i did this a few years ago, filled a renualt laguna shell with plaster of paris and put it in the schools vacuum former, worked perfectly and saves £20 a time on shells!

  2. i would go for a faster motor, maybe a 19 or 17 turn, but change the gearing so that the car has a higher top speed, not acceleration. then when you can handle that, change the gearing so that you have the best of both. by buying a 27turn, you waste money as you will soon get bored and want/need something faster.

  3. if your clubs are snobby against tamiya, you are going to the wrong clubs. i have a tt01, the most basic of kits, but i have been racing for 3 months, started at the bottom and i have won three monthly leagues so far. go somewhere that everyone is friendly and willing to help, at the end of the day, we're there to have fun, it is competetive, but it should fun too.[:D] i, like fatboyslim up there, race at newark showground.

  4. cheers terry, thats cleared that up! i will try the new smaller pinion and see how i get on, they are standard tamiya hop-ups for the tt01 and should fit. if not, i might look at fabricating a new motor plate or modifying the one i have, which will probably be easier. on a budget so i cant really afford to go out and buy an Mi2 or X-ray. thanks, james

  5. ok mate, thanks, i will sort some brushes and skimming, and ask the other tt owners at the club how they set their cars up, as one of them keeps killing me in the racing - hes only 8! [:(] james

  6. doesnt a smaller spur give better top end but poorer acceleration. i am confused. correct me if i am wrong. the track is the usual hair pin (long straight and top bend, a few chicanes and back to the straight) the motor has only been run 10 times, but it does get Very hot, might need to look at heat sink and cold air ducting. thanks for the continuing help

ps track is around 15 seconds long, 1/3 straight, 2/3 bends

  7. the spur and pinion are the standard kit ones, 61 and 19 tooth respectively. i want to gear the car so i have better acceleration, which will stop the motor working so hard to get top speed, but the only hop-up options i can find are for bigger pinions and smaller spurs, which will give higher top end but less acceleration, which is the opposite of what i want. im working on the idea of a bikes gears, that to get max acceleration, i need a smaller pinion and a larger spur, but these arent available! help!

  8. i want to alter the gearing so that i have a smaller pinion on the motor, as my batteries are dumping around 3 minutes into the race (3300mah with novak pro-charger) i think the motor is under too much stress as the gearing is standard and the motor is 13*2. can someone tell me hopw to get the motor closer to the flywheel, as the smaller pinion i have will not mesh, as its alot smaller than the original tamiya one. thanks, all help appreciated.
