  1. Tobys, I have a dozen Frogs and three Blackfoots, some sit on the shelf and others I drive. If your Frog came RTR with an ESC, then I say run it. You can pick up a set of New aftermarket rear tires on Ebay for next to nothing. One seller is selling the really cool Red or Yellow Troll Tires for $1 a pair. The Frog is my favorite vintage car because it is very versatile and there are a ton of aftermarket hop-up parts availible for it on Ebay. I have been building modfied Frogs for a year now and I still have an entire box of NIP part that I havent even got to yet. You can buy a rear bumper made by parma and the metal antennas on Ebay no problem. My point is, parts for the Frog arer just as easy to find as any Brand new car made today. Please take a look at one of my Frog below, I still have a few goodies to add to it but it looks vey good, it may never see the street, but I love to look at it, if interested I can post pics of my other frog too, or check out my showroom, some are in there. Tom
  2. I would buy a couple of pairs.
  3. I just bought a pair on ebay, near mint condition, with some other items for only $20. Dont quit looking, they are out there.
  4. I will do my best to make a video, but that will make it that much harder as it will require a 3rd person to hold the camera. I have a hard enough time getting someone to hold the radar gun. Spring is approaching so it wont be long now, I just have two things to accomplish, getting 8 cells in the car and finding a venue with a long flat smooth surface. It will be done!!!
  5. Yep, you guys are right, thats all it needs, I will get one hooked up this weekend.
  6. OK, just so you guys know, my main super speed project at this time is still the GH. But I just want to show off this vintage dragster I got on Ebay for only $30US. This will be my next SS project. If anyone knows what kind of car this is, please let me know as I have no idea. Also, I will need some suggestions on how to rig the steering, as it is incomplete. The servo will be laying on its side if that helps. This car with the body ia almost two feet long but is as light as a feather. Its in really good condition too. Its should be a snap to make this thing do 50MPH. I have a NIP Reedy KR 8 turn identical to the one in the GH ready to be put in it. Thanks.
  7. You know, I had an RC10L that I owned for over a year in mint condition, but I never used it because it was so low to the ground that I did not want to scratch up mint the carbon-fiber chassis by running it on the street so I sold it on Ebay a few months ago. DAMM!!! But did just win on Ebay a Vintage Dragster (maker unknown at this time) as soon as I get it I will post a pic in this thread. I know that the Tamiya cars will never go that fast but we should still see who can get one of their cars to go the fastest.
  8. Lets have a Tamiya Super Speed Contest!!!
  9. OH BTW, when this experiment is over, I have a new one. SUPER SPEED FROG!!! I have a belt driven tranny just begging to be installed as well as an entire box of hop-ups(I have 12 Frogs). Look out for that one!!!
  10. BKM72, thanks for the support. The idea of a video is great but would be hard to do being I am a one man show out here in NY. I would be lucky enough to get someone to hold the Radar gun. Maybe a couple of you guys would not mind flying down here and helping me out this spring. LOL
  11. I do not think the slightly larger tires will cause a problem with the motor overheating. I did buy a finned heatsink for the motor but realize now that it wont fit. I can switch to a smaller pinion using a crp motor adapter if you think that will help. The only way to know for sure is to get her on the road for a test drive(I am still waiting for all the snow to melt).
  12. Thanks for the input guys, I will keep looking for a set of tires(hopefully foams) which will be better suited to the task at hand. Someone in the forum suggested the bigger tires, and it sounded like a good idea...
  13. I have now added the folllowing hop-ups to the GH: Aluminum Front upper shock mount CRP yellow upgrights Orange Race Prep rear hubs Aftermarket street tires on used but good Gray SandRover rims The tires are quite larger in diameter and should help top speed without burning up the motor. I am working on getting the same tires on yellow rims which will look eeven better on this car. I am still looking for the following if anyone can help: Front anti-sway bar Lightweight rear axle Lowering kit Thanks
  14. I agree with what you guys are saying, I am interested in the Gyro but really want to try to drive it myself first so I can improve my driving skills. I am working on getting a lowering kit for the car as well, hopefully that will help the handling somewhat. If I keep adding all of these improvements, I may never actually get to drive it because it will always be in "The Shop". This reminds me of the days when I had my (real) 69 Ford Mustang and I was constantly dumping money into it.
