  1. in case things go south with the servo I bought whats the outcome? the esc will over heat and get smoked? maybe I can try it and see
  2. the thing is - i dont get the spray paints in my country because we cant import spray paints - its a regulation thing. the local tamiya market is ultra small and the paints there are only the acrylic ones...
  3. crap what alternative would you reccomend?
  4. as for the paint comments: these are what i bought: https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Models-Acrylic-Paint-Metallic/dp/B0099WPTEM even though i didnt think they will not suit lexar i am fine with the notion that it can peel - for me it will be another chance to repaint with the kids thanks for the info. I also noticed I had a mistake in one of the lines (fixed it now). due to the fact the items are only on their way of course I cannot vouch for anything (the cannot was missing). for example, the bearings from ali express were in super low cost. also, many items have the TT02B on the title but inside if you watch the package contents you see its the wrong sise brearings... it took some time to get the sizes from the web and crosscheck it with the AE package conteints. another example is the DumboRC reciever/transmitter. at first I aimed higher but I had to remind myself that I need to pace. I gathered all info I can get online about it and for the price it seemed like an awsome deal (the biggest drawback was that is a one car onl.;y support) so like I mentioned, I can explain each item decision but its mostly what fits my specific needs at this time and I do believe there are other like me with the same ideas and budgets so now they can also learn from my experience... I will update this thread once I get everything
  5. Hi all I have just recently decided it would be good fun to return to this Hobby (35 years later) and see if its still is for me. Back in the day I had a Tamiya Fox and later a thundershot (the year of the OG release) needless to say the amount of data i had to collect to start filling the gap was overwhelming, I got a little lost, but fortunatly, there are places like this forum and also my best friend youtube was a great help... so what was my criteria: easy on the pocket: i had to buy everything from scratch: car, battery, charger, etc. all should fit in a relatively tight budget. a decent car: while budget is king, i didnt want anything that will make me unhappy with the purchase upgradable: I wanted to have the ability to upgrade the car if needed (parts, engine, gears) so community and part availability was important building it: I want to remind myself of the build experience inc. painting. easy operation: I want the car to work for me and not the other way around to keep things short, I went for a neo schorcher, but actually, I went for a TT02B based car (could have been another TT02B car). it seemed like it answered all of my criteria. (BTW, I had no idea what a TT02B was 2 weeks ago) for those who want to see the list of things I purchased with prices along with the kit here is a more detailed list: the car: 180$ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DSVF3BY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details the battery and charger: 52$ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QRQPSF8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - yes its a nimh. metal ball bearing kit: 5$ https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003508639967.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.44.21ef1802Wl2nZf metal drive shaft: 7$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803425336193.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.39.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US metal motor mount: 4$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803091385160.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.33.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US 19T pinion: 2$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802686602052.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.27.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US transmitter/reciever (w. gyro): 30$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804602560812.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.15.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US foam wheel cover: 1.5$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803716864776.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.21.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US 6KG servo: 11$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802817927490.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.10.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US metal servo horn: 2$ https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832573460693.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.21ef1802Wl2nZf&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US Grand Total: just about 300 USD which is something I could commit to in order to see if this hobby can re-grow on me... of course I can explain my rational for each of the items, but mostly, they simply fit my needs at this point in time... NOTE that the items are on their way, so nothing was delivered at this point and I cannot vouch for their quality... if you made it till here - then this post was of interest to you thanks for reading. [update] forgot about the tamiya white & metalic blue paint jars I also purchased for 5$ each - yes I am going to paint using a brush (with my kids)
  6. not in the UK but I will keep my eye on ebay. I am in no rush
  7. BTW, if I understand correctly, the avante black has imporvements over the 2011 avante... if this is the case then maybe going with the black edition makes more sense (driving wise)
  8. thats a good question!!! at this point in my life I cant really afford to have it on the shelf but i'd rather build then drive
  9. Hi all; after a 35 year slip and browsing through tamiya's offerings, i cant get my eyes of the avante (OG or 2011 re re) what can I say - its just bueatiful to my eyes... but... kits are no longer selling (there's the black special now but it looks different) what would you reccomend? buys at 3 time the prices from ebay? wait for a re re re? go for the black and make it look like an OG? thanks!
  10. here's an even better one: maybe I should look at gearing a little deeper.... question: can I by a 64T spur and use the same 19T pinion I use on my regular motor? if the spur diameter different? (i have an adjustable motor mount I assume it will help use different spur and pinion diameters?)
