  1. So many disties love to put stickers of things. MRC springs to mind as a perpetrator most worthy of the award for ******ing up future values of collectables. On one Tamiya I found 4 stickers from MRC: One big bright red MRC star, One small black sticker covering the word Tamiya (wonky) with the letters M.R.C., one "As see on television, the latest craze, RC sporting" (or some garbage to that effect, I have forgotten exactly - Toy's they're not is just about acceptable, RC as a sport? well even Twinset couldn't say that with a straight face ). Finally a little sticker saying the words "AA NICADS free of charge" Thanks for that M.R.C. :-) Also Americans do love to staple something together. I think it may be a requirement of citizenship to not be outside of a 3 foot radius of a fully charged stapler. For example, one trip to the states got me 4 staples in my passport. Paul.
  2. These are particularly funny/relevant to me UTILITY KNIFE: Used by incompetent customs agents and other assorted busy bodies who have nothing invested in the goods they are butchering in order to look inside your parcel so that they can charge you for the privilige and render what they say is worth $5000 into $2500 by slicing RIGHT THROUGH THE LID OF A MINT SAND SCORCHER BOX. I got a little carried away... Paul.
  3. Yeah, where else would you get useless advice from some muppet about replacing differential bearings! Paul.
  4. It is easy to remove the sticker and the ESC P.
  5. It is our fault. As customers all we do is want things cheaper. All they do is supply our wants. Cheap goods. Paul. In a slightly cynical and depressed mood....
  6. I had a set of alloy non Tamiya ones for my long gone Wild Dagger. They were beyond hopeless, the oil drained out. Frankly I would have been better off with the friction shocks! Paul.
  7. Rc Champ will have them next week, but note that the Japanese version of the kit has a T-shirt and they do not have the bag. Personally I think both are good, which is why I have ordered both. I can pretty much guarantee you that some guys will be selling the bag on eBay on its own, like the Buggy Champ T-shirt was for sale without the kit. Happy hunting! Paul.
  8. Incidently, the manual only has pages from 20 onwards, meaning this detail isn't there. Paul.
  9. I received a private email from Steve, so I decided to answer it here, so everyone could benefit from knowing that the Egress 3 piece bearings can't be replaced with the one piece like you can with the Avante. So sorry again :-( Paul.
  10. I feel really rotten about this. The one piece 1150s will not replace the particular set up in the Egress differentials. The Avante uses a 3 piece 1150 thrust bearing, two thrust washers either side of a 8 ball race. The 1150 one piece is a direct replacement for this item. However, on the Egress, one of the washers is replaced by a slightly different thrust bearing (they call is a pressure disk) which has an octagonal cut out to accept the disk hub. I feel really bad for delaying Steve's progress and not checking the manual thoroughly before suggesting the one piece replacement It should still work in an Avante, as the Avante uses all three parts of the thrust bearing. Paul.
  11. I use Rs, the winds are the same though, 23 turn single. I will have a look at upgrading the bearings, doesn't sound cheap, sounds sensible! P.
  12. That is a good idea. In fact I run a few Super Stock Rs and they run through a normal Tamiya TEU101 BK and I have never had a problem. Good Tamiya motor at a good price. @94eg, what type of bearings can you use to replace the bushings, I haven't thought of this! Keep well, Paul.
  13. Hi, I was about to say the same, but only because I have heard the same from the same source in a recent thread :-) They are cheap tat, by all accounts. I would try to find a second hand Dynatech, you should manage for around $50-$80 for a useable one. If this is too much and you fancy another car, buy either a Terra Conqueror, or Daytona Thunder, both of which stock come with the 01R motor (if buying a used one, check the motor is included) failing that... Not sure, have you looked at a Technigold? Also vintage, but purists will say it is slightly earlier, for the Hotshot etc. Or Technipower would be good. Avantes (the slightly older brother/sister of the Egress) was sold with a Technigold in certain markets. Paul.
