  1. Mark, let me be the first to congratulate you on your decision to build this car! All those radio sets are too new, from about 85 to about 90, definitely not the era you are looking for. I may have a suitable radio, PM me on what we can do with it. I suggest using the bag and box (suitable strengthened within) to display the model, but it is up to you! Keep a steady hand and inform us of progress! All the best, Paul.
  2. Thanks guys, I thought I wasn't the only one with the problem! I will try hot water, perhaps a hair dryer.... Kind regards, Paul.
  3. Loads of parts, gearboxes, front wishbones, wheels, tyres, Aerial etc. Go to the parts reference in the club, it has everything listed. Not body, not chassis though.
  4. I know I asked this two years ago and now, two (well one and a half) years on the roll bar is still in place. I am now down to my very last new built, so I don't want to go raiding NIBs to get the parts and I don't have the new part separately (nor have I seen a new one recently anywhere). The roll bar is still there, I tried to get it out, using pincers and with screwdrivers. Clearly it is snap on, not snap off :-) Any more suggestions will be gratefully received. Sometimes there are simple solutions.. Kind regards, Paul.
  5. ACPRC : I only saw one post suggesting false pictures and I had already addressed it. Why was the thread close to getting locked by the moderation team then? RichieRich : Please stop doing searches and then cutting and pasting the results into your posts. We all know where Google, Wikipedia and similar search engines are if we don't know something ourselves. Moderation is knowing when to hold back. Back to the topic then, hopefully without further interruptions: I think Hong Kong is a super member, I welcome him with open arms to the club. I don't mind if he is a model shop owner (although that is a slightly unfair advantage!) as this just shows that he loves his work too. I thought a while ago about starting a thread prompting the subject of hobby store owner collectors and whether it could be considered the same thing as collecting. But I thought about it and realised that these hobby shop owners who also collect are the best ambassadors for the hobby and in a perfect position to do what they do. I also love his showroom and something like that (although smaller) is something to which I aspire. I have plans already afoot to make a large room in the top of my house into a viewing/chilling room entirely filled with Tamiya. It is already filled with Tamiya, although, ahem, not quite so neatly as Hong Kong's! Any comments on this (not on the squabbling, please), as I am terribly jealous I don't have a thread devoted to me and this is the only way to vent my anger :-) All the best, Paul.
  6. Just go to Tamiyaclub.com, members, search, type zulu69, then look at model 58064. Kind regards, Paul.
  7. That is a great idea! Looks good. You can also use Celica wheels instead of the 959, which are white instead of the Porsche's yellow. If you are feeling flush, check out Rad22rad Alloys, who does beautiful machined alloys sprayed white, just like the Dakar original 7 spoke. Kind regards, Paul
  8. Two things, for the record: 1) **** is an insulting term, I suggest that as a moderator you edit/remove it from your post. It comes as a derogatory form of the word ******. 2) This post only got off topic when the moderators decided to get heavy handed. Paul
  9. Yes, I think you are right, I am sure any of the Techni series (power, gold, tuned) would work as they are all based on the same motor.
  10. Err, I am confused. Anyway, I understand the need to censor in the light of youngsters, after all, despite Tamiya's best efforts to state that 'Toy's their not' lets face facts for a moment :-) It is the question of unnecessary interference that annoys me. Soon enough, if you interfere enough, people will just stop talking and what a sorry mess that will be. I speak with a certain amount of authority here, speaking as I am from a former communist country, speaking the language for 13 years, living with people brought up and born under communism and the effects which are felt even now in 2008 after the accession to the European Union, breakdown of Communism in Russia and the Velvet revolution. Now I am off to kick the cap off a Pilsner (a real one) and contemplate OCDs previous post. Paulski
  11. This car has unique hubs, the only compatible hub is for the 959 (which is essentially the same car). The car is a 1/12th as such 20% smaller than a 1/10th, the wheels would look wrong even if you could get them to fit. These two cars were unique and both ran a Technigold motor, which is the correct motor. Good luck Paul.
  12. For my part, I have said nothing of which I am ashamed. I feel that the majority of us are full of admiration for those of us who collect Tamiya to such a degree. I have stated previously that I had not uploaded even a small percentage of my collection, as I was worried about retaliation and envy. However, this thread has continued and I feel it would be a shame if it were locked/closed because of a couple of poorly considered comments. At the very least, it is an opportunity for those who disagree to offer up alternative opinions. Only this way can we all learn from each other and tolerate each others' differences (rather like in real life). Censorship is a high handed and unnecessary way of pushing people into changing their opinions and in the long term, as in real life, has been proved ineffective. Please keep it open! Paul.
  13. I think the photos are just taken with a wide angle lens. Paul.
  14. I couldn't agree more, Tamiyaman, in fact one of the reasons I left uploading my collection was because of the green eyed monster. As for those who say we hog the Tamiyaclub.com front page, that is not our intention. After all, we are not selling our cars, or bumping ourselves up the trades list. We are simply trying to efficiently list our collection. Some of us want an online collection, so we can link to pages with pictures without having to send photos all the time. We pay our membership, same as all of you. For the record, I do mine when I can and try to make that weekday evenings, but I will do it on a Saturday if I have time. As for loading many at a time, what do you suggest, a limit? Should I only do one a day? With a few non Tamiya bits and boxed bodysets I would be doing one a day for over 2 years. Would that make you happy? This is supposed to be a place to enjoy the hobby and not criticise others for doing things differently. We are all entitled to an opinion, for what it is worth, but the green eyed monster seems to be playing more than its fair share in this argument. I would have responded sooner, but only just read the whole thread through. I was wondering why it had stopped at Tamiyaman's comment, now I know why. Shame (probably brought on by realising the truth in his post) has meant envy has replaced with pride. Let's keep all the 7 deadly sins out of these forums. One thing I know would be appreciated by all would be more detailed descriptions from any of us who have a large collection. I am trying to do this, but it is hard to remember where everything came from. Let's keep it nice, after all, we are not curing cancer here, just playing with toys. This is just the sort of thing that makes me want to make my collection private again. Paul. PS: Hats doffed to Tamiyaman, Hong Kong, bCollection and others for helping to preserve what we can at least all agree is an important part of our lives.
