Tamiya have changed their motor supplier for the kits a couple of times over the years. There is not really anything between the two suppliers that the average user will notice.
They have used Mabuchi motors for the last few years but they may have just changed over again as my FAV re-release has a Johnson motor in it.

Just to clarify in Japan the Sand Scorcher is called the Wagon Off-roader.

Tamiya Fox. I got it for my birthday in 86. I still have it and it still gets run.
I also got a static motorbike kit for that same birthday but the Fox was built first. Before that I had had some static kits but they were from other brands.

The 53086 Rear Star Dish Wheels are only a small amount smaller than a standard 2.2 inch wheel and 2.2 inch buggy rear tires can fit well.
I am using 2.2 inch Proline tires (Calibers and Hole Shots) on the wheels on both my Super Astute and Dyna Storm. They do need to be glued well though.
I also am running Losi 2.0 inch step pins on a pair of rear Star Dish rims that I put on the rear of my Frog or Hornet for running. They stretch over very well.
9805537 is the same as 53084 Square Spike Rear Tire - which have been listed as discontinued at Tamiya USA as well. These tires definitely fit the wheels as this is the combination that came in the Super Astute kit.
The re-release Holiday Buggy has 53059 Wide Stud Spike Tires included on its yellow Star Dish Wheels. These are a 2.0 inch tire and have been stretched over the wheel.

If the MSC only has stop and flat out then the resistor is burnt out.
Replace the resistor and you will get the three steps back again.
With that said if it was me I would replace the MSC with an ESC a lot less fiddling around.

I saw it on Yahoo! Japan auctions a few months ago (it is hard to forget that paint scheme). I did consider it then but I got a Dyna Storm instead.
Not today but I got a FAV and two Holiday Buggy re-releases earlier in the week.

The actual kit is exactly the same for the re-release.
The early Japan kits had a t-shirt included. The kits for other markets had the blue reusable shopping type bag that was kit box sized.
Japanese kits do not include an ESC.

DF-02 uni's (70mm) if you are using 3rd party uni's make sure that they are 70mm some companies had DF-03 unis that were too short.
As for shocks I am running the Tamiya DF-03 ones. 3 Racing has the set but others will fit.
I now have Square hardened out-drives as mine have chewed out. They also replace the plastic bit that the rear diff rings sit on. 3 racing also make some and are only half the price of the Square ones. The front and rear assemblies are different but some people have used another set of front out-drives in the rear to remove the plastic pieces.
Be careful with pinions as well - they are .5 mod not the more common .6 mod found in Tamiya kits.

I had a seller that wanted to charge exorbitant postage once. He used the excuse that he had to go to the post office and fill in a form to send registered and this warranted another $20 over the cost of standard post (actual cost $2.50). I contacted him pointing out the cost disparity and ebay's policy on postage piracy but he wouldn't budge. I coughed up the money and in the mean time he must have read the policy as he sent it via overnight courier which cost him more than what I paid for post.

Quite a few of the guys in Brisbane have the first one but branded as Eurgle.
We bought them from one of the guys that runs vintage at Boondal.
No one has had major problems with the transmitter (the display can be hard to read in full sun) but some of us have had the receivers cark it. With the price of the receivers it is still good value even if you have to replace one every now and then.

It seems that he still has the items in question and has admitted this.
This is FRAUD.
If you funded Paypal with your credit card you can complete a charge back via the credit card company (if it is within the time limits for the credit card - usually 60 days).
The credit card company will then refund you directly and then try to get the money out of Paypal. You might have to provide evidence that you have not received the goods/service that the payment was for, so keep all correspondence with the seller and make notes of any phone conversations with dates and times.
If this doesn't work I would go down the line of contacting the police and seeing what can be done.

So if i get the hot shot cups thats half the battle, but could i still use the DF-02 prop shaft? or would i definatley need the hot shot shaft?
Theres a sprue on ebay for the rising storm, shaft parts set. Includes prop, inner and outer drive shaft cups and both gearbox cups. Would I be better getting this? although the prop looks like its plastic.
In reference to MADRACER's post you need re-release Hotshot prop shaft and cups to go between the front and rear gearboxes. The cups come in a bag with all of the out-drives. On the Hotshot these are all metal.
The DF-02 parts that MADRACER was referring to are the hop-up universal shafts to upgrade the axle parts between the gearboxes and the wheels (you still use the Boomerang out-drives).
I don't know if other DF-02 parts will fit other than the axles.

If you are paying 15,700 JPY then you are paying too much.

The Dyna Storm re-release was considered a limited re-release by Tamiya apparently, hence the number 49 instead of 58 in the front
As for the release, I also wonder when it was. The decal set has a 2001 copyright, so it was in or after 2001, that's for sure. I thought it was re-released in 2004 or 2005
?According to the Tamiya Website for the re-release it came out in October 2001 (2001 10 ).

I have one of the cheep Eurgle radios Link
I have not had many issues and those that I have had can be put down to user error. The newer version seems to be the same as the Hobby King radio linked to earlier (also Turnegy and a few other brands) Link
Most of the guys driving at Boondall regularly are using these radios as you can not argue with the cost. We have been getting them from a Tamiya Club member who is importing them into Australia along with a lot of other gear.
While the quality is not as good as the major manufacturers we have had few problems with these radios and I can recommend them for general use.

The Tamiya Star Dish wheels are slightly smaller than modern 2.2 inch buggy wheels. The difference is small (between 1 & 2mm) and can probably be put down to Tamiya working in metric. Keep in mind that the Star Dish front 2WD wheels are narrower than modern wheels as well. Astral Dish wheels as found on the Desert Gator and Rising Fighter share the same dimensions as Star dish on the rear but have more modern wider front 2WD wheel. I can't tell you where the dish wheels for the Sand Viper fit but they are more than likely the same as the Astral Dish wheels.
On my Super Astute I am running Star Dish wheels and Proline Caliber 2.2inch tyres on the rear and Panther ribs on the front. These do need to be glued to make them work as the tyres are slightly too big for the rims but they do work well. With this in mind the Dual Block tyres should work on the Rear with glue as they are a 2.2 inch tyre and so should buggy tyres from any of the manufactures including J Concepts.
