Thundershot chassis, mono shock vs dual front
Chest Rockwell replied to Saito2's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I've got a Re-Re Terra Scorcher and Thunder Dragon. Not sure if it's down to the mono shock but the Dragon flips over much more easily. Scorcher sits lower as well. Both stock in chassis set up. -
Yeah, you're correct, that looks much better!

I quite like the look of the Black Special on-line but just think it looks cheap in real life. I'll be waiting for the OG re-release. Avante Black is different enough to make it interesting IMO.

Back in the early 2000's I managed to collect NIB, NB or mint versions of all the Avante series. Never got on with the 2001, just didn't look right for some reason, maybe the longer chassis with body stretched to fit? Re-Re would be cool though!

Rare and Collectible Tamiya RC cars
Chest Rockwell replied to Frankster's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
I guess with the Avante and Egress there are enough differences between the re-re and original to keep the value and desirability high? Re-re Egress doesn't have ti screws does it? Avante doesn't come with a proper Technigold. Also, they were both proper grail cars for most of us when we were young, halo cars that were too expensive for bashing about and released at the peak of Tamiya's powers. -
Cheers mate.

Hi all. How difficult is this to do? Is it just a case of replacing the mounts or is there anything else to consider. Love the Egress but my boy and I are just bashing about atm so don't want to ruin a proper Egress! VQS has come down so is a possibility.

Hilux/ Blazer Re- release?
Chest Rockwell replied to cantforgetthe80s's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Plenty of Boomerangs available on ebay since the re-re was announced so you never know! Lot's of Bigwig's and Madcap's too. -
Cheap transmitter/receiver to replace vintage?
Chest Rockwell replied to Chest Rockwell's topic in General discussions
Thanks Alvin. Tbh ESC's are the least of our problems as we're running modern ones across all buggies/cars. It's the transmitter/receiver/servo that we are going old school as I got a bunch for not much ££. -
Cheap transmitter/receiver to replace vintage?
Chest Rockwell replied to Chest Rockwell's topic in General discussions
Thanks all, some really helpful comments. To be honest I'm happy enough with the old stuff and have plenty of it but I'm having trouble keeping the Tamiya ESC happy that came with my Thunder Dragon. The cheap ESC I bought from ebay seems fine though. If I can make the old and new kit play nicely together I'll just keep what I have and know for now but before I bought more crystals and receivers I thought I'd ask about the new, cheap kit. 1- Always preferred stick tbh. 2- Not necessarily as I have enough transmitters to cover all our vehicles. Just didn't want to start buying more old kit (receivers and crystals) if there was a better, inexpensive option. 3+4- No, it'll be buggies and cars only. I think we might wait to see how much we use the buggies we have given the information provided as the Terra Scorcher seems plenty fast enough for now with the Tamiya Super Stock RZ I fitted, then maybe upgrade to a modern buggy with modern radio gear if my son keeps up his interest. Thanks all. -
Hi all. After years away I'm back collecting and have bought a few Re-re's to bash around with my son. Transmitter and receiver wise I've just picked up some old Acoms kit like I used in the past as it was cheap and what I knew. Works okay but doesn't seem to want to play with one of the buggies that has a brushless ready esc very well. From following the forum and looking online it's clear that technology has moved on and we may go down the brushless/lipo/etc route in the future but for now I was looking at the cheap, modern kit that doesn't need crystals. Something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/402365446383?epid=19048963204&hash=item5daed978ef%3Ag%3AwDEAAOSwz0xfbBVF&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4BdmZgQnK4OBchhu4oXgYfGcK74pUdenKWVIBeTzIEDzDHRfcRVUJ490ML6B3yHhxNDpxx2XbNhTmrMJ3nhazJrl46yZd2DRwlallKMm3z4YAXnlXjIn72AfomJ7BL54MGtq4J%2BBEn8%2F3fv6sJb1vPOa%2BHSnXdAxJsgM%2Bl1RSDYRyzPoK2fLn5rXn7TYrob%2BjKIY1TXgJ%2FXYEcSkr%2Bl%2FoxGffDiKL6L9AOj1UMMSxJxg%2BNQjw0%2BOqZ126kjQPZOChlxRyavT6ROWq2E1jG2sJAD3qzjsbe08Wlq9EvMGdL6A|tkp%3ABFBM5Oav7uZh&LH_ItemCondition=3 Is that suitable and if not, what is? Will it, or similar work alongside older stuff with crystals or will it interfere? Not looking to spend too much at the moment as we have plenty of old kit that we can muddle along with but any advise would be welcome.

A couple of wrong steps by Tamiya on re-releases
Chest Rockwell replied to kontemax's topic in Re-Release Discussions
Agree as from memory the HS2 just kind of swam in the backwater with the Super Sabre while everyone bought The Boomerang, Thundershot or Thunder Dragon.
