Tamiya ESC switches for Hobbywing ESC
orcoconut replied to orcoconut's topic in All things electric...
The cover and case are likely custom tamiya parts, I was just going to 3d print some. However I don't think you need the cover/case, as the tamiya kits normally come with the rubber cover and the screws to mount and cover the switch. -
I quite liked how in some RC kits tamiya actually built in specific mounting points for their esc switch and sometimes even included a rubber cover for the switch too. Normally they're located in a place where you could switch off the esc without having to remove the body which is quite convenient. Now Tamiya esc are not always easy to come by and not exactly the best value and most don't have a proper lipo cutoff voltage either. Tamiya has even started bundling some kits with the hobbywing 1060 making those mounting points mostly useless. I have 3d printed a mounting bracket for a couple of the kits to be able to mount the 1060 switch in the same location but some are hard to reach as the switch is much shorter than the original tamiya ones. But after soldering a switch from a dead tamiya esc to a hobbywing esc I decided that was the idea solution, and went to source the switch component. Seems like it's not that common and the only place i could find it was aliexpress but they have arrived and can confirm they are an exact same as the tamiya esc switch. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32885128052.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.11.48fc1802cUFRBp You need the G10 option as the G number is the length in mm of the handle, the switch itself seems to be SS22F25, aliexpress seems to be the only place I could find selling the 10mm long handle. Just thought I would post this in case some others wanted to do the same.

Duties and taxes are payable to CBSA, FedEx cannot make money off those. If you believe you've been charged incorrect duties and taxes you can definitely dispute it. Taxes are dependant on the value of the goods, duties are dependent on the value and category of the goods. As I said Canada does not impose duties in toys. What FedEx and couriers do is hit you on fees. But it all depends on what service you use. FedEx economy/ground charges you something like 5-7% of the value of the shipment on fees which can really screw you over if you have a high value shipment. FedEx priority charges $11. And Btw Canada Post also charges $10 clearance fee. By the sounds of it, you chose the FedEx ground shipment option, cheaper shipping cost, but much higher fees, which actually results in you paying more. Don't get me wrong I totally hate how couriers have all these hidden fees just to jack up their profit. Luckily I have a CBSA office relatively close by so I am able to self clear my packages so I only pay the applicable duties and taxes directly to CBSA, and not pay the couriers their clearance and brokerage fees.

There should be no duties since this is classified as a toy. However there will be some fees from fedex on top of the taxes, did you choose fedex ground or priority?

I ordered on the 15th, once I saw the local hobby shops in Canada started taking pre-orders I emailed to cancel but they said it had already shipped (April 29th), I got tracking on May 1st and it was delivered May 2nd, so it was really fast delivery. Overall I think i paid about $45CAD more than if I had bought it locally, which wasn't too bad. The retail for Canada was $540 while $380 USD = $520CAD. The cost of international shipping is always going to add costs, unless the US price is much cheaper than the Canadian price. Also never use fedex economy or ground, their processing fees for inbound international shipments are absurd. I was lucky and managed to get it waived once, but lesson learnt. The extra $4/5 dollar extra for fedex priority means you have much less fees to pay (or $0 fees if you have a free fedex account). But, lesson learnt for the RC10T, I think I'm going to wait to order from locally. AE has a limit of 2 per customer on this as well so it looks like they are making more and or anticipating less of a demand compared to a gold pan RC10.

It seems like these are not as limited as initially anticipated, they're still available on AE.com Look at rcmart's IG post, they got loads of stock. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6jBayvMUb_/?img_index=1

Yeah, the CC version sold out so quickly on the AE website, but at least in Canada there's a lot of stock sitting around. Maybe because the shops got them so late all the hype had died down, and the reviews had come in about the issues with the PC parts cracking? Funny how this is anticipated to be a very limited release but AE website are still accepting orders. My order was 1900s and I haven't gotten a tracking number yet, but they did say my order had been shipped when I emailed earlier today about cancelling my order.

I have seen some threads and rckicks where they tried mixed the paints according to the manual, but the colours were wrong. In the manual it says 70% white, 30% green, few drops of blue However if you watch the video from kyosho on the optima mid 87, they don't use standard green, they use the pro-line mil spec green. https://youtu.be/E2KWTX6Y2VM?t=1115
