Somewhat related: the Javelin is possible to pre-order (the next batch?) from Tamico. Apparently available at the end of June.

I was so happy to discover the GF-01 Kumamon Tractor, and quite sad to see that it was discontinued. Easily my favourite among them. But hey, let's do a Monty Python - look at the bright side of life - there is still the Dancing Rider, Wild Willy 2, the GF-01TR Monster Beetle, the old Lunch Box ... I mean, there is enough crazy Tamiya stuff yet to build, then get out the door and have a drive-around and a laugh.

Why do some of you prefer blister packs?
JimBear replied to OnTheTrail's topic in General discussions
It strikes me that the packaging of the Kyosho Dirtmaster is something else compared to the Legendary series - it was a surprise to me when people did the unboxing. Totally different feel. These days, I am more aware of the packaging and the "whole experience" thing, although I still really dislike wrangling with wrapping paper and not-so sticky tape trying to make a nice package ... Need to turn to Furoshiki wrapping, I guess. -
I do like the green colour - well done! As for the side mirrors, I think (personal opinion) that they look a bit too big, but maybe Mr. Breed needs keep a good watch out.

Started something new today - SG Gemini SLX 1/12
JimBear replied to silvertriple's topic in Other makes
I have no idea really, but is it possible to bend 2 mm lexan (without expensive machinery)? What I was thinking was more like using the model as a basis, doing the chassis out of (flat) carbon fibre and then mounting stuff on to that, and see if one could make something "in the spirit of". Edit: just read your last post - cool! -
Found the time to sit down and get to sorting out parts for the steering on the Rising Fighter. I need to get it on (or off) the road again. It bothers me that the kids' Christmas present is languishing on a shelf in the cellar at the moment.

Cats, a cup of tea and budget racers ... now we are talking.

Next up: someone actually does a remake/remix of this? Things like this always gets my "let's build something" imagination going ... -
I guess I would heed @Saito2. I am slso stuck in the past - my first RC was a Monster Beetle. It has a hardbody (ABS, I think) which I like for the details and the look, but the Squash body is lexan which probably holds up better for crashes. This far, it seems that the Squash may be a better bet, but nobody really knows if any weaknesses will show up down the road. Lately, I've been looking at the GF-01TR Monster Beetle Trail - but that's going in a slightly different direction than the Dump Truck that @Twinfan recommended. Probably got its own pecularities, but as I mentioned, I like the Beetle form.

Lunchbox body - almost fits M08. Any suggestions?
JimBear replied to Smokescreen38's topic in General discussions
As far as I can see in the Showrooms section on the main site, the Lunchbox seems to have been done with M03 and M05 chassis. Here is a video of an M05 in action: ... but I guess there are two main ways - either modifying the chassis or the body (as in the example above). There is a bunch of photos (all text in german, though) over here: https://www.funktionsmodellbau.ch/content/series/dodge-van-auf-tamiya-basis/ -
I saw this on ebay.de being a bit of DT-01 fan looking for spares etc, but deemed it "the thing that should not be" and passed on it.

The XM-01 fanbase or general info on this new pro chassis 58738
JimBear replied to Tamiyastef's topic in General discussions
Well, if you want a "shortie" FWD (that is, 210 mm) the M07 won't cut it (Only 225 and 239 mm build size). According to Tamiyabase, the M-08 could be done as a 210 mm - not sure if that really is correct, and if so, are the M07 and M08 that different from each other? -
RadioShack Hot Machine conversion
JimBear replied to Nikko85's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
In the video you made (shown above), about 15 seconds in - probably because the video is edited - a walking couple (in blue and red clothes) just "magically" appears in the extreme right of the frame, as if they were "beamed in" (a la Star Trek). Never mind - I am just enjoying your work, that's all. -

Just loved the short video you did earlier, with the couple being "beamed in" on the walking path to the right. Keep'em coming! -
How bad can it be? Mucho Bad? (or Better, given the Egg and Soldiers cooking upgrade?)

Oh gosh, what a sweet little one! Those white rims really pop.
-
Yes, sir - me too. Like @Twinfan I've tended towards keeping a cart in progress, changing it a million times, until I just get rid of it, or out of exhaustion press the button. I am really on the lower end of the build project scale (single digits) but I am going to get rid of some stuff to gain some direction forward. Build what I can run (no shelf space and no money, really) and try to keep it for fun.

I'd better get off my chair then! I wanted to get at least one for the kid.

@ADRay1000 - how did you fit the Sand Scorcher body to the ORV (Frog) chassis? Front is the standard pin, I guess, but on the sides? Just screws into the battery holder on each side?

Squashvan for the Trails
JimBear replied to OldSchoolRC1's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
@OldSchoolRC1 - CR-01 for the Squash body? Or at least the rails from one, irght? Really like the hotrod body for the TL01, by the way. -
@alvinlwh - all the stuff one had no idea existed - like a light blue that is actually grey. Thank you for the explanation - I am going to continue rummaging around, lift a few stones and try and see what i can find ... As for the 600, I meant 600 grit sandpaper and that the paint needs a roughened-up surface to adhere better. In the meantime, I did a test with the 600 paper - a step in the right direction.
-
I got the paints the other day, did a quick test - and well, I'd better practice a lot more because that looked rather, uhm ... unsatisfactory. The brush-on primer (took the wrong colour, grey) probably needs a rougher surface. Is 600 grit too much for roughening? And the "light blue" (XF-23) ... Hah. I may have an odd sense of colour, but blue? - not so much. Might have to see if there is an X (gloss) variant and mix that with white to get closer to what I need.

Thanks, that's a great help! I didn't know that the Hornet lacks the motor plate - I thought it was sort of standard fare in most kits, but hey, learn something new every day.
