it's the gold bits you solder the wires to, not silver

Hi. Looking for an event on Sunday 28 May in the Bristol / Swindon area. I have a TC3 and I am ready to race, but haven't done so for a year or so. Would be nice to have a go at a less serious race. Any ideas?

What's the best 27T motor that I can use in official stock races in the UK?
-
ESCs
in Stellamodels

Hi. How much for an ESC with Deans Connectors fitted? Deans connectors must be fitted, but i don't mind paying extra for this.
I live in the UK
Thanks

south west england - bristol.

yeah all the right way round. all heat shrunk. female on battery. just hooked it up and it looks ok but the ESC (no limit) got quite warm after about 10 seconds. Is this normal?
-
good work. I built a Gravel Hound at Xmas (check out my garage). Found it a bit heavy to be honest.
-
Right...finally getting there. Can I just check one thing with you mor experienced chaps so i don't start another fire!?
Red wires = +ve
Black wires = -ve
Red wire from ESC goes to the +ve part of the (male) deans connector. Black wire from ESC goes to -ve...
Wiring up batteries - red wire goes to +ve part of (female) deans connector. Black to -ve.
Is this right?
Anything else you think I could do wrong?
Many many thanks for everyone who has helped me so far. Happy Bank Holidays to those of you in the UK

right i'm having one more go...then i'm going to buy some ready made on ebay if it doesn't work. I melted my tamiya plugs with a 7 turn motor and want a set up that won't melt anything...but i also don't want to melt my hands or set my flat on fire...
what do you all use? do you do it yourselves? I guess you are all a million times better with a solering iron and generally know what you're doing...
-
yeah i think i had the wires the wrong way round on the battery. the soldering is ok but i didn't know to keep the wired pos to pos etc. which way round does it go? red = neg, black = pos etc? thanks guys. my finger/thumb are a bit better this morning!!

what is heatshrinking? no...

yep - all caught fire now! the battery literally set fire as soon as i hooked it up. i'm not a brilliant solderer but its all soldered in the right place...
-
I have soldered on deans connectors to my battery and ESc and let them cool down. however the moment i hook them up it all heats up (the wires and ESC) really quickly. any idea what i have done wrong?
-
brilliant advice lads, thanks so much and for the links too. I think i'll direct solder the (new) ESC to the motor and go for deans for the battery
-
the motor/ESC connectors are the same as the Tamiya/ESC battery connectors, only without the plastic casing. They are thin metal and hook in to each other. about a quid a set. i soldered them on. all the wires are thick.
The ESC was a ripmax no limit...apparently.
-
i have soldered these ones on to the motor and the ESC (before it melted) - from my local RC shop. just thin metal male and female parts. these not the best sort?
-
Mr Pushrod,
thanks mate. that's really helpful. can i just solder these on after slicing the tamiya ones off? J
-
i'm also using a 7turn motor for the first time. so obviously that's adding to the "burning" problem. Thing is, I want to go fast, that's why I thought a no limit ESC would cope...
-
i have actually melted the tips of my fingers as well trying to yank the battery from the speed controller!
-
just normal tamiya ones on a TC3 with a new no limit ESC and new battery...
-
Folks - what's the best no limit ESC out there? I want one that, come what may, won't ever ever melt or melt the battery connector. I'd spend up to £80 i reckon, and would consider second hand through ebay. Currently running with a 7 turn motor in my TC3 hence the need for no limits...
many thanks in advance. happy Sunday

Hi - just an update on my Christmas project - to really hop up the Gravel Hound DF02 and lay down an 8 turn motor with all the works.
So far all has gone well. I can usually smell something burning, but everything still goes (fast)!
The kit was a joy to build, and easy (as it is similar/identical in places to the TT-01 I built last year).
My only complaint is that the finished article is too heavy. I was racing against an old Schumacher Cat 3000 (the hound won by the way) in the snow, and it was just so much lighter...
Pictures to follow - i painted it pink. Not as gay as it sounds. Looks cool. Jules
