Grahoo does some great builds and gets cars to do things that they were never meant to. You can see his show room here. He also did another mini rally page here that has some good close up photos of the mods that he has used. As for mini sized tyres I have heard that the Tam-tech gear buggy champ rears will fit.

I am pretty sure that the receivers are coded in a similar manner (I am not going to check as they are all stored). You could then check to see if the receiver matches the transmitter (I now it is a pain in the Supershot) and if it does use 27MHz crystals. If it was Mario's Supershot that was very tidy and even had a Technigold I think.

The AP-227 should be 27MHz. The 29MHz were called AP-229. Well at least the Acoms Techniplus AP-229 Mk III that I got with my original Fox in 1986 was 29MHz. Cheers, Brad

How Much Has Tamiyaclub Influenced Your Collecting?
bjr250 replied to Hibernaculum's topic in Vintage Tamiya Discussion
C. for me. When I joined I was looking for parts and help to get my Fox back up and running again. I didn't have much interest outside of some of the off road vehicles from around the mid 80's such as Fox Boomerang and Hornet. Now I have models that range from early 80's to very recent and even have some on road ones that I would never have considered if it wasn't for TC. -
As Mark said it sounds like you have some great cars and it would be great to see them. The picnic grounds (and therefore the track) at BEC are open from either 7:00 or 7:30 (I can't remember which) until sunset. There are no fences and anyone can use the facilities at any time as the venue is owned by the State Government. Management for the centre do have a no fuel powered vehicles rule and this means no nitro or petrol powered cars and they do come around and check every now and then. It would be great if you could come out to the Saturday meets but if you can't post up when you do plan to go out and you just might find you have some like minded company. Cheers, Brad.

I picked my t-shirt version Sand Scorcher 2010 kit up from the post office on the way home from work.

Had a great day yesterday. It was good seeing some more variety in the cars that were out (even if they weren't Tamiyas). Having more than the one original Hotshot out at the same time was great fun (even if mine only made 2 laps before the steering broke). There may be a few cars that didn't make it into the group shot. Non-Tamiya display cars. I don't know if I will make the next meet but I will try to get out even if it is just for a little while.

I went with the 6mm hex that Tamiya recommend, Keen Hawk wheels and C compound tyres: OP. 569 (53569) Clamp Type Aluminum Wheel Hub - 6mm OP. 880 (53880) Large Dish Wheels (4WD/Front, 62/25) OP. 881 (53881) Large Dish Wheels (Rear, 62/35) OP. 878 (53878) High Density Spike Tyres C (4WD/Front, 62/25) OP. 879 (53879) High Density Spike Tyres C (Rear, 62/35)

What Are These Off?
bjr250 replied to ap6318's topic in Monster Trucks, 4x4, Wheelie Rigs and Crawlers
I have been thinking about this since you showed them to me the other day. I don't think that they are Tamiya. They are probably made by someone like AJ's, well at least they made a lot of tyres with Goodyear on the sidewalls. -
There is now a small write up on the Tamiya Japan site in Japanese. The English version now has a link to the blog as well.

Charging batteries now. I will be taking a couple of cars to work with me and I planted the seed to get off early. Hopefully I can get out at about 11.

In the Madcap Manual it shows setting up the CVA's as an option. Front - CVA Mini set (Sp. 332) with V6 end V7 piston (3 hole) and 400 oil Rear - CVA Short set (Sp. 305) with X6 end and X2 piston (2 hole) and 400 oil

The Fox had a unique chassis design and shared very few parts with any other cars. The 'A' and 'D' parts trees were specific to the Fox as was the gear set and not shared with other models. As for the stickers I am still on the lookout for a good set of reproductions myself.

Without looking at the manual to see if they are built correctly the built ones in my parts box are. Front - 70mm Rear - 90mm

Great to see some progress on the Hotshots. I hope to see at least one of them going around at Boondal soon.
-
Correct! This shortened and combined use of English words is common in Japanese.

I'm disappointed that I couldn't make it out yesterday due to work. I hope that everyone had a good time and I hope that I can make it out in a couple of weeks. Ian, the guys from RC Tech have been going out to Boondall for a fair while and are very welcoming of new faces, a good day is always had by all and it is the cars that are the focus of the day. Notice is usually posted at RC Tech as well as here so I hope that you can make it out soon.

Don't worry Badboy in my time zone your post directly above Tamichael's was made Jan 1 2010, 12:20 AM. So here at least you did get the first post of 2010.

I agree with the car polish advice. I did the same thing with my Blazing Star. It is time consuming especially getting it all out of the little ridges behind the resistor hole in this shell. Alternatively as the Blazing Star shares the shell and many hobby shops in Australia still have spares (they are still selling the kit), you may be able to source a replacement.

I had a great day. My other half got a few pics.

They are probably Lumberjacks though... He's a lumberjack and he's O.K.

I can't remember off the top of my head everything that it had and I don't have one but it is definitely a DF-01 (ie Manta Ray chassis). The kit came with bearings, Dynatech motor and I think ball diffs. The shocks are black C.V.A.'s The wheels are the same as the Top Force Evo. As for what came out first it was the Manta Ray (October '90) then the Top Force (November '91), Top Force Evo (June '92), Terra Conqueror (December '92), Dirt Thrasher (September '95) and then the Blazing Star (December '97). Edit: For some reason Mark's post wasn't showing up when I posted and I had forgotten about the body being the same as the Blazing Star. The kit numbers are Manta 58087, Top Force 58100, TF Evo 58107, TC 58105, DT 58160 and BS 58204. Brad.

I have just finished fixing the re-release Hotshot in preparation. So I should have a few cars ready including the trusty Blazing Star. I can't wait to actually get a full day out again.

A lot of the radio gear from back in the day did not have BEC circuitry in the receivers so that the radio gear could be powered directly from the main battery. As the Fox did not have room for an additional 4xAA batteries the switch was usually a Tamiya BEC switch that was specific to the makers of different radio gear (as they used different plugs) and allowed for the main battery to be used for everything. Many modern receivers and electronic speed controls have BEC incorporated into them so this is rarely an issue and the main battery can be used. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you are trying to use old servos and receivers with newer ESCs the plugs/connectors may be different and not compatible. For batteries and charger cheep and cheerful can be good but be aware that sometimes you get what you pay for. You will not need the most expensive gear just make sure that the charger is compatible with the batteries (ie. NiCad, NIMH, LiPo etc.) and as already said peak detection will ensure that your batteries are looked after well.

I use the white Keen Hawk wheels to run my re-re runner and the kit wheels for the shelf, but then again it is unmodified and box-art so that is the look I was going for. My original Hot Shot (again box-art and unmodified) has the kit wheels and tyres all the time as it is run very seldom.
