  1. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think tamiyaclub.com wants to host photos, so only allows linking from other sites. That means you have to have your picture somewhere else online and just hyperlink to that destination. I haven't found any way to upload photos here. It'd be a nice feature, but it's extraordinarily expensive. Since this site is hosted in the UK (right?), the cost of bandwidth is much greater than in the US, I'm sure. My 2 pence worth...
  2. I gotta revisit this thread... I found that my father-in-law's Toyota Hi-Lux, that uses an ESC has a considerable delay when going into reverse. This is particularly annoying when hitting a wall or something. I'm not that familiar with ESC, but is this a standard characteristic, or is it a cheapo? Jim
  3. Not a biggie, but if they're available, it'd be nice to have if someone's got 'em. Jim
  4. How much difference do low-end v. top-end radios and servos make in the performance of a car? Jim
  5. I was looking at Tamiya's new tractor-trailer rigs. These are incredible! I can't believe the price, though - nearly $500 for the Tractor, and about the same for the trailer! Bit high, but awesome looking. Anyone here have one? Jim
  6. Sunnuvagun! Whatta ya know... I have a bit of this in my model railroad kit... [] They say you can even make small windows by working this stuff in holes. Interesting. Jim
  7. The stickers on my Fox are in pretty bad shape, but for the most part, intact. They just don't stick anymore. Is there anything I can apply to get the stickers to 'hug' the body again? I tried solvaset, but that's more for water-based decals than plastic stickers. Thought about a gloss-coat, but that's a bit drastic. Is there anything that could work to reset my stickers? Thanks, Jim
  8. quote:Originally posted by SjoerdHi Jim, I have the wheelhub parts you need, never used. I have quite a few Fox chassis parts, so if there is anything else you need - just ask. Please let me know if you still need those parts. [] id="quote">id="quote">I sent an email - did you get it? Jim
  9. Maybe my allowance was too high, but I think I had more disposable income at 14 than at 32. [}]
  10. Looks like an awesome process. I'd sure love to do that - if nothing else, repro my whole car. LOL! Jim
  11. I've been a member of a dozen forums and trolled around a dozen more. But I really appreciate TamiyaClub. I recently got my Fox out of Storage and started to clean it from top to bottom. The internet has been an incredible resource. Of course we all know the potential of the internet, but the potential realized is another matter. Through this site, I've been able to find parts I've busted, download a manual that will help me tear the car apart and put it back together the right way. I even found elsewhere on the net a manual for my battery charger! Incredible. It's like I'm 14 again, playing with my toy for the first time. Except, now it's a "Vintage Collectable" and I better play with it careful.
  12. http://www.hobbyengineering.com/SectionBM.html has an advert for alumilite. I don't know if this will do what they want, and if you're in Europe I don't know if they ship, but perhaps you can do a google on "Alumilite".
  13. I have a 15 minutes charger and discharger. I don't have the brand or tech info on it, but it has a 15 minute timer dial and a charge/discharge switch. There's also an ammeter with 0 at center. Of course, this came out before the advent of NiMH or Lithium batteries. Can this charger be used on newer batteries? Should it be avoided at all costs? FYI, I have a Fox and Toyota Hi-Lux, both with stock 540 motors. I want to get 3000+ mAh batteries. Is this too much? Could this much continual use overheat the motor or resistors? The Fox has a standard speed control, but the Hi-Lux has a blown ESC and will probably be replaced with same. Any info would be great. Thanks. Jim
  14. More specifically, I'm interested in just one D4 part (axle - wheel adapter). Preferably from the US, but I'll take one from anywhere in the world if the price is right (around US$5 or up to £5 from abroad). Thanks in advance! Jim
  15. quote:Originally posted by OnetenthHello again. The ESC = Electronic Speed Controller. It is more enery efficient than a MSC (Mechanical Speed Controller) as supplied in the stock kit. With an ESC, you could have longer run time and less trouble with wiring since the 4 AA batteries or ceramic resistors are no longer required. To me, the Fox is a very beautiful buggy. I have restored one (and got another one in progress) and put in full radio gear, but never feel right to run it. So it just stays on the shelf since then...LOL... Gary id="quote">id="quote">Thanks for all your help, Gary. OK - I should have known what ESC was. I am also in posession of a Toyota Hi-Lux in mint shape. It has an ESC. Wondered why that ****** had only one servo. I'll probably stick with the basic set up with resistors on my Fox. Do you think that a newer motor and battery with 3x the capacity would fry the resistor? If so, maybe I'll just stick to the 1200 mAh battery. I don't suspect that the battery would over power it per se, but rather the longer run time might keep the resistors too hot for too long... I just don't know. Back to the ESC. On my Hi-Lux, the battery was left in while stored for 6+ years. This has apparently fried my ESC. Is this common? I know I'm veering off topic here, but I'm curious... It'd been so long since I've tinkered with my Fox that I was shell-shocked to find it among the "Vintage" and "Collectables". Guess that's what happens after sleeping 20 years. LOL. Jim
