I would get a MFC now if you are thinking about it at all. It is alot easier to install while building or will have to take it all apart again to do later. But an ESC only, will work. Nothing special, will get you running,  just a 27 turn motor in the kit.
Like urban warrior  said, is pretty much it.
The MFC-01 comes with an ESC, all lights for truck, set up for remote 5th wheel, sound for the truck, all done remotely, and is pretty much plug and play. (easier to set up) Much easier to install while building the truck. Still will need the "SUPPORT LEG " kit to operate fifth wheel, but MFC will control it. Also easier for the trailer to, but can be done later, will have to take that apart also. On the Flat Bed Trailer the planks will have to be removed to put extra items in.Â
Grand Hauler is the longest of the American trucks.
I would start with a 4-channel radio, so you can expand in the future. Not that much more money.
The SEMI's are an expensive start into the hobby. But they are very cool. If you go all out with them you won't be sorry in the end. Very satisfying and fun to drive with everything (almost) remotely.
That's my thoughts. .........  You can't own just ONE.
Okay I appreciate your help if I were to get the mfc-01 is that the best one to the grand hauler or more of a starter option? I’d like to only have to install it one time per truck I just don’t know where to start looking at different options. Also I have to have the support leg to pull the trailer?Â
Â
I’ll most likely have to rebuild the trailer based on that kit and the lights I didn’t know I wanted. I’m not super tight on a budget for the truck yet so any recommendations would be appreciated. I see that it would be easier to put everything together in one go.

Good evening!
I think, the first parameter to throw in, is the amount of money you can or want to spend for your entertainment.
To say it simple: You need a transmitter set (radio and receiver) at least one servo for the steering and a speed controller. Not to forget a battery and a charger. If your truck has a shiftable transmission, you may need a servo for that too, or you may lock the transmission in one gear. Also, you may need a servo to unhook your trailer.
So, I would say it depends on your budget and how deep you want to dive into the hobby. The semi/truck section can get quite expensive, depending on your needs and expectations. As there are choices for lights and/or sound modules (which often include lighting options too), remotely operated trailer legs and so on. I guess you did not choose the most simple entry in this hobby.
Tell us a bit about your rig and trailer (maybe a photo ... forums live for photos!) and how much you want to spend. And don't forget: Those who buy cheap often buy twice.
Thank you for responding I have a grand hauler I purchased from the RC store nearby and a Tamiya flatbed trailer also purchased from RC store as kits. For now I was just hoping to drive the truck around pulling the trailer. And slowly accumulate more modifications I can add on later. I was under the impression that I had to have the mfc to even run(feels incorrect) I’ll add some pictures a little later hopefully.Â

Firstly hello everyone and thank you in advance for any help. So my question is what exactly do I need to just allow me to drive the rig. I have a truck and trailer I built already but I know nothing about the controllers or what’s required to have it just move around. Thank you again.Â

Hello, happy to be here. And thank you for your response. I can solder a bit but by no means a pro.  I have run small led kits for crawlers before. But not nearly as complicated I’d assume the truck will be.
Is it safe to say that for my first truck I should go with the mfc-01? I’m okay with that even if it’s only for the experience of putting everything together.Â
