  1. My new Sand Scorcher (this is 25 years ago) eat the middle gear.

Had to buy 4 sets of gears, 2 bumpers, 4 ujoints, 2 bodies, 4 tires, and to remove the totally broken radio box in 2 years. And I did not really drive very much back then.

And thats a lot of money for a 12 year old kid.

1990 I bought a 959 Porsche. And on the first run both lower front arm broke. The front gear box broke later, rear arms aso. This was the time I was really upset about Tamiya. This car was the lousiest quality I ever had and remember the price!!!!

Recently I bought a Blitzer Beetle. I found plastics very nice and thought this would be now the standard of Kyosho or Associated.

Nope, the arms do not brake, but the chassis.

And I am a good driver, I think, no crash only a very extreme rough track.

Maybe thats another reason collecting Tamiya cars is so popular today. Very few survived in a perfect condition if they were driven. Compared to RC10 or Scorpions or similar cars, they could be raced and are still driveable.

  2. The next thing is, Tamiya made never a really good plastic. Every other companies made better and longer lasting cars than Tamiya.

If you build a 25 year old Marui and drive it, everything is fine. Never do this with a plastic Tamiya car.

My opinion is, that Tamiya is not a really RC car builder.

They wanted to make more money than only with the static kits. But the quality was never as good as the competitors.

  3. Are they painted out or inside???

And I think the original window material is harder and fits better than the rerelease windows.

I will have a look at the inside of the bodies, if the modell name is different, as this is the case at the 935 and Ferrari 312T3 bodies.

  4. But keep in mind, taht these socalled rereleases are not exact duplicates. There is one difference between them, the rear lights.

Original 58005 and 08 do have red rear lights, the rerelease does have only white ones!!!!

And the rerelease is only correct on the CS 58008 Countach, the 58005 had a white body.

  5. Easy answer, all Diplos, which were new or almost new and on their rims are now cracked and a piece of junk.

All Diplos still in their NIBoxes are nice and ok.

I only have 2 cars equipped with Diplos in my showroom, all others do have the normal A-sponge tires on.

And I do have 2 new sets, which never will be on Ebay or elsewhere.

If the Diplos are heavily used, they are sometimes in a better shape than socalled new built ones.

So everyone, who wants perfect CS cars will keep them (and thats a big lot of cars).

  6. I have the same space problem.

I began to collect all vintage chain driven 1/8 gas buggies.

Then I wanted some nice rear driven ones too.

After that, this weird Tamiya collect virus hit me.

But now I am pretty cured by my collection of hard bodied on-road cars and buggies till No. 35 or so.

Recently I sold or traded all my Lexan cars and newer gas buggies.

  7. I did not knew that in GB the fuel is 40% above our in Germany and Austria.

I know that in Europe there are some countries a little higher and some a little lower according to us, but not that amount!!!!

I have bought a 125ccm scooter 3 years ago, to avoid the traffic, the tickets and the high fuel costs. this was my way to avoid these things. I will take the car only in winter and if I have to use it.

But I think, that this what is now with the speeding tickets for only 4mph to fast and the high fuel price is only the beginning.

In 10 years driving a car will be the same luxury as having a car after WW2. Only the real rich people will own and drive one.

  8. You all should not complaint about your police behavior!!!

I think here in Austria will have the best thing in the world soon.

We now have to pay our freeway toll (fees) with a socalled Vignette once a year.

In Germany and in Austria trucks were billed by boxes which count every mile or kilometer driven freeway with checkpionts or satelite.

The goverment wants to widen this system to the private cars.

So not only your driven miles Kilometers were known, they know how often you drive, to which place and the best THE AVERAGE SPEED.

Because they know the time between the checkpionts.

    Thats then Orwells Big Brother!!!!!!

You french, spanish, german, aso should not complaint about your situation.

    And for you overseas driver!!!!

What would you say if you have to pay 4,60 uSD for a gallon like we have to do!!!!!!

