  1. I live in Brisbane, but I hope to be making the opposite move soon (within the next 12 months). It would be really good to meet up with someone else for a bash or a beer.
  2. I know that the Wide Stud Spike Tires (part No. 53059 or OP-59) are still available from Tamiya and that these will fit the rears of the Boomerang as these are what I used to replace the oval block tyres on my Fox. There may be more types available that will fit from Tamiya but I can't think of any off hand.
  3. I wipe down as much as I can with a rag and then I scrub the parts with a toothbrush and liquid hand soap or dishwashing detergent - rinse and repeat until they are clean. I wouldn't use solvents on plastic parts as they may eat into the part and deform it or degrade the plastic making it brittle.
  4. The re-releases of the Thunder Shot and Top Force have already been discontinued according to the Tamiya USA site. Another thing you might want to consider is that the distributors for some countries do not necessarilly import all of the models that are released (I don't think that the Australian distributor had any Hornets) and that the price will be different in some countries. All things considered whether you wait till after your move or not, most things are available via eBay or online shops and will continue to be available for some time (but you will still have to pay for shipping).
  5. The letter designations used with bearings refer to the materials used. These are some of the ones that a bearing shop gave me. Z - Steel R - Nitrile Rubber (Acrylonitrile butadiene rubber) D - Carboxylated Nitrile Rubber P - Polyacrylate Nitrile Rubber S - Silicone Rubber V - Fluoro Rubber T - Teflon (Polytetrafluoroethylene) L - Leather F - Felt Different manufacturers and suppliers use different cominations of letters to designate if they are refering to to the seals or balls. Usually if only one or two letters are used they refer to the seals.
  6. You probably need to change your character encoding in your browser as the site is entirely in Japanese. Go to the View menu, then Character Encoding and choose one of the Japanese ones (if you are using IE7 it is under Page, then Encoding). You may need to try a couple until you get one that works.
  7. For me it would have to be the Hornet. It is a combination of many things, the looks of the car, the box art, the fact that they were everywhere (in Australia) and the adds in the toy/hobby shops and on TV. There are other cars that come to mind such as the Frog (it comes second or third) but they don't hold in the memory like the Hornet. For these reasons and more the Hornet is the car that says "Tamiya" to me. The Hornet isn't my favourite Tamiya (the Fox is as it was my first) but when it was re-released I had to by one as I always wanted one as a kid.
  8. I can only answer a couple of your questions. 1. The Futaba R122JE receiver will fit on the TTG Frog but I had to move the speed controler (TEU-102BK) forwards and the battery connector now only just fits through the acess hole. 2. The antenna holder is not adjustable. 6. The rest of the decal sheet appears to be printed on clear. Hope that this helps.
  9. I only got to spend about 45 minutes at Tamiya HQ while killing time on my way back to Tokyo earlier this year but I "did" get to see everything. I would have liked to have spent longer and probably could have spent a couple of hours in the archive room looking at all of the statics as well as the RC's. The front loby has some of the 1:1 cars that the models are based off, another room has current models on display and there is a small shop. For a good idea of what is on diplay dig up ukclaire's showroom. The directions on the English version of the Tamiya website (http://www.tamiya.com/english/news/event/visit/visit.htm) are pretty foolproof but if catching the bus and the driver doesn't understand "Mitsubishi-Iriguchi"(Entrance of Mitsubishi Plant) ask for "Keirinjo"(Cycle-race Track).
  10. I hate masking small areas so I brushed my grill and arches first. I then masked off the roof and sprayed the body and then did the roof. I managed to smuggle some jars of PC paints into Australia form Japan and used my PC-12 silver that was left over from my Fox build 20 years ago (it is still good!).
  11. Just glad that I could help you out with completing your collection.
  12. I could provide you with directions and maps to some of the shops in Akihabira in Tokyo and possibly Tamiya HQ. When I was visiting relatives earlier in the year I wrote out the direcetions to Super RC, Champ, Futaba Sangyo and Rakusei. If you would like a copy shoot me an email.
  13. There is a show called 4WDTV on the community TV stations in Australia that shows quite a bit of rock crawling (as well as all other aspects of 4WD driving). The show credits even have a TXT-1 in them.
  14. Ball bearings will be neaded as the Top Force only comes with bronze bushes in the kit.
  15. My other half got me one on her way through Tokyo the other day as a surprise. Champ are doing them as a pack with the hop-ups. Mine came with a second battery (55090), Tam Tech-Gear Sport Tuned Motor (OG-14 / 40514), 2.6x29mm Aluminium Turnbuckle Shaft (Pink, 6pcs) (OG-8 / 40508) and GB-01 Wheel Bolt & Collar Set (Pink) (OG-7 / 40507). I haven't installed the hop-ups yet but I can confirm that while it isn't fast it is fun. I think that the other hop-ups such as the shocks, nerf bars etc will be out sometime later in the year (possibly June/July).
  16. I think the Champ website says that they will have it today (Mar 30). The price on the website is 11800 yen.[]
  17. You will need 10x 1150 and 2x 850 sized bearings (i think).
  18. Rakusei, one of the big Japanese model shops is starting pre-orders the 29th of March at a cost of 10,800 yen (RRP is 18,690 yen with tax). http://www.rakuseimodel.co.jp/index_top.php
  19. These are some of the shops that I will be visiting in a few weeks. Futaba Sangyo http://www.f-sangyo.co.jp/about.html Super Rajicon http://www.super-rc.co.jp/1.html Champ International http://www.rc-champ.co.jp/Champ_Internatio...ional_index.htm (but you already know about this one). This site also has a map and directions to a few shops although it is heli related http://www.jason.net/heli/tokyo.htm Cheers Brad.