  14. Personally, whilst I love for example for re issue Sand Scorcher, it isn't really a Sand Scorcher, is it? It shares few parts with the original and whilst it has the charm, it doesn't have the details. I will run them, buy a few for trades with good friends and enjoy it in a way perhaps I wouldn't run an original, but it won't be an original for me, or even close. I know for example that I recently (very recently) sold a new in box mint Sand Scorcher UK RIKO for £4500, to a buyer who wanted it, set the price and was delighted with his purchase in the knowledge that there was a re issue. Personally I think that re issues will continue to mostly be 'replicas' of the originals, albeit by the original manufacturer and if they have any sense, which over the years they have proved to, they won't destroy the customer base that has helped them get where they are. This is evidenced in the fact that both re issue SRBs have many new parts from the originals and are distinctively different and the fact that they don't re issue everything possible (perhaps for economic reasons too) I have taken the last year as an opportunity to buy some nice kits at knocked down prices, surely more people are being brought into the hobby by re issues and the chance to run a Sand Scorcher without worrying about the cost of a replacement part is a good thing for the hobby without damaging the originals value. I think the reason partly for low prices on eBay is current economic climate, panic/greed (too many of eBay) and the doubts about the re issue (what exactly will be included etc). Once it filters through to everybody that the re issues are quite different, there will still be a strong customer base for the originals, as I have seen in recent parts sales and kit sales of my own. eBay isn't really a perfect marker for what the market is doing. Ultimately many of those people that say they don't care that the new Sand Scorcher isn't like the old one were probably never going to commit to the purchase price of an original one in the first place, so perhaps their opinions and influence on the market is slight. The market is set by those who buy, therefore if you would never pay $3000 for an original Sand Scorcher, the fact that you have bought a re issue NIB instead of an original NIB means only one thing - that you don't influence that part of the market, not that those that do have been paying too much. To the nice chap who turned down a NIB Rough Rider on the principle of price, I would like to point out that just the front tyres are worth a hundred Euros to the right buyer (ironically most likely a re issue Buggy Champ owner!), I know as I have sold two pairs recently and despite the fact that I have more sets, I am holding onto them. Answering the question directly, I still bid nuclear on the right item, fortunately nobody knows what the right item for me is and I have most all of what I want already! Paul.

  16. Quite right without meaning to sound like a know it all though, you can tell the difference between a SWB Willy and LWB from the box alone without opening it. I sold a couple of Monster Beetles in the last year for $550 and $600, but they were in poor condition. I wouldn't let one of my good ones go for less than $1000, having said that I totally agree that e900 is a very high price, as evident by the fact that it didn't sell even close to that on eBay (the reserve wasn't met). There aren't a plethora of shrink wrapped beetles on the market, so I suspect this is why the high price. My advice is find a Beetle which is mint, open and cheaper with a red body. Paul.
  17. Middle column, half way down, 8th from the end of 58*** TC List of cars P.
  18. Uhu clear, it is for plastic and paper and dries clear I didn't mean you, about the investment, but some people have mentioned the word investment, as if by magic the Scorcher re issues will be worth $3000 in 10-20 years, but personally I don't see it. Wish 'em luck though P.
  19. Anyone who bought these for an 'investment' (whatever that is?) and wanted it to stay perfect NIB for say 10 years is going to be disappointed if the glue is already coming undone, as glue degrades over time. I have kits from 1979 which haven't unglued yet. The news isn't all bad though, as you can surely replace the rear cage, as it is in its own bag when shipped from Jason and UHU clear glue will seal that shut and it won't be visible ever, just use a clothes peg until it dries! Paul.
  20. I just decided, I will do a flower power Baja :-) I have 24 on order, so I can spare one.... P.
  21. You're from Holland? How about a hippy flower power Baja bug? A bit cliche, but I haven't seen one yet P.
  22. You lucky lucky (insert Monty Python phase here) Nice one, looks like yours got scheduled for checking and (bizarrely) checked out OK! P.
  23. Hi Badboy, Shame on you the Ford Ranger says SRB on the top of the mechanism box! But not on the actual packaging anywhere. Some people think it was a 3 speed after thought, I don't know myself what Tamiya were thinking when they released it though. Super Champ : SRB? Maybe... That's all I will say this time, still got the scars from the last fight! P.