Would you buy then all these SUVs and Vans with the big engines, when a trip of 300km or around 200 miles will cost you 45,- uSD???

  9. I would take the original Losi shocks, for the original look.

The Losi shocks do have a 4mm hole in which a grommet fits and a 2,5mm screw.

The Losi shocks look like the real thing if fitted with a black spring. I would not like the color alloy on an SRB.

If you really wants some I may would sell my third set.

  10. The MiniT shocks are very good, only missing a reservoir rubber cap.

But this can not made with such small shocks.

The holes are 2mm for mounting, but you can push the ball out and take the 3mm screws. So the should fit, I think also with the length it should fit better than all other shocks.

  11. There was a docu of the Da Vinci code some time ago on the German TV.

They managed to destroy every fact he writes in his book. So it is only fiction.

But does anyone read about the Maya and their Long Count Calendar???

Thats much more interesting and truth!!! This is really terrific.

They knew about all 9 Planets!!! although uranus and Pluto were found last Century.

And their LCC ends in 2011!!!

  12. Tamiya did not copy the real paint shemes and names for the RR, SS and Blazer.

They would have to pay the Sorry German Lizensen, for these RC cars too. And Tamiya would avoid this by using fantasy names.

Except the Super Champ (older topic) Al Ernat was a shop keeper in the States who sold Tamiya.

But nobody can deny that this is the Rough Rider. All stickers are on the correct place if you have a look at the blue painted body.

    http://desertdust.homestead.com/43_Malcolm_Smith_p3.html

So the cars are exact copies, maybe some paintjobs too, but never the names.

  13. The first rc-car I ever saw was my Countach 58005 way back in 1979 at the age of 11!!!!

    My mom and I was in a hobby-shop to buy a rc-car.

The man behind the shelf showed us the Countach 58005 and the Celica Turbo 58009. After checking the prices of the additional stuff (Acoms MK1 radio, Acoms 6V battery, Acoms charger) my mom decided to go with the cheaper Countach.

It was sprayed in orange by my dad.

It looked exactly like the one in my showroom.

After some days driving with the additional gear for extrem low speed, and driving for some time with the big gear I collect my complete money and bought a BLACK MABUCHI.

1980 or 81 I got a Sand Scorcher and some schoolfriends which had the same car for racing.

  14. Do you got one???

    Maybe I will sell mine.

    But it is heavily modified.

Only the arms are Losi parts and the gear box.

Graphit chassis, any other part alloy and 300 motor.

    85 servo usw.

Maybe I will sell the brushless too.

With this it will go 80km/h with 3 cell lipo.

    Bye

    MArtin

  15. I think, with little amount of work, you can put every new motor in the 959 chassis.

If you drill a second hole on the other side to put both screws in the motor and in the rear you have to wrap tape or put o-rings around the endbell to match the white ring.

I had a 16x2 in my Porsche. I think you can go down to 15 but not more. The drivetrain will suffer.

With such a motor the car must have the differential installed from th Celica.

  16. Tamiya never went into the 2-wheel desaster in the 80ies like Kyosho.

If so, these would be the holy grale now.

Kyosho does not fetch so high prices than Tamiya, but the Gokart (cart) and the Yamaha YZ-250 both gas powered are the ones to collect.

Tamiya would have made a bike as realistic as the 3-speed and that would have been amazing.

  17. If someone fears to use the wrong toothpaste or someting else, take Tamiya compound.

Comes in 3 stages, abrasive, fine and finish.

So for every stage of scratches the right polish.

Works also great on paints, which are not really shiny anymore.

A liitle rubbing and voila, almost mirror like.

  18. Hi,

I had amazing results with 100% pure Glyzerine.

It is very nice to your skin too [;)]

Put some in your hands and work to liquid into the sponge tires, you will be amazed how soft they become over night.

Rubber tires will become black again.

And glyzerine will not dry out the tires as AmorAll and will not destroy them like Vaseline.

I think thats the cheapest and best way to make your shelf queen stay longer on the shelf.

    Bye
