Whenever I've gone to bash sessions where there is no power outlets, I've just hooked the charger up to my car's 12v battery.

So, What Have You Done Today? (Vol 2 2025)
MadAnt replied to CoolHands's topic in General discussions
I just ordered some decals from MCI Racing. Two sets are for my Blackfoot Xtreme extreme project. Another set for my Clodbuster and another for the 959 restoration. -
I'll put it this way. It's like a Lamborghini, very cool, engineered to be a one heck of a beautifully complex supercar, but I still don't want one.
-
I must know were you got those red CVA shocks from, I have a project that those can work perfectly on.

Tiny, expensive, too many parts for a vice. No thanks.

Tamiya Sport Tuned Silver Can Question...
MadAnt replied to RC_Hobbyist's topic in General discussions
You can post all the motor data you want in my thread if you wish, which is for anyone who wishes to collaborate. The more data we have to compare, the better and that should also gives people one spot to checkout for specific motor info instead of spending hours or days searching the interweb. -
Tamiya Sport Tuned Silver Can Question...
MadAnt replied to RC_Hobbyist's topic in General discussions
That would be the shiny Johnson I believe. I have a few of them, and tested a newer one. It peaked out at 18,900 RPM at 7.2 volts. I'll have to check the old motors to see if they match the results @GToddC5 got. -
I run 8 shocks on one of my Super Clods, 4 oil filled and 4 friction with the stock springs. Handling is pretty good for what it is. Also, no, this one is not a Black Edition, I just replaced the worn-out blue parts.

Making the Blackfoot Xtreme, more Extreme.
MadAnt replied to MadAnt's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
Well... I have a running roller thingy now. I took the Blackfoot Xtreme out for just a quick test and it's awful. I mean it handles great accelerating in a straight line, but that's about it. Cornering and braking is just not great and it's due to the super soft front suspension I have setup as a place holder. The shocks I'm using have internal springs which are not really up to the task. Also the original tires are just stale and have flat spots, which is why I have Traxxas Sledgehammer tires in the rear. Once I have the right shocks and springs, I think there will be a big improvement in handling. So, next on the to do list is finding some nice red shocks with good springs. -
That's from hitting stuff on the ground. It's not as much of a problem when running larger wheels, but it's still a result of the gullwing arms being lower at that point.
-
Oh my God! I don't have the space for that, lol. With that many, I hope you have your collection insured.

Brushed Traxxas Ruslter, Stampede rtr or the Arrma Gorgon rtr are probably the best value you can get. Why is that when you can find cheap china brands on Amazon or Aliexpess? Durability and support, that's why. Walk into almost any hobby store that carries RC stuff and I bet there is a good 90% chance they will have Traxxas parts and accessories on their wall. If they don't have the part you are looking, they can get fast, whereas with the china brand garbo you have to wait forever sometimes(lots of stuff is made in China anyway). When I worked at a hobby shop years ago, Traxxas was the go to recommendation for a quick and easy starter. Even I a Tamiya fan, own a few Traxxas models. It was easier to help customers who need Traxxas parts and with the big parts book we had, any part number could be easily found using the diagrams.