  15. Wouldn't it be lovely if there was a large shop somewhere in London, say, stacked from floor to ceiling with SRBs and Racing Master models.... Well, it is a thought. I suppose if I made a time machine... Paul. PS : Instead of eBay try right here, in the subscribers trades.
  16. I wouldn't recommend treating it as the base for a couple of reasons. One, perhaps you might achieve the desired result (stripping) from the new paint and base, meaning you will strip off the old paint accidently and make a mess of your new paint job, two, the detail could be lost. I don't recommend brake fluid either, although others swear by it, as it can weaken the plastic. I would recommend Mr Muscle Foam Oven Cleaner, which is the brand in the UK. Do a search on the forums for the US name if not from the UK, as this has been discussed before. Thanks and good luck, Paul.
  17. The eagerly anticipated Black S Parts arrived today, along with a little extra that Mark also agreed to (in fairness he actually offered, he didn't need his arm twisting). The little extra is the Black Porsche bag still wrapped in original cellophane, now making mine a 100% complete 100% NIB model again. My bag had perhaps been previously used in a display, making it slightly dusty and without plastic wrapper. At this moment, I don't think there is a happier Tamiyaclubber! Paul :-)
  18. There are quite a few, hit reference/tamiya models, then go to 58059, hit that, then go to member rides, then new builds. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...7362&id=195 This is the first I saw, which has some nice detail. Good luck, the paint job is a nightmare. Kind regards, Paul. PS : This one too, from my friend Kris http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...080&id=3680
  19. That Wild TXT Willy is too cool. Might have to commission you to make one of those for me ;-) Paul.
  20. Yes, there were two WWs, a long and short wheelbase one. I can never remember which came first, it is like the chicken and the egg, but I think it was short first, then long.
  21. Hello, They are tricky to restore, some parts can be expensive. Wheels are expensive, as is the mechanism box. As it happens I will be selling a Willy project soon, which is boxed and an excellent starting point, as it is a virtually complete model, almost new in condition, so requiring very little to get it running. Tyres are also expensive, as they are the same as the Blazing Blazer. Body parts are somewhat compatible with the Willy 2, but not the shell itself. Good luck, PM me if interested in the Willy I've got. Kind regards, Paul.
  22. Update :-) Firstly, thanks to all of you who are following this thread, which helps keep me going! Sometimes you can loose heart if you don't have support, so thanks again. Also, some of you have PMd me with more 'controversial' ideas, all of which have been useful. I have been speaking to Mark on the phone regularly, he is a class act. I am delighted to say that a deal has been reached and our trades are in the air in opposite directions as we speak. Suffice to say, I am delighted and I hope Mark is very happy with his trade. Right now, I am not going to give the exact details of the trade, as I don't think that is fair to him, he will make a post when he is ready, however, for now, suffice to say, he has not taken advantage and the figure of $1000 which I brought up as a random figure is not even close. In fact, Mark didn't even want any money, or indeed anything up front and was happy to send the parts to me for my approval! The main thing in his mind was to help make a NIB complete, which is great. In addition, we have agreed to swap the bags, as his is wrapped still in cellophane and mine is open and slightly imperfect. I will leave it to Mark to say what he is going to do, but it is surely going to excite other members of the club! There will be some revisions to the showrooms, that is for sure. I believe this is what they call in the trade a 'win win' situation! Kind regards, Paul.
  23. I do have, as a result of the claim, his full address and phone number, which I have tested and seems to work, although it appears to be answered by a Japanese speaking lady answering machine. Unfortunately I don't speak any Japanese. Either way, this is getting way out of hand and I am disappointed in myself that I let this happen and that I am considering tactics which are not great in order to resolve this. I know they say two wrongs don't make a right. I guess I should be considering that when my little boy Samuel's college fund is light by $1000 :-) All the best, Paul.
  24. I have been away for a while : So much to tell you all.... OK, I have spoken with Mark, very nice guy. I hope to call him today with a decision. Previously though, I accepted the $1000 back from the seller (through paypal) which went through OK, the only thing is, I had to remove his feedback, which I did (reluctantly, although the words still stay there) Recently he started a Paypal dispute of his own with me, which is just crazy. He is claiming the 'goods' have not been received. This is becoming farcical. I don't know what to do. There seem to be a number of options: In other words, I have neither a claim with paypal, the parts nor the $1000 any more! 1) Buy something else from him and slam his feedback, which is clearly what he worries about the most. 2) Use paypal to make the claim void (yeah right, that will work, like last time). 3) Send something (anything) to him and get a tracking number to put into the paypal website. As there is no eBay link, there would be no 'item not as described' issues. I am currently preferring option 3 and option 1 as well, as paypal are hopeless. Any ideas? Kind regards, Paul.
  25. You guys remember that episode when Joey watches Ross getting pecked on the cheek by Rachel? He says: "It's neever going to happen" Actually in the series it does happen, but they end up broken up, then divorced. Either way, it would be a mistake to do a reissue. A rough Rider vein Tamtech version of a Sand Scorchery Baja bug is not out of the question, but that isn't a reissue, now is it? The same way, the guy who owns a Lotus Elise with a Porsche body on isn't actually driving a Porsche, but a kit car. Anyway, if it does happen, I'm screwed (just look at my showroom, if you don't know why!) All the best, Paul.
