  1. Does it have a mechanical speed controller (MSC)? (looks sort of like this, see photo, borrowed photo from the internets) In that case, the MSC could be "stuck" - clean the contacts and then try the car on top of something so that it doesn't run off again when you start it. And always turn on the transmitter first, and then the car. See if that helps, otherwise someone with more knowledge will correct me.
  2. I think, perhaps, that the screws may be brass? They indeed look more yellow/golden than steel or aluminium would on my original specimen. Mine was fully equipped with pogo sticks and plastic bushings, though.
  3. This is not my work, but just wanted to show it, since I was reminded about it, hearing the story of @Andreas W and his brothers' Grasshopper II. This is from the tub of the GHII I bought the other week, the one that is going to be the new 380 racer for Wilhelm "Willy" Schrott. Not sure if I am going to keep it stock, serving as the next custodian. If not, I´ll have to change out the tub since I can't get the pogo stick off without risking ruining it. To me, it is a very neat job, with the bent metal and the tiny screws and what looks like glue.
  4. Of course, my dear man! That's what you get for speeding through life, trying to take a shortcut through the long grass ... there be dragons.
  5. Yes. As an aside, it can sometimes be a nice hop-up to get the variation with a screw - boy does it irk me sometimes with these small fiddly things falling out and getting lost. Like 58323, just to take an example. Check that you get the right thickness for the hub. (edit: the 58323 isn't appropriate for this purpose - see below)
  6. I had to go upstairs to have a look at Socky, and in my case the link sits on the outer/upper hole in the photo you provided. Which means that the barrel spring sits more at an angle on mine. I find the whole construction a bit Tamiya, or well, quirky. If you need, I can make a photo of it. My springs are different that yours, but the concept should be the same. Edit: well, no, it's a bit more to it: the upper part of the link sits on the upper (looking from below when it's upside down, hah), too - see photo, might be hard to see, perhaps.
  7. My cup of tea. Here's to the crazy ones! (if it be the ones that make exact copies of interiors or run teapots around the backyard)
  8. Yes, I was guessing there was a snag in there ... let's hope it all works out fine in the end! I'll keep an eye out and see if I can come up with something else.
  9. Ouch! I thought it was a NIB kit? You could buy the 9400853 bag ... but that's a "bit" on the expensive side. Perhaps this? -> https://www.modellmarkt24.ch/pi/Ferngesteuertes-Auto/Ersatzteile-RC-Cars/Ersatzteile-Tamiya/TAMIYA-51326-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-40-Bevel-Gear.html?waehrung=eur&kat_aktiv=34323&kat_last=34323 I've never used the above company and perhaps not a good idea - just trying to help out a bit.
  10. Certainly different. And crazy with a big C. Exceeds Tamiya level of craziness by country mile. (and I can't stop myself from thinking about flying teapots when seeing this - too much Gong, I suppose, sorry for the prog music reference!)
  11. The mailperson (or -dog, who knows?) brought me some tiny plastic parts, courtesy of Mr @jonboy1, Esg. Tiny pieces, big happiness.
  12. Friday again (again) ... Sunny weather today, with sun and possibly gardening coming up during the weekend. I am hoping I can get Junior to actually get outside, instead of hanging around in the sofa, in front of a screen. Maybe we'll even get to see some Junior RC action, who knows? As for other RC news, I haven't gotten very far with the Grasshopper II project, but maybe I can rebuild the gearbox if there is some spare time inbetween the usual weekend chores. Have a great weekend, all of you!
  13. Here is one, not an exact copy, but a truck is a truck ... https://www.modellbau-berlinski.de/rc-fahrzeuge-und-zubehoer/autos-und-zubehoer/zubehoer/karosserien/1_10-offroad/1970-chevy-c10-_-28cm-radstand_-karosserie-1_10-klar
  14. Thanks! I can find many yellow Schumachers, but the blue ones are a bit harder to find. Found some at CS-Electronic, though. This is not a super high end racer, just an average barn find, so I am going to get something better than the old tyres.
  15. Do you use blue compound both front and rear? If being understeery, I guess it would need more grip up front? We'll have to see - the Hopper needs to be put back again first.
  16. Sukoyaka Spirits - rule #5 - enjoy and have fun - (from the RC Team Chonmage YT video explaining the five rules of 380 racing)
  17. @ChrisRx718 wrote about this somewhere on here and mentioned carbon tube shafts (see below, @Pylon80): I knew I would forget where I saw it, so made a screenshot of it. Edit: typed the pertinent text bit up, just in case the screenshot goes away for some reason (any typos are my own): ”I’ve made custom length prop shafts for the TL01 / MF01 using 5 mm extruded carbon fibre tube - which is effectively the now-illusive (and therefore expensive) TL01 Carbon Propshaft item 53323 is. It’s easy to cut and drill and being 5 mm OD, it just fits straight into those 1150 bearings.”
  18. Did you type it in all that, all over again?
  19. Wilhelm "Willy" Schrott took delivery of his new hot racer today. The original driver got the boot and merrily went off to the South Seas trying his luck at sailing (how this is supposed to work out since he has no arms, nobody really understands, honestly). So at JimBears' Garage there is some activity, mostly ripping out the old grease and trying not to get too much grime on the kitchen table. The head mechanic (J. Bear) says there is some worn out tyres and the rims aren't too hot, either. The body is yellowed from standing around too much, but may be restored with a lick of paint, or swapped for a lexan baja bug body from the attic department. Extras include possibly changing out the tub, but that would eat into the already strained budget (going for 90 euros, tops). Willy suggested nabbing a few ball bearings (when Mr Mouse isn't working up in the attic department, hoohaa).
  20. The story of Edgar-mon (the Edgar Cat and the Mon) - how sad/sweet ... I always honestly thought your little driver was some sort of official Tamiya mascot. It looks promising with the Bruder truck cab. Will follow along, with interest.
  21. If so, then: https://tamico.de/Tamiya-R-Teile-Spiegel-Heckleuchten-MAN-TGX-19115280 - perhaps?
  22. @WhteRbt - how does the front tyre/rim combo look like when ... aaah .... looking at it from the front?
  23. @fritjof - good to know, I've been wondering if someone would come up with answer. Now I can sleep better again.
  24. Great to see it where the chassis is supposed to be, @svenb. No tyres? Going to be a noisy ride!
  25. Thanks for the confidence vote! Already thinking about tyres and possible rim options ...