Mk1 Sand Scorcher - rescued from the skip
MadAnt replied to GooneyBird's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
Very cool! And yes, for those new readers, that is a MK1 Sand Scorcher. The thinner front control arms, screws retaining the front springs and the space between the rear gearbox cage mount ears are the identifiers. Also the rear control arms should have what looks like a space for a bearing on the inside. I woud not worry about covering up the red paint some sanding and primer will help the prep for the new base coat. I do think red and yellow would look pretty rad though. -
Making the Blackfoot Xtreme, more Extreme.
MadAnt replied to MadAnt's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
While I'm a bit under the weather right now, I can still plan things out. I want to use the styling of the King Blackfoot for my inspiration and make the Xtreme more extreme. So on the to do list is finding the right parts that will fit the theme. I aready have a lexan body that should fit the wheelbase and not look short. For the graphics I'll order a decal set or two from those guys in Canada along with other decal sets that I need. I do need shocks, longer than the stock shocks, so I'm thinking of maybe going with some Hotshot II shocks since they are about 87mm eye to eye and are red in color. I will make a set of custom shock towers from 3mm ABS, which should be more than strong enough. The wheels I think need to be red too, I have another set of white GF02 wheels that I can paint and I will probably get another set just to have as spares. Since I want to save the original bumper, I might make a bumper mount that can accept the old blackfoot bumper, which I think might look pretty good and do a good job. For the performance I've gone ahead and installed a Team Orion Method SV2 17x2 motor. From my testing and experience, this motor should provide plenty of speed and power, plus I'm using a 20 tooth pinion instead of the standard 18 tooth. The speed controller is a recycled Axial AE-1, I don't know who made these for Axial years ago, but it predates the crawler ESC's from Castle Creations. For the steering servo I'm using a Rage RGRS142-16-6VM, which is high torque and has metal gears. I thought about using one of my Tower Pro 996R's, but those things are noisy and slow and yes the spec says it's faster, it looks like a lie to my eyes. Alright, the radio controlling this mess is a good old Airtronics/Sanwa MX-3 FM transmitter paired with a Futaba R133F receiver. Lol, that's right, no 2.4Ghz here, we got 75Mhz FM. Why? Because it saves me money using what I already have and what are the chances someone else is on the same frequency these days. (I do need to get more crystals.) Anyway, stay tuned, here is a teaser photo. -
I should update this thread. I got the new Yeah Racing winch controller, I might wire it up this weekend or sometime. I still need new LED bulbs and a light controller, then I need to order some more styrene and plastic weld. I've just been busy and created a new project that is taking up space, lol.

The Blackfoot, what an iconic Tamiya monster truck it has become. Over the years it has evolved with different suspension setups and two, yes just two different chassis (change in color does not count). I've never owned a Blackfoot, I have cars that are very close in relation, but unless I put in the work to swap some parts, it does not count. If some of yall have read my "Let's Build a Dagger" thread, then some of you may know that I have become a fan of the WR-01 platform. I think you can tell where this is going... Yup! I'm now the owner of a WT-01, but not just any WT-01, a Blackfoot Xtreme WT-01. Unfortunately it does not have a body and has some condition issues, which is not a big issue because I have some plans. The truth about the Blackfoot Xtreme is that there is nothing extreme about it, other than the graphics, I plan on fixing that. In my opinion, the King Blackfoot the best looking truck out of the entire series, so some of that will be my inspiration for this project. Anyway here is a sneak peek of a repair just to tease all of you.

Advice on pinion gear size for hotshot 2.
MadAnt replied to Super ally's topic in General discussions
Whoops! My brain went dyslexic on that one. At least the options should be easy. -
Those engineers eating the crayons instead designing new improvements to the ORV gearbox thought that stress from rotating 4.75'' tall tires would be fine to run. Some people have fixed the issue by ditching the diff and using a spool, but steering will suffer from doing that.

Robinson Racing makes steel metric 0.6 mod pinions. I think the part numbers you need are RRP1115, RRP1116 and RRP1117. -
Opinions of you builders on all the RC10s
MadAnt replied to njmlondon's topic in Re-Release Discussions
I have one RC10 buggy(other one is a truck in storage), it a B3 with a longer chassis. I don't race, so I've used it as a practice car at the track. I Don't run it anymore because I pretty much got tired of how fragile it is. I've had breakages on almost every track run and replacing parts like control arms and bulkhead braces were eating up cash. A few years ago I bought some nylon 3D printed control arms from Shape Ways, I'll see how those hold up maybe in the future. -
Sweet!

Best currently-available Tamiya "monster truck" or similar?
MadAnt replied to LMF5000's topic in General discussions
First of all, that's a nice Squash Van. Second, I understand your argument and you are right on a few things, but stock compared to stock, I believe the WR-01 will out perform the GF-02 in less stable situations. It's just my opinion based on my mechanic knowledge of how things work. Yes, upgrading motors are a problem since one of the two needs to spin in reverse. Is my opinion flawed? Probably yes. Will I stick with it? Yup. -

I can't choose because I don't have experience with the newer stuff, but I do have alternative ideas. You can still technically obtain a "new" WR-01 by purchasing almost the parts directly from Tamiya and a few aftermarket goodies elsewhere. In my opinion based on what I have seen and heard in videos, that new GF-02 Squash Van is top heavy and could be improved by making the track width wider. However, after I built a NEW WR-01 in December of 2024, I am convinced that the WR-01 is superior with it's dual motors and much lower center of gravity. Oh wait, it gets better. A lot of the hop-up option parts that are for the GF-02 will work on the WR-01. Lol, just my crazy idea.
