Thankyou mate. Outrageous really isn't it?

Anything I Need To Worry About On A Boomerang

Oh yeah I agree with that. The series 1 Hotshot bumper was little more than a cosmetic add on. I always think, when watching the insane jumps that were performed by the car in the promo vid, that it must have been wrecked by the time they had finished filming it.
Pity though because it was a much nicer looking bumper set up than the one that replaced it.
