    I've just seen an auction for a NIB Madcap on Ebay and the seller is using photos I took when I was selling mine.

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Maybe he bought yours from you.

    id="quote">id="quote">

    It's definately a different dude. I sent him a mail and he refused to remove the photos. Don't know whether to bother chasing it up with Ebay TBH.

  2. I've just seen an auction for a NIB Madcap on Ebay and the seller is using photos I took when I was selling mine. What's worrying is the seller has private feedback and has changed his user ID several times, looks very dodgy to me. Do you think I should inform Ebay, it's a bit annoying that someone has nicked my photos, as he is clearly passing off my former Madcap as his own item?

    XP is a bootable CD. Just pop in CD and it will ask if you want to format etc. Change boot drive to boot from CD first in bios.

    Windows 98 used to let you change mobos and just install new mobo devices. But Windows was wise to using a licence on more than one machine, so when its on, a new mobo appears like a new machine, so they want you to prove it by reinstalling and registering it AGAIN!

    Dont suppose you had seperate partitions on the drive... and had all your important stuff on the second partition. You could do a rebuild and not touch the second partition.

    Alternatively do you have another PC you can pop the HDD to take stuff off??

    id="quote">id="quote">

    As Tipsy says, you can boot XP straight from the CD. All you need to do is go into the BIOS when you switch the PC on and select CD as the first boot disc. Put the XP disc in and reboot, it should load the installer from the CD, then you can reinstall onto the drive. The reason it isn't booting is almost certainly because you have a new mobo/ chip etc - Windows has to be reinstalled if you change the base hardware like that.

    Reinstalling Windows won't wipe any data on there, it will just overwrite the Windows install already on there, but you will probably need to reinstall your programs.

    Ideally you should do a clean install, and delete the Windows folder before you install the new one, but this is a bit more tricky.

    Ok guys,

    I've calmed down a bit, and both of you have a point. Its a little bit frustrating to have that last bid chucked in over the top right at the end though. Yes, you may not have bid the highest amount you can but you don't have an opportunity to review that position with only seconds to go.

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Which is exactly the point, the later you leave it before putting the bid in, the less time anyone else has to counter it - you have more chance of winning and getting the item cheaper. That sealed Frog auction was a prime example of how this could have helped - if one of the 2 bidders had simply left the auction until the last few seconds they probably would have saved a few hundred dollars. It also means you don't have to sit there watching the auction, you just stick in the item number and amount you want to bid and it takes care of itself.

    IMHO there is absolutely zero point to putting a bid in right at the start, all you're doing is indicating to other interested parties that they have some competition. If the auction has 5 days to run then why not wait until the end to see what happens rather than throwing all your cards on the table right at the start? Look at some completed auctions and count how many of the first bidders actually win, it's a very, very small amount.

  5. I agree with Chris. The problem is 99% of people always ask for offers.

    There's only 2 reasons that I can see for doing this:

    1) They're hoping that someone out there really wants what they're selling and will make a stupid offer for it.

    2) They genuinely have no idea how much it's worth.

    I suspect that most of the time it's option 1). If you know how much you want for it then just say, that way you can't be offended when someone makes an offer you don't like. If noone buys it the price is too high, simple as that - an item is only worth the price it can be sold for!

    I posted a couple of WANT ads when I had first started buying Tamiya stuff, and had a few people asking me to make offers. I didn't really know what to offer, so I used Ebay as a rough guide. Some people were obviously offended as they didn't even bother to reply, I expected at least for them to say "No thanks" or counter offer - ie "that's a bit less than I wanted for it, how about £xxx".

    Whatever happened to good old bartering?[B)]

    (Edit: Just wanted to add that I have had some great deals with TC members as well!)

    Going back to the original post, the guy obviously (rightly or wrongly!) thought a built car was worth more for some reason.[?]

    I just wondered if I am the only one who has been eagerly awaiting Gran Turismo 4 since...well forever now. I have had it on back order for over 18 months!!

    They keep putting it's release date back. The last I knew it was the 1st December (sensibly in time for Xmas), but learn today that it has now been put off until 1st February!!!

    So Sony...does the game even exist? lol

    It's funny how they have had the time to produce 2 sub standard games (concept and prologue) but not to perfect the proper one......