  11. Hi all; i bumped into these vids. looks like a different gear ratio made all the difference. on the same motors, even silver can, going from 68T/22T spur/pinion to a 64T/29T gave the car almost 2x speed...
  12. 35 years ago i was driving a fox and thundershot. back then it was all about the kits. you had to build them. you had to paints them it was sometimes more important than the drife itself. 35 years past and it seems like the current market is RTR based mostly. what am I missing? how can someone prefare a RTR model over something you build from scratch? am I simply too old? of course this is a tamiya forum so most of you build but the overall market is a different animal
  13. thanks for all the info I have recently posted many question (and probably will have some more) I think I will eventually post a summary of what I bought based on this forum's reccomendations and my research it will be good for others like me navigating this waters - i can tell you that it was a lot easier 35 years ago - i simply went into the biggest toy shop (Hamleys in london on a family trip there) - took a new tamiya thundershot, a 8.4 nimh, a technigold motor, a 2 channel futaba with servo all over the counter. - there werent 50 types of servos, motors, transmitters, recievers, etc to choose from
  14. can you post a link to a aliexpress valid servo for my tt02b neoscorcher? that would be great thanks!
  15. but back to the topic at hand... so assuming I see the specs below for a servo there is a rated current of 1A and blocking current (what ever this is) of 1.8A does this mean the servo draws 1A of the ESC (which is well which the tamiya default tt02b ESC) so thats a good servo example? Specifications: Type: SPT4412LV 12KG, SPT4412LV-210, SPT4412LV-320, SPT4412LV-360(optional) Motor: Core Voltage Range: 4.8V / 6.0V Signal Frequency: 330HZ PWM Voltage: 3.3V-5. 0V Feedback Angle: no Cycle: 20ms Default Direction: CCW Yes / no Lock: Lock Quiescent Current :50mah Rated Current :1.0A Blocking Current : 1.8A Weight / Dimensions: 50g / 40*20*28.3mm Output Gear: Futaba 25T Gear Material: All Metal Gear Shell Material: Half Aluminum Shell Bearing: 2BB Connector Wire Length : 260MM line Definition: Brown- / Red + / Orange s Operating Speed: 4.8V/0.11″/ 60° 6.0V /0.09″/60° Stall Torque: 4.8V/10kg.cm 6.0V/12KG.cm Package Included: Digital Servo * 1
  16. the thing with amazon is that they are the only ones i can trust with shipping, shipping prices (usually zero) and no hassle returns. of course many things could not be found there... most hobby shop will charge 30 USD/EU even to send a sheap 9$ servo... BTW, in my whole shopping for items, apperantly the most difficult thing to deliver overseas is the tamiya spray paints... I guess there are rules on sprays in general or somethihng
  17. hard to find on amazon something else TBH...
  18. found this one now with 4.8-6.8 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU7TQV8/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?smid=A1L550QEP2LVNB&psc=1 looks ok to me but I am not an expert by any means...
  19. should i be worried if the default tamiya esc outputs 6V and the servo operate between 6-7.4? i guess 6 is the common denomenator but there are servos with 4.8-6.8V operations out there - would they work better?
  20. thanks, ill b honest. I am on the fence here. I am not sure if I want to get a cheap but valid one for 35$ or stetch the budget to 70$... every penny counts but there's so much info i am lost...
  21. thanks but TBH, its in the exact price range of the GT5 at the moment...
  22. Hi all; what should be my criteria when choosing a servo? for a neo scorcher beginner driver that does not race there are 10usd ones and 40usd ones.... hard for me to undersdtand
  23. No one here with input on the newer g7p?
  24. thanks guys; out of curiousity - when digging into the GT5 i bomped into the newer G7P. on the surface, its a similar price point but the 7P seem to be more capable (at least thats what I gathered) - it has a plastic wheel which is strange but other than that looks legit. any thoughts on deciding between the 2? \thanks
  25. Hi all any recomendations on a solid value for money RC car transmitter/reciever? there are a lot of brands and a lot of bells and whistles I am not sure I need and a lot of websites selling. my budget is up to 70USD (its a wide range i know). what would you go for? thanks for the help BTW, I am a beginner driver and will probbaly not have more the 5 cars ever (unless i win the lottery, stop working and buy all RC model in the world)
