  1. I use a dishwasher in my restoration workshop. Its perfect for removing unwanted chrome. Just give it a quick rub over with some rough glass paper to break into the surface of the the chrome and use cheap dishwasher powder (as it scours) and It will come out black (which is the base coat of the chrome) and with a little keying it will respray perfectly. Dont tell your wife about the dishwasher though

  7. Hi guys Thanks for the replies and your helpful input. I have made a few mods on your advice. Ball races etc and changed the ESC. I 'am getting about 10 mins now but I 'am still not enjoying it as much as running a modern one. My mate (LAMMAC) came round for a twiddle last night and he had the same feelings about it. It has lots of shelf appeal but no run character We ran it against my cc01 and frankly in all departments of fun it ran rings round it. I think Its going to get traded for a modern 3 speed. I am going to try softer tyres as at the moment due to lack of traction and over stiff springs its defeated by a leaf
  8. "Although it is way better to be stoned off your mind." Cannot be ars*d to build anything then. Probably safer for your NIBs
  9. Nowt wrong with that I hear your into buildings Falcons when merry
  10. Hey Paul Nice to see you around again. OK you got me, I'am intrigued.....Why Ethanol ? Mark
  11. Hi All I have just bought a Bruiser with the intention of running it. Please see below Click here I had high expectations of this as it is my first true 3 speed. I want it to be a scale runner with good torque and steering. I have fitted a 2.4 GHz system, modern servo's and an Esc. I am still only getting 2-3 mins of run time from it before the batteries are toast and frankly the performance is a bit weedy ! Granted I am only using 2400mAh Ni-Mh's and I know it weighs the same as mainland Europe but surely I should get at least 10mins in low gear with tons of torque. Nothing is getting very hot so no problems there. I am still using the old jumbo 750 motor and the gears, diffs and steering are running free, smooth and not binding. I also have no stalled servo's. I love Xc's because they are fantastic runners on the scale trail and expected a similar performance from the Bruiser. My question is do any of you guys run these often and do you have a preferred setup that works for you. Would I be better with a 55t conventional lathe/crawler motor ? I do not want to go brushless. I know the original cells where 4000mAh so would Li-Po's or double parallel hi capacity Ni Mh's do the trick ? If this is just how they are, am I better to sell it and get a Hilux Hi-lift instead ? as I bought it to run and although its a wonderful piece of machinery to look at, I am not interested at just staring at it in a glass case. The Hi-lift is a fraction of the price, looks the same on the outside and is great fun off road. Can the old 3 speed perform the same ? Thanks Mark (sgt.barnes)

  13. I have to agree with Zakspeed too. I run virtually all my models on vintage gear and have to say it runs rings round the modern cheap rubbish Thats available today. The material & build quality is far better. If you have a basic grounding in microelectronics they are dead easy to service and repair too. The only thing modern I use is batteries and a Tamiya ESC as the duration, efficiency and control is far better than the old saft cells and MSC's. All the Northwestnutters RC vids show me using the stuff on all my models as I am sure the legendary 101 lads do too on there fantastic vids. Just remember to check for dry solder joint and the dreaded black electrolysis rot on the negative line before use. Servo's that wont centre and buzz a lot just have worn potentiometers.
  14. In a word yes. Thats why people (philistines) break these cars up to sell them as they are worth more in bits. After years of experience restoring and building, I found building new from parts is the most expensive way of all. Although it does mean you can collect the parts slowly paying a little bit at a time over a long time a bit like finance where you pay for the car a bit at a time but it costs a lot more in the long run My thunder dragon and wild one where done like that. It cost me far more than a nib.
  15. That's because I bought nearly all of them And a loads of the thorpe and crp upgrades Falcon mods 101 Click here
  16. I have paid scorcher money for some of the Nikko I collect. The value is set by three factors really. Desirability to the individual nutty collector (including me), who your bidding against at the time & where its for sale (Ebay, Forum or a flea market etc) I got into a bidding war on a sand bully and ended up paying £120 for it. We both really wanted it. But the next man along may just chuck it in the bin or car boot it for a quid ! I have also picked up SRB's in good nick for £20 at car boot sales. Even a LP5000 for £40 ! I'am not interested in turning a profit and non of my collection is ever up for sale if I can help it. And any real collector/restorer knows only too well there is never any real profit to be made in the long run. You actually lose a pile of cash on a restoration if its done properly. You do it for the love and enjoyment of it. There may be a small profit in original NIB if they are kept for long periods and bought cheap but not much. I dearly wish all these models where worthless in cash value so my collection and enjoyment would grow even more and all the models that are beyond my pocket would be accessible too. I think genuine collectors would still spend as much time and cash restoring them even if they where of no value. At the moment I think its a case of the demand increasing due to the generation of people from the 80' and early 90's who grew up with these toys are now at the point in there life where they are starting to collect.
