  1. GregM-are you suggesting moving the gearbox and everything to a dt01 chassis?
  2. I like the break away idea, I really like alternative bodies that are more durable (any others?), I see a third shock in crispy's gearbox (how did you mount this to the gear box itself?), I have never considered using Dt01 mounts to attach the gearbox to the hornet chassis. That's very interesting. GregM-does that work well? Do you guys think the duratrax shocks are a mistake? Are they too strong? The hornet dampers were so soft the top chassis was hitting my sport tuned motor. Thanks and interesting thread. At the end of this I'd like my hornet to drive better.
  3. I have the aluminum front shock tower with oil filled shocks. I also put on the junfac rear axle mount: http://www.junfac.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=418&zenid=80cd02a35499e8be451efbd3ad8a2a9e Instead of running the stock shocks which seemed way too soft I put on the duratrax evader shocks with soft springs. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?I=LXAMK1&P=8 The rear end just bounces and bounces. Should I try heavier oil in the stock shocks? I'm also considering the grasshopper axle mounts to cut down on the bounce. I might try the third shock thing but haven't seen a simple way. I'm running a sport tuned and wonder if that's too much power? It will wheelie if I accelerate too quickly.
  4. Blech. Bought a re re hornet and love it. But...the buggy spends as much time flipping over as it does upright. That's fine but the spoiler broke off. I really like the look of it so are there any ideas other than learning to drive a buggy that hops or getting a new body?
  5. Found them. http://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-53702-spring-df02-p-9964.html?cPath=595_744_712 Thanks!
  6. OK...this is what I had so this is what I did in the back: Team Assoc. 50 wt shock oil in the back (650 cst), one hole piston, max preload for ride height, and innermost shock mount for ride height. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMZ16&P=ML In the front I also used one hole pistons, innermost mount, and max preload with the kit tamiya soft damper oil. (~400 cst according to Speedy. If he says it is then that's what it is.) Still using the kit springs. Is there a nice set somewhere fro the front ~70 mm and the back ~90 mm that you'd recommend. I'd rather not turn this $140 USD buggy into a $300 one...but between the drive shaft, bearings, motor mount, GT Tuned, new wheels, new tires it's adding up! Why don't I listen to you guys and just get a better car out of the box? I think the answer is I like upgrading as much as anything else.
  7. Thanks. I'm going to try to drive it a bit with the silver can and stock dampers before I add the gt tuned and alloy dampers. That way I think I'll better appreciate the upgrades. I've added bearings throughout and am waiting on the "right" aluminum drive shaft to show up. Did you guys find 3rd party alloy dampers or the tamiya kit? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamiya-RC-DF-02-Aluminum-Damper-Set-53701-/130991239245?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e7fafb04d
  8. I'm guessing one hole piston and 40-50 weight oil based on what I've read....
  9. useful. tamiya #54026 does not work in the df02 with any of the cups. just doesn't fit. I've ordered the shaft from tower that Speedy suggested. I'll keep you posted.
  10. Ok great. That is NOT what i have. I have tamiya part number 54026 and the ends are rounded. It is slightly longer than the one in your pic. How do I upload photos? http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=54026
  11. Thanks speedy. I bought a genuine tamiya tt01 shaft and it was just a bit too long. The tower hobbies shaft is listed at 6.5 inches long and what I have is 6 5/8 inches. It is just a bit too long so i will give that one a go. Sound reasonable?
  12. doesn't fit in any combination with any of the cups. it's either a tad too long or a tad too short. i can assemble it with the kit stuff no problemo. too bad.
  13. OK...Beat me to it. I'll go back to the kit joint cups but the shaft is a tad longer than the kit one. We'll see. Thanks speedy.
  14. Do I use the aluminum cups that came with it or stick with the kit ones???
  15. Hi all, Just ordered one of these for my DF02, rising storm: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BHK9YS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Is this what I wanted? The reason I ask is that the shaft seems slightly longer than the one that came with the kit. The cups are a little shorter but it doesn't seem to fit. I think I messed up, no? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance....
  16. Do you guys glue the tires on? Last question...I promise...
  17. Do I need the heatsink at all?
  18. Thanks. I'll look for a low profile heatsink and try to find bigger wheels. What is the aluminum tape for that goes on the inside of the shell?
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tamiya-Avante-2011-4-Bonus-Wheel-Set-The-Mk-II-Avante-DF-03-type-yellow-Rim-/221141702217?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item337d129649 Having trouble finding df03 wheels. These ok? Any links would be appreciated!
  20. Great. Thanks guys. Just checking. It seemed to be the best motor that the stock ESC can handle...just got my Rising Storm. Gotta get going on the build...
  21. Hi all, Interested in running this 25T motor in my DF02, rising storm with the stock teu104bk. Issues? Thanks in advance.
  22. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGZX1&P=ML This should more than do it. Good Luck!
  23. Awesome advice. As usual. Are the kit dog bones fine?
  24. Hi all, Just picked one of these up and haven't started the build yet. Will pick up the alloy motor mount and TT-01 heat sink. I'll keep the Tamiya ESC for now and I'm undecided if I'll run the silver can, sport tuned, or GT Tuned with it. Any essential upgrades for this? I'd also like some pics of yours if you have them to get ideas for the color scheme. All the best!
  25. I used to really like my Dirt Thrasher...
