  1. Looking to upgrade from TT-01 to something better. Is an HPI Sprint 2 any good? ie better than a TT-01. thanks
  2. Also bear in mind that an 8T motor is mental and will set most speed controllers alight. Need a top end ESC to take it.
  3. I got a BMW M3 (TT-01) for about £80 -you can get them on ebay for £50. Not inc radio (another £40 minimum). With a 15 turn motor it's dead fast (£20 ebay) and a better ESC (£20 ebay). I have spent hundreds on hop ups from Hong Kong, but I think you could get a very fast car in the TT-01 for £150. It's an amazing 4WD chassis - the best lower-end Tamiya yet in terms of building, working on and modifying. If you can, stretch to a £200 budget and put the ball bearings and aluminium prop shaft in too, cos the plastic bits are pretty awful.
  4. Hope someone can help. Thanks a million in advance if so. I've got a TT01, and have hopped it up a fair bit, got a new ESC, 15T motor etc and it's really fast. However, the performance is waning recently, and it seems to be losing its edge a tiny bit the more i use it, and I know people maintain motors but have no idea how. I have never touched this one after I put it in. What I think i mean relates to changing "brushes"? How is this done? Probably easy if you know how... Thanks in advance again Jules
  5. So, for top end racing, what make of kit would be best at about the £150-£200 mark? Excluding radio gear etc. I don't want to need to hop up the new kit much, and it must be very fast! Also - any online contacts and shops selling kits would be much appreciated. Thanks again for the help I've had so far in my quest J
  6. I want to beef up my Pumpkin and pop a more powerful motor in (than the standard 540 silver can). Any hints? Don't want to screw it up or pop the standard speed controller. What's the kind of maximum I should look at putting in? 23 turn?
  7. Wondered what the (unbiased) consensus on the best Touring Car make? Is Tamiya really the entry level, with Losi and Associated etc what everyone moves up to after 6 months with Tamiya? I love my TT-01. It's absolute class. I suppose I just want to know whether the hop ups, special motors etc are worth it, or whether I need a whole new set up to REALLY compete. Thanks in advance for any responses.
  8. Thanks guys, very informative. Jules
  9. Are there any clubs in the bristol (UK) area where people meet to race/mess around with vintage tamiya kits (lunchbox / pumpkin / wild willy / brat) etc?
  10. What would happen if i used a fast motor (15 turn) in my TT01 kit with a standard Electronic Speed Controller? Would a manual SC make a difference?
  11. What exactly is a stock motor? Is it for beginners? Is it slow or fast?
  12. Sorry for the potentially incorrect language. I have a TT-01 car and I want to know what is the fastest combination of teeth to go on the pinion on the end of the little motor shaft, as well as the ideal motor (in terms of turns). I.e. a 21 teeth pinion thing with a 15 turn motor... Hope someone can help. I have loads of different pinions from ebay and several motors.
