Just a few naff paint questions ... Doing a hardbody shell (or a driver figure) - is it possible to utilize masking tape when doing a paint job (details) with X/XF colours? Or is it just up to steady hands, mad skillz and luck? What about liquid mask? I assume that it is not much in use for RC stuff, perhaps more for static models, but the Tamiya paint-on surface primers (like 87096); does anyone have any experience/tips? My results are ... well, underwhelming (no much coverage at all, really).

Maybe we'll talk this fondly of the MB-01 in ten years' time, who knows? By the way, the M series seems to be all "forward motion" - I guess there will never be a re-re M chassis?

This. In my mind are the minors; dad buys a large Arrma/Traxxas/etc and lets the young ones "have a go", and they go off to the skate park, having seen someone doing cool stuff on YT, and someone gets in the way ... I know from experience how easy it is, since the boy wanted to do what Mr Johnny Barefoot (or whatever he is called this month) did. In this instance, both mum and dad were at hand, nobody else around and with the DT-01 he didn't get all that far, with the flying business. But still ... We've only had one or two smaller incidents with feet/ankles getting in the way of the DT-01, but even the WLtoys buggy he had - much quicker; small but full of metal bits got me worrying about visits to the doctor. So, I've been trying to get the kid into crawlers instead.

@Juggular - I think Armin (the man who did this video - not me!) mentions this in one of the comments: that he did the work early in the morning when nobody had gotten out of bed yet. I have never been to Passau (yet) but yes, I think the clocktower is the Old Townhall (Altes Rathaus).

"Hanging out on TC is certainly conducive to wanting things." Are you kidding me, man? Wanting? It's more like "oh, man, gotta take a bank loan to get all this cool stuff!" Well, seriously, I agree with you. My premise is that the want may be big but there are constraints in budget and time. That's forcing my hand, but I also have to acknowledge that I am more of a runner guy, rather than a collector (even though I suffer from ... uuh ... hamster tendencies). Too much stuff that never gets used bothers me; my "collection" is at the moment hovering at one M-03 Mini (need to let go), 2 CR-01 (need to let go of one), an M-05 (NIB, bits in bags, also need to let go) and 2 Axial SCX24s. The kid has two cars (DT-01 and the Rising Fighter) that I am trying to keep running too. So, a total of ... 6 + 2, that is 8 in total. That is, exactly nothing in most peoples' eyes, I guess. But I have to admit (to myself) that I am getting slowly overwhelmed and need to find out where to go. I mean, it was "easier" back then, when all you had was the cars on the shelf at the LHS. So, perhaps, am I trying to find the spot where I have enough fun stuff to do, but not get overwhelm and stress.

Crawler recommendations
JimBear replied to _Ben_'s topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
Have a look at the thread where I asked a similar question - there is some good advice in there. I ended up with a CR-01 (yet to drive it, though) but today I might have sprung for an Element RC Enduro 12 (the 1:12 trail truck) and gone from there, just to get my feet wet. -
I finally got a Clod .
JimBear replied to Dakratfink's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
My mum had a similar, that someone brought home from England - a bench model (handcranked). She used it too. I remember that I thought it was a really cool thing. And back to the topic at hand - I love the colour of your Clod. Might get a Clod body for the CR-01 eventually. If I can get it back to running condition, that is ... -
I am really looking forward to see what you get up to here, @Yoshisaur! I loved the Wild Willy and the attention to detail on that one.

Crawler kits for beginners?
JimBear replied to JimBear's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
I'll keep it in here, since it is related to the CR-01 (see above) ... I am finally getting down to putting this thing back on the trail again. So, first off, the former owner did take out the motor so I need to put another one in - and I guess I know the answer - but is there a shortcut to get a new one in, without pulling everything (it feels like it) apart? Can I lift off the skid plate and get the "motor + gears" out a bit to install the 540? If not, I guess one doesn't want to switch motors on this each and every day ... ... fiddling around a bit and looking at the manual, I now find that screws BA8 (4 of the 3x8 mm ones) and shims BB4 (2x 3 mm) and the piece A5 from the A sprue are missing, so I can't put the motor in. Gah. I have to source the 3x8s and the shims elsewhere (the metal bags cost from 25 euros and upwards) and buy the sprue A. Remember kids, "cheap" can be pretty expensive ... -
Tamiya Wild One Blockhead Motors Parts
JimBear replied to kyoshofan223's topic in Re-Release Discussions
To me (being an engineer idjit, sorry) it looks like the arms are swapped side-to-side and also being upside down in your video, @kyoshofan223? EDIT: of course ... @Saito2 and @toyolien beat me to it! Leaving the comment as a reminder to myself to read more carefully. -
Good to see you back in the fast lane, @bavee. Club life here is as wild and crazy as ever.
-
@BuggyDad - yep, the silhouette and the lower camera angle does it, I think.
-
I am honoured, indeed! I am eagerly looking forawrd to the Fropper (such a great name, that!).
-
Hey, hats off again! - it looks very fast, even standing still. That's the essence of a "cool car" to me.
-
Digging into this one again ... the 53908 kit (Universal shafts assembly parts for the Frog, Beetle, Blackfoot, Brat etc) seems to be set up in the wrong way too, at least looking at the product photos. In that case, it would be a pretty expensive mistake to buy one of these. EDIT: I see that this has been extensively discussed in the thread above - sorry!

Yep, ArminRC (not my video) makes some really nice stuff. And I hope I'll (or rather the whole family) will get to go to Passau eventually.

The “Dyna Kong” lives! Successes and struggles…
JimBear replied to Smokescreen38's topic in General discussions
Your Dynamog build is one of the few reasons I think of getting a 6-wheeler some day. I thought it was a lexan cab, something from a CC-01 or similar. If one can "hack" lexan in a similar way as hard plastic - no idea. -
Since we are wishing ... a Porsche 917, please? K or the L version, if the chassis is too long.
-
And if this particular one is from 1987 ... then it's soon middle-aged. Have they really been in continous production since then? I remember that I was looking at the Lunch Box at the LHS (when that was the only option) and the Monster Beetle, but thought that the Box was a bit too crazy and opted for the Beetle. Here is a video of another one - just for the fun (and beauty) of it:

RadioShack Hot Machine conversion
JimBear replied to Nikko85's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
I guess it is this; one has to find the roads less travelled ... ... and the lesser-known brands. -
Mohawk? Or should it be Mo' Hawk, perhaps?

RadioShack Hot Machine conversion
JimBear replied to Nikko85's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
@Nikko85 - the Pumpkin is actually a (Tamiya) QD right - but did Nikko make anything similar? -
Here is another with a few examples:
-
Yay for that! That Tomahawk (?) body looks so good on there.
