Hi All,
First post on the forum, I used to race tenth scale touring cars in the noughties, then life got busy and here we are 15 years later getting back into RC!
I always wanted an RC10T4, so when one came up on eBay locally I snapped it up. Along with it, the person selling it had some other items which he didn't want anymore, including this Kyosho
Having never owned a Kyosho before, a rather pleasant dive into the history of the Optima series ensued, and after working through all the variants and re-releases, I think it is an original Optima Pro, which has been modified over the years
Most pieces were there, including various spares, headed in Graupner labelled bags
Not being overly keen on some of the ways in which it was originally built, servo taped on etc, and in need of new dampers, I figured a restoration but using modern parts from the re-releases would be most fun.
Hunting parts proved interesting, given it is available as a re still, I had to use various places for parts and some were on very lengthy back order
But, eventually, I think I now have enough parts to get going, I decided to replace some of the original bolts with stainless and have chosen xtraspeed dampers which appears quite nice
I'll aim to update this thread as I go, but it will be somewhat glacial given the model was originally obtained in May last year!
Pictures show the original state it was I'll upload next some showing the beginning of the restoration and cleaning of parts; all metal parts have been wet and dried before polishing. I tried a buffing wheel on a drill but found AutoSol and elbow grease was better. Looks like I fractured the chassis rails with the drill method.....
