Could I somehow put hexes and other rims/tyres on a Saint Dragon? From the manual, it seems that the space is too limited ( driveshaft axle too short).
-
Tagging along here ... but can I use a "standard" (non-JIS, DIN?) M3 tap? I mean, the thread is going to be slightly different, but does it matter? I had difficulties using the self-tapping screws on the Rising Fighter build - seriously hard plastic in the bathtub chassis, so going forward I was thinking of getting a tap.

Kyosho Optima Mid: looks like a gopher ate the lexan body!
JimBear replied to smirk-racing's topic in Re-Release Discussions
I don't know if this video is of any use - I found it somewhere on here, via another thread on here about cutting lexan (which I obviously can't find anymore): -
Maybe I should just get on with that Atedai (japanese bench for woodworking) that I have been thinking of doing ... Would be easily stowed under the bed or propped up behind something. Oddly enough, I need less table space when I am working sitting down on the floor (and not because I put books etc on the floor itself - it has something to do with perception and working angles or something, no idea).
-
I really like what you have done here! Personal opnion though: I have a hard time un-seeing that the rear tyres look smaller in diameter (optical illusion) than the front ones. I guess it has something to do with how the cage sits in relation to the tyres. Or maybe it's just my old eyes.

I have a project on the backburner (shorty Midnight Pumpkin) - so I asked around, and from reading this thread I know that one could apparently make a shorter version of the MF-01x, for example (160-170-sh mm).

Spent part of the morning contemplating a Rising Fighter build and how much I comparatively enjoy the DT-01 steering setup, sloppy as that might be. Weird, steep linkage angles, no space for the servo and the tyres when setup looks like a Lunch Box gone crazy. Perhaps I should just give up the idea of building a Grasshopper, if this thing is that bad? '*goes off in search of more coffee*

@Nikko85 - oh sweet potato! These ones look good - I am partial to Edgars Safari (Amewi or Fayee body?). The rear arches on the FJ45 look a smidge too tight to me. No matter - I just wish I could get off from the "oooh, shiny!" things on the internets and actually do something. Good tip on the Sand tyres on the M rims - will have to make a note of that - thanks!

@Ferruz - I guess those are the thing for the ice racing season in Canada?

I guess this time machine thing is may be one of the things that has made me hesitate on getting another Monster Beetle. I loved building and driving it back in 1990 - but now I know more about the ORV gearbox weaknesses and reports about failures of the dogbones on the re-re - it might lay waste to the fond memories of it. I drove the original one for a shorter time, and then it ended up in a box - and maybe my memories of it would have been different if it had broken down on the third day? Like @BuggyDadsays - context is everything. As for the DT-01 that I bought (used) for the kid - it took me some good money, time and sweat to get it to the point where the serial breakage stopped long enough to be able to get out for a run, and the car still being complete when back on the bench. I never had this back in the day, so I had no idea what to expect; just going from the memory of my Monster Beetle, I bought it on a whim. Somehow, between the screwdriver sessions and frantic orders, we grew - in confidence and abilities. Now we both know it backwards and forwards, and the kid has gone from basic level to actually being able to see beyond that: "what can I make of this pile of parts I have here?" And maybe the kid will remember the DT-01 fondly in the future? I have no idea.

Is it possible to drive it like that - or is just for show? Good looking is it, nonetheless!
-
Maybe that is why we aren't seeing any builds yet (youtube or otherwise)? Is it this one? https://tamico.de/Tamiya-Lexan-Spray-Dose-PS-XX-Dunkel-Blau-Farbspray

I've not had any issues before (don't post all that many photos) - but if it continues, I'll just have to look at some sort of other solution (like tcphoto or using my Flickr account).
-
I just had a bunch of upload failures with the resulting -200 error - the file is 508k on my desktop, got squashed to 492k and failed to upload (time out issue?). Redid it a bunch of times, and eventually it worked. Using https:// by the way.
-
(for the nth time, getting -200 errors all the time - pfah!) This is as close as I'll ever get to a JJ Ultima ... (no, they didn't mix the orders up - Tamiya stuff inside, actually)
-
Another shop to keep track of - always good to check prices and availability.
-
I found out about the shop from a sponsor advertisment hanging at the local racetrack. I assume everybody buys their Xrays there (judging from the hordes of them on-track). We just go against the grain and run Tamiya buggies instead (just for fun and games).
-
Great! Do you buy these directly from Hong Kong? I found some black/grey ones at tonisport.de - got some grey ones too for another possible M05 project, since they were a bit cheaper than the chrome ones.
-
I am looking for M rims with an +4 mm offset to fill the arches of the Phat Mini body on my M-05. Does anyone know if there are any other options than the Phat Bodies rims? They seem to sell out quickly and I've no idea if/when they show up again. Or could I just get some spacers up front (already have the solution for the rear).?
-
Well, an NSU TT with RWD, right on! I'll never get around to do that, but a BMW 2002 (the HPI body) would be a nice companion to this.
-
No worries - I am just unused to being mixed up.
-
Indeed, sir! *takes hat off*
-
@skom25 - please re-read the posts above carefully - you mixed me up with @Pylon80. (Nobody remembers that anymore I guess, but let's say Stig Blomquist and Saab 99 Turbo ...)

Crawler electrics
JimBear replied to Tamiyastef's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
I can't help you except saying that I share your concern about the cable spaghetti. Undoing tiny cables from a TLU01 (or similar unit) gets tedious pretty quickly. Not to mention the risk of ripping something off. I guess someone needs to bring the light tech (or at least the cable spaghetti) out of the stone age ... or just give us more robust connectors. -
Crawler kits for beginners?
JimBear replied to JimBear's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
@87lc2, @Tamiyastef - I'll go for silver, then. And then I'll see where to go from that point.