  15. Well, spring will soon be here and I will start early to organize some kind of meet in Brooklyn N.Y. somewhere. I am talking offroad or on. I can provide four skateboard/Bicycle ramps and all the mini-cones needed to create a nice track anywhere. What is needed is people and a good suggestion as to where to do this. Come on New Yorkers, why are only the guys in the U.K. having all the fun?
  16. Martin, I would buy it from you if you really think it would help and the price is right, I still really have no idea what it is. Thanks.
  17. DJTheo, where can I get those battery packs? Acorn, what is a heading hold Gyro? Thanks Guys.
  18. I am going to replace with deans battery connector. AS for the cells, I plan to place two behind the servo as mentioned, I am not sure if I am going to go to 10 cells as that may be a bit much and trash the motor, but who knows? I also kinda followed SonicCJ5's advice, I did not add monster tires, but I did put on a brand new set of aftermarket street tires whicj I mounted on a set of nice Gray Sandrover rims I had lying around. Looks really great. The rear tires are a fair amount larger than the foams I had on and should add to the top speed, if they do not, I will try some Blackfoot Tires and wheels I have. Also, I am awaiting the Aluminum front shock tower, once I install that, I will post more pics, at least the car looks awesome.
  19. Just scored an aluminum front upper shock mount setup, look for new pics soon.
  20. I am into offroad, I am focusing on Frog's(10), Blackfoot's(2), Grasshoppers(4), and Pumpkin/Lunchbox's(3). Reason is parts are interchangeable and plentiful as well as a ton of mods. I do have some others but will probably be selling as I cam trying to keep my garage down. Anyone interested in a very nice boxed RTR Sonic Fighter? Also, I have a Tamiya Falcon and a Bandai Madwolf on Ebay right now.
  21. Sonic, interesting idea, I havent thought of that,I am going to look into my tire bin (which is huge), for something I can use.
  22. The handling was for $#!t with the 8 cell in that position, but the car was fast as badword. I am still trying to figure out a way to shoehorn one in. Thats a great car you got, offroad is the best! I still no not own a working 4WD offroader, unless you count my Playtron Lynx which is stuck on the shelf.
  23. Thanks alot, its been alot of fun doing it, the car has seen some transformation over time and there is more to come. I am also thinking about pulling the front steering blocks off of one of the clones so that I can have adjustable camber on the GH. The weather is starting to warm up here somewhat so it wont be long before I can get in another speed run. I have a Sonic Fighter which is the same as the Striker, and by looking at the car, I dont think it can hold up to even half the speed that you mentioned, but hey, like you said, thats what the hobby is all about. I chose the Grasshopper for a few different reasons, thats its very light, easy to get parts for, and its bulletproof drivetrain. Keep in touch.
  24. I just installed a set of blue aluminum nerf bars I got MIP on Ebay for almost nothing. I also fixed the anti-sway bar installation. I swapped bodies, this time using a vintage Parma body, should add more downforce. Funny thing is, recently, I picked up two Grasshopper clones on Ebay, a Varicom Cyclone and a Mugen manx, they are both identical to the GH and already have ALL the expensive aluminum hop-ups that I have been adding(except the rear bumper), and they came that way stock. They both even have an ajustable camber the GH does not. Boy, di I do all this work for nothing. If anyone wants to see pics of those cars, let me know and I will post them, for now, here a more pics of the Beast. I cant wait until spring!!!
  25. Thats right, buying a car that can go that fast "out of the box" is too easy and no fun!!!