    I will be bitterly dissapointed if it is anything less than absolute perfection, although the classic cars in the screenshots do bode well:)

    I for one am fed up of endless versions of Imprezzas/Skylines etc that have been modified by obscure Japanese tuning firms.....I mean who are Spoon anyway? Perhaps other types of cutlery will be putting their names to cars in the new game. The Mitsubishi EvoxxxIIIIIvvvvvvv tuned by butter knife.

    Lets have at least a few token interesting cars like in GT2, Cobra coupe, Charger, Mustang etc

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Who are Spoon? Spoon are a well-known and respected racing team who also make tuning parts for Honda cars.

    http://www.spoon.jp/

    Not exactly obscure, and certainly better at what they do than most of the Max Power reading halfwits who 'tune' (read: stick ridiculous body kits on) cars in the UK. [:)] Could you imagine a UK version of Gran Turismo? You'd get to race 1 litre Saxos around a Macdonalds car park and buy tuning parts from Halfords....

    There will be a lot more cars in the game, waaaay more than in GT3, I know this for a fact because Evo did an article where they took their Caterham R400 to be photographed and recorded for the game - so I think you will be in luck. Although the cars you mentioned are more suited to drag races, American motor manufacturers have never really got the hang of going round corners (catamongstthepigeons) [:D]. I guess the reason it's taking so long to make could be because they want to do a good job.

    I think we are all brainwashed by this beautyful website. I agree to what Martin71RS said above: Regarding a successfull marketing strategy we are a VERY SMALL target market compared to the kids buying modern R/C equipment. Maybe we think that it would be a good business for Tamiya to aim at the collectors market, but I have a feeling that they already checked this with their marketing and financial experts and came to the conclusion that it's NOT.

    Maybe I'm wrong and will be disabused in december [8)]. Ready to place my order [:D]

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Completely agree, Tamiya have to be careful re-releasing old models, if they release too many they will be seen as a company that is living in the past and has run out of ideas. Not a good move when they are trying hard to be seen as making serious professional R/C racing cars. Despite what you may think, lots of the older models - even the most popular ones - will have a very limited market. Most of the people buying Tamiya's products now will be teenagers, many who weren't around when the original models first came out, and I bet you a penny to a pound they would rather buy the latest TRF carbon chassis over a Sand Scorcher.

    I'd like to see Tamiya do limited releases of selected models every so often.

    Tamiya could quite easily re-release all their old kits to make some easy money. Theres no development work to be done - all the hard work has been done already. But, I think it is very doubtful that they would re-release certain kits which were actually quite badly designed. That is why they constantly develop their designs and bring out new models. Old designs are old for a reason. When BMW re-released the MINI, they didn't keep the original design - they developed a completely new car. I think Tamiya would have to do the same kind of thing with their older kits. If these kits were re-released they would have to be hybrid versions that looked similar but had new components and chassis designs. The value of the old kits in my opinion will remain constant (the Hornet maybe being an exception??!!).

    id="quote">id="quote">

    I totally agree with you. I personally don't see a re-release of a old car with that design. It might look like a Hornet, but it'll have some changes done.

    Just look at the Wild Willy for example. Tamiya re-released the Willy and I see the original 1st version Willy still selling for $500-800 on e-bay.[?]

    id="quote">id="quote">

    That's because it's a WW2, not a re-released WW1 [:)] look at the XR311 and the Dyna Storm as examples, the original versions are worth virtually the same as the re-releases. In fact the re-released Dyna Storm is supposed to be a better kit than the original.

    Haha, yes I was watching the one you bought as well, but when I noticed he didn't take paypal, I figured I should go for the other one. The spares included with the one you've bought look to be mainly for the Astute [xx(] - but I did see that there was a ball-bearing kit that fits the egress&astute diffs.

    And yes - I'm going to build it for Christmas! [:)][:)][:)]

    .. all my cars must run [;)]

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Yes I noticed that as well! [xx(] I have an Astute so I'm not too bothered (it was a good price even without the spares), and a lot of the parts are interchangable, such as the ball diffs. He said he was going to look for some more parts and throw them in if he found them.

    I think I will probably build mine eventually, when I am really bored one day! [:D]

    Now, how to explain to my girl that she only gets a pair of socks for christmas? [;)]

    id="quote">id="quote">

    Well done, I bought one too! [:D] I've been following that one all week and was going to bid but I saw another one pop up with a BIN of $750 and had quite a few spares with it, so I hit the button! Only downside is the shipping from USA and the seller doesn't accept Paypal so I gotta send the cash [V][:o)]

    Edit: Are you going to build it? [?][:)]
