    I don't know if this works as I haven't tried it yet, but I have a plan in mind for when I need to leave negative feedback. Wait until the very last day that you are able to post it, until there's a few minutes/ seconds left. By the time they see it they won't be able to respond - kinda like 'feedback sniping' [:D]

    Not sure if it works but I may try it out soon as I'm in dispute over an unreceived item.

  3. Hi Jim, they are off Ebay from Walawala. I bought loads (well over 100) in different sizes and they were about £35 shipped. You should use rubber sealed bearings on off-roaders as they are more resistant to dirt, dust and water, which can cause them to fail (overheating, cracking, pitting etc).

    Hi,

    Ebay do take action (normally after 2 emails!) I got this response to the NIB scorcher scam the other week

    "Hello,

    Thank you for writing with your concern.

    I have reviewed the listings you have brought to our attention and taken appropriate action.

    I would also like to explain eBay's policy with respect to reports like

    yours.

    eBay is not in a position to make judgements about the authenticity or

    authorised nature of listings, except in the most extreme circumstances. This may mean that we cannot remove the item about which you contacted

    us, particularly when it is not blatantly clear from the item itself

    that it is in some way infringing.

    We often cannot remove items upon the representations of third parties

    whose credentials we cannot verify, unless of course the alleged

    infringement is obvious on its face. That is why we strongly urge you

    to notify the seller of the suspected infringement.

    If you wish to report a stolen item, click here:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/stolen.html

    Please let me know if there is anything further I can do.

    Regards,

    Pauline Brennan

    eBay VeRO Team"

    So the trick is make it absolutely clear to them that its a scam, so they won't have to do much leg work themselves and you should get a result.

    Cheers

    Dave

    What that basically means is

    "We don't want to employ a load of people to look into possible fraud because it will eat into our already fat profits, and as long as noones scamming us we're not that bothered."

    I reported someone for using my photos last week, giving the item number of the previous auction, so it was clear that the pics had been stolen. They actually state that it's against Ebay policy to copy listings/ pictures and there's a form to report it.

    Did Ebay do anything? Did they ****.

  5. I recently restored my Boomerang, I got my bearings from Walawala as they are about the cheapest on Ebay. It should cost you less than a tenner.

    I can't remember exactly how many you need, I will check when I get home, but I think it's twelve 1150 size (one on each axle, four on the prop shaft and two on the spur gears in each gearbox) and four 850. You may also want to buy the Ball Thrust Bearing set and replace the plastic bushings on the prop shaft, I forgot to do this while I was rebuilding mine and now I will have to crack open the 'boxes again to replace them....

    quote:Well, not 100%: some of the plastics are made in Malaysia, aren´t they?

    id="quote">id="quote">

    75%+ of the range is now made in the Phillipines. Started with the prebuilt stuff, but virtually all 58300 onwards kits say Phillipines on the boxes and most of the new production plastic kits has a sticker over the "made in Japan" bit.

    Probably getting too expensive to produce in Japan?

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Yep, it's the way all manufacturing in developed countries is going, they simply can't compete with the low labour and setup costs of places like China, the Philipines and so on. Britain did have a couple of car manufacturers left, TVR (which was recently sold to a Russian millionaire) and Noble (which recently moved production to South Africa).

    Places like Britain and Japan are just too expensive, from setting up the factory (just look at house prices!), paying the workforce, importing the raw materials, shipping out the finished product and paying tax on any profit.

    Anyway, I'm sure there are more like that, but I like the Tamiya-way of making slogans much better:

    "Way out running!"

    "Being nuts is neat!"

    "Hopping mad"

    "Awesome"

    Just a couple of rear-wing slogans [:P]

    id="quote">id="quote">

    I *love* the slogans, they really give the cars character.

    My favourites:

    "Anytime Baby!"

    "No Guts, No Glory!"

    "Being nuts is neat!"

    "Away!"

    The most puzzling:

    "Go'en for broke!" [?]

    I just noticed he answered someones question by stating he provide the photos on 'Hard Disc'. I wonder what size hard disc he's shipping them out on, if it's a 250GB it could be worth a bid, delete the photos and install the HD!

    [;)]

    Perhaps I should email this query to him?

    id="quote">id="quote">

    [:D] I thought that when I read it!

    I asked him why anyone would buy the pics when they could just right click and save them themselves....his reply:

    quote:You will note that the main add only has one pic on it. I was putting others on when I got a bid. hence I put another add on to show all the pics and also sell them if anyone wants them. feel free to bid on the cars and the pics

    In terms of rarity in kit form id say the the original Lancia rally is the hardest to get out of the 58 kits. Ive seen 4 black porsches but only 2 lancias. The blazing blazer is not that rare its just than no one wants to sell theirs [:)] I know three people who sell many kits but the blazer they wont part with.

    id="quote">id="quote">

    I think this is a good point, are they rare because noone wants to sell them or rare because Tamiya didn't make many of them? I'd imagine there are a lot of Bruisers still NIB (it was a good seller) but people are hanging onto them, whereas something like the Avante though (which was expensive and not very popular when it was released) may genuinely be low in number and hence that's why you don't see many for sale (just 2 random examples).

  10. I think it's inevitable that the NIB kits from the 80's will continue to go up in price, mainly due to the fact that the numbers will diminish as people build them. New builts will perhaps go the same way as people run them and the supply of new spare parts run out for people wanting to restore/ build complete cars.

    I'm not so sure how collectable the current kits will be, most kits Tamiya make these days seem to be touring cars - shared chassis with different bodies. IMHO it will be the bodies that will go up in value (especially popular cars like the Skylines, M3's etc) as without this the car is pointless, and people will always want to hunt down their favourites.

    Baja Kings and the like will have their place but I can't see them ever being as desirable as the old Tamiya buggies., I would rate them at the same level as the Sonic Fighter/ Striker in collectability.

    I have seen some NIB Gold rims up for sale in an ebay shop for around $79.99 i think US ;)

    I'm sure Walawala had a few sets in varying condition/ price, all NIB last time I looked at their store.

  12. Yes if you're planning to buy stuff in $ in future it can be a good move to 'stock up' as it were, however, most reports I've seen (I work for an investment bank and we get a lot of internal reports from the analysts) suggest that the $ is going to get weaker before it gets stronger. There's no real evidence that it will return anytime soon as the causes are fundamental (huge current account deficit), rather than the usual peaks and toughs of currency movement.

    Some interesting reading here http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticl...ssionid=4BFULTW whatRKICRBAEKSFFA?type=businessNews&storyID=631008§ion=finance

    (looks like you may need to copy & paste the link)

    I would wait and see what happens before doing anything, you could end up getting less for your money, hard to believe though it is!
