If you can shape it, maybe.

Bodies which fit The Hornet EVO Chassis
MadAnt replied to RC_Hobbyist's topic in General discussions
Whatever you can make fit with creativity that has a similar wheelbase. On one of my Grasshoppers I have a Parma beetle body on it and on one of my Hornets I have a Sand Scorcher body mounted to it. fitting the hard Sand Scorcher body may require cutting the front of the chassis for clearance, like @yogi-bear and I did. -
Look up the third shock mod. I did that, but made a friction shock for my Hornet. Or you could just deal with the stock weak anti rotation springs, which do next to nothing under acceleration.

I'm running a Team Orion Method SV2 17 turn x2 motor in my vintage Hotshot 2. On a good 2s Lipo it's pretty quick, but not violent. For the ESC I'm using a cheap Hobbywing 1060, it's basic and gets the job done. Also, I'm still running the original dogbone shafts and wire driveshaft. I believe the re-re HS/HS2 has beefier shafts, which should handle more power better. If it's just a normal runner, there is no need to swap bearings into the motor. The TZ is pretty hot for a 23 turn and should be as fast as my 17t x2 Method, or at least it seems so on paper. I don't know how it handles everything else, but you may want to look at some new tires to help put the extra power down, lol.

Yup! And no we are not eating them, they just go around and torment the neighborhood.

Merry Christmas!

Plan B! I could measure the position of the mounting holes on the gearboxes, then scale this drawing from the manual to the correct size and make a paper template. I can then make the necessary design changes, like tilting the front gearbox for caster and make the battery hole suitable for a modern LiPo pack. The other option would be ordering the chassis from the UK, but I don't want to deal with the extra international fees and customs mess, unless it comes from Canada. Edit: Due to the postal service strikes in Canada shipping from Canada may be an issue. I don't know how DHL, UPS and FedEx will work out with fees and whatnot.

This sucks! I needed that chassis half to use as a template. Not having it will make things more difficult, which means having factory mounting positions may not happen on the new chassis plates.

Super Hot Shot Build Issues (Front Gearbox)
MadAnt replied to TimGee's topic in Build Tips and Techniques
Front suspension has too much droop. -
Check out Hobbywing. I have one of their old cheap EZRUN combo's in my TL01. You can tune the ESC with a programing card so the power can be very usable off the line.

Me like, I need to order me an aluminum shock set.

I could tell you that you are wrong and it really depends on the application, but it's not really a concern. When pinion gears with nylon spur gears have some or complete exposure to the outside or are not sealed, I don't lubricate them much or at all anyway. So I could argue and give reasons and examples and whatnot, but the decision is yours if you respectfully want to continue the pinion debate. BTW, I have nothing against aluminum pinions, I use them, but I know what I can get away with for the application most of the time.

To build or buy my next 2wd (Madcap/Super Astute)
MadAnt replied to Saito2's topic in General discussions
Usually whatever makes the best financial sense, but other things will depend. As RC hobbyists we don't always try to get the best bang for buck all the time, we just do what's fun, we take chances and experiment. -
I've had a few or so aluminum pinion gears wear to the point of like what @Kowalski86 has shown or worse. They either make noise, or strip the spur gear because the teeth on the pinion become razor sharp from years of wear. This happens more often on cars that have more load or abuse on the drivetrain, like monster trucks or heavily used buggies. When the time comes to replace the pinion gear, get the steel or coated gears. Anyone that says the stock aluminum pinion gears never need to be replaced might be worng depending on the conditions. Slap in a 3800Kv brushless motor and a 3S LiPo into a monster truck or buggy, or whatever in-between, then run the poor car like a mad man on a regular basis and watch that aluminum gear whittle away in about a year or two.

Not happening this weekend, still has not been delivered to the hobby store. I'll update when it does. This not the only thing I'm waiting for, I have ordered other stuff elsewhere (ebay sellers and other places) and I'm still waiting on the tracking info. It's very strange that multiple orders from multiple places are this slow. Maybe it's normal this time of year with the holidays and whatnot? I'll assume that and not worry, it is what it is.

Tamiya USA black friday deals - A couple more...
MadAnt replied to SlideWRX's topic in General discussions
Lol, the price is so tempting, I don't need it, but if I was gifting someone an RC for Christmas, this might fit the bill. -
Good to hear good news, live life and whatever may be left is treatable. I just had my tumor removed in September, so now I go for eye tests every 6 months and an MRI once per year. I consider myself lucky or maybe someone up there is looking out. I wish your sister in law, you and your loved ones good luck. The amazing work of the doctors, sticking together and family love will help her heal.💪🙏

Dang it! Why can't they just leave it alone?
MadAnt replied to MadAnt's topic in General discussions
Around here people would drive to semi truck parking lots, empty commuter lots or side streets and highways with very little traffic. Some areas still had plenty of stuff to crash into like curbed islands, poles and pot holes. -
I might do that and I have been giving it much thought. I also have some 3D printed C hubs with built-in caster that I bought on ShapeWays which should do the trick, but I only have one set, so if they break, I'm looking for replacements or going with stock. We'll see, I need the stock chassis half first to use a template.

Maybe so, I have seen the make everything over powered brushless trend. Back when I worked at a hobby store, a lot of people had the obsession of making everything faster, I've seen plenty of broken transmissions back then. -
Lol, I painted my hornet body last month because of the cold weather to deal with in December. It's a regular hornet body painted all gunmetal. When the evo comes, I just need to do some more triming and apply the decals. Anyway, I'll stay tuned for your next video.

Got my new .6mod pinion from RRP and was comparing it to the old one I bought years ago, which was still new in the package. There was nothing wrong with old one, so why did they make the new gear fatter? To make me measure twice for each time? SMH Always check your parts, because not everything will fit the same or at all sometimes. Easy fix for me.

Yup! Let's see if they grow too big again and resort to money loosing methods to stay big until they go bankrupt again, lol. Maybe I'll get into designing and 3D printing stuff in the future, lol. For now, it would be cool if I could buy stuff again.
